$12/person for about an hour lecture type setting. It appeared to be printed off photos and pasted information below the photos on index cards. The house was previously owned by people who had helped runaway slaves, and the furniture inside are all fictional (i.e., placed in there and not authentic).Challenging to discern the factual information vs. opinion and speculation.Questions were met with Ill let you know the important information and no answers.Stood the entire lecture and no sitting available. Not recommended; recommend the National Civil Rights Museum.Parking lot with free parking and a gift store.

Well we learned some things. I was disappointed not being able to get some pictures of the inside of historical things used back then being a museum and all. This is said to be a house that help slaves to get to freedom down the Mississippi River two blocks in front of the house. I think all young people should visit this house because the crawl spaces the slaves hide in the house is a must see.

The guided tour was fantastic and informative. This is more than a museum, it’s a piece of history. The staff is incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and put together a great tour! Would highly recommend! Would also recommend to see the home in general - built in the 1800s, it’s neat to see the way people lived at that time. :)

Our family enjoyed an informative and enlightening visit to this historical site. The museum is worth the price of admission and the small home is filled with artifacts that pertain to the Under Ground Railroad. The tour gave us a first hand experience of what life would have been like for slaves escaping the horrors of slavery. The guides were exceptional in their knowledge and presentation of the history. Very informative and highly recommended for every single person to visit.

I have taken multiple tours on the topic of slavery in the past, but I still learned quite a bit more on this tour. I love the history of the building and the live tour. There was even some singing, good singing. Impressed. Also loved the warm welcome from the kittens in the backyard.

Beautiful place!! My only disappointment is that we were not able to take the 3 hour tour (3/12/19). We were told its only for groups on 10 and it has to be scheduled in advance. Its not clear on the website. The day we visited, there was enough people for 3 buses which would could have clearly generated a lot of money at $43 a person for the tour compared to $13 a person for the museum visit. Other than this, I was very pleased. I wish they would just have scheduled tours throughout the day. Just my opinion....

The light skinned young lady working there has a personality of gold, shes very knowledgeable and you can tell she enjoys what she does. I just hate that you cant take pictures once you enter, so you have to enter ready to listen and not have distractions. I took pics when I left out, just to bring back some memories. Its good learning the history of slaves, and what our ancestors had to go through for freedom if they had the courage to flee. It was a lot to take in in such a short time, the whole tour took maybe 1 hour, but its well worth the visit.

Ill just be bold and say it this way: my 13y.o. daughter and I agree that this was a more personal, and therefore more meaningful experience than the Nat. Civil Rights Museum. To stand where the nearly free stood, to see things as they really were is a new light. This isnt a history book. This is walking into history. The understanding is therefore deepened in the way it deserves to be if the world is ever to change in all the ways it should.

We had a wide range of opinions on our experiences here. My mom didnt like it because she didnt learn anything new (former history teacher). I didnt think that was the point of the visit. Weve heard the stories - whats it like to stand in the place where people lived it and imagine their experiences? I really liked it, especially the singing, drumming, and information about the quilts. And I wanted my son to stand in this house and hear these stories in a place that gave them some context. There were some issues, but they werent deal breakers for me. A kid outside had to point us to the entrance (its the back door of the front house). The credit card machine was down (luckily, I had cash). It was hot and crowded (we just squeezed on in - I dont suppose being squished below deck on a slave ship was comfortable either; it added to the experience). We had to leave before the tour ended. The cashier jumped up and said, Let me show you the basement before you head out. She took us on a quick tour of the highlights of the house that she didnt think should be missed. So kind. Personally, Im glad that I went.

A must see if you are in Memphis. Once home to abolitionist, Jacob Burkle, this home was built specifically to be used on the underground railroad. Museum staff will take you on a tour of the house, let you see the tunnel that runs under the house, and let you stand in the cellar where the runaway enslaved Africans would wait until it was safe to go to the next station on The Underground Railroad.

Very informative! Never knew quilts were used in the underground railroad! They need to make a movie about that, i would definitely like to see a reenactment of how they read the quilts to understand what to do. They desperation to escape slavery was very strong for them to withstand all the things they had to go through.
