A beautiful and unique property that provides excellent food, service, history, and comfort. Its hard to believe that theres a place you can stay that has a view and accessibility to nearby restaurants and attractions while being downtown and near the UW campus while lacking the city noise. Falling asleep to the lake noise and waking up sipping coffee to a lake sunrise is hard to beat.

Stayed here three years straight and every other time left happy. Booking the standard King size room, we were getting unique experience each stay. First, we got a room with lake view, then a higher one in the mid-section that combines both city and lake sights, and the most recent one had a huge terrace (right above the Statehouse sign). All of these were exceptionally clean, relatively large and had all the necessary useful stuff inside.LOCATION is probably the best possible in town. Although there are few more hotels closer to the Capitol in Madison, they do not have such an amazing lakeside terrace as the Edgewater. Convenient PARKING garage right underneath the building, with good walkway and tunnel system that help you get from the car to the unit in a matter of few seconds. As well, I love the tunnel that connects Wisconsin building with the one that has relaxation pool area; you dont need to get dressed a lot in order to get to it.Large locker next to the pool is equipped with everything you might imagine. I had never lacked a towel, or any other piece of the cosmetics to clean myself up (picture attached).Heading to the Edgewater, I am not taking anything on me, but my own clothes.I would like to say thanks to all the people who made our stays there unforgettable!

Beautiful hotel, excellent location, comfortable walking distance to the capital (most beautiful capital building Ive been to) and the university/State street. Excellent views of the lake. Very comfortable beds, quality linens. No plastic bed covers to make you sweat all night. Comfy pillows. Self parking underground is very nice and reasonably priced, nice being by the university without having to worry about parking! Toilets are adult sized, shower is huge, nice and hot but the water pressure is lacking. Hallways are darkish but inviting not scary. Tvs are fine but if your staying here to watch TV then I don’t know what to say to you. Room was quiet, hotel was clean and classy. We enjoyed our stay. Thank you very much!

This place is beyond any expectations I had. I love how clean and luxurious the entire property is. The spa and relaxation pool are a must visit and there is a tunnel between the buildings. If you get a chance hit up the cafe the iced kalua mocha is so incredible. The statehouse had a delicious mimosa and charcuterie board as well. My new favorite place to go for a relaxing retreat. Expect to pay for the experience but its so worth it you cant leave without feeling completely pampered and revived.

Stopped here between Chicago and the Twin Cities. Gorgeous view of the lake. However we left the window open to enjoy the fresh air and were awoken by what we termed a “whistle ghost”. Some place in our room was vibrating from the wind causing a whistling sound. Lastly, the “Skybar” is not actually a bar, it’s more of a “Liebar”! That being said, the food and drinks is at the actual bar... Augie’s we’re delicious =)

Very nice hotel. They have an ice skating Rick out the back by the lake in the winter. Right next door is the spa, easily one of the best in the state. The hotel is modern and upscale, within walking distance to cafe/ restaurants and bars if you feel so inclined! Madison is a really nice and fun city, this hotel is a great place to stay when in Madison.

Elegant, mid 20th century waterfront property that has been completely remodeled and refined. Many types of rooms and suites are available. Classy restaurant, pub, spa, pool, an incidentals shop and several types of meeting rooms including a grand ballroom are inside the facility. Ice skating in season. Many Madison attractions are within walking distance. Rooms are large and well furnished. Enjoyable stay. It was our second visit here.

Just rating the ice rink at the Edgewater— very small but nice, smooth ice. Relatively cheap- $6 as a student, $7 adult, $3 ice skate rental. Can’t get pretty full but great view of the lake. Hotel seems very nice and fancy. Food and drinks and a warm skate house on site.

I booked a room with a family members card as a birthday present for $130 and when I went to check in they informed me I was getting the federal government price (I don’t work for the government) and the front desk concierge told me to wait and then went in the back room. Five minutes later she said I would have to pay with a different price with a different card. She told me the room would be $170 and seemed like she didn’t care that I have to pay with MY card and at a higher price. I got to my room and got a notification $300 was withdrew from my bank account. When I checked out in the morning I inquired about the $300 and a different concierge told me it was room price + $75 deposit. My room was actually $180 plus tax. Not a huuuge deal but $230 for a queen bed room for one night is just not worth it. I got three spa treatments the next morning which were great, but I will NEVER stay here and NEVER recommend it to anyone ever.

Every detail is curated and refined to enhance guests’ experiences. Unrivaled, panoramic, stunning views of Lake Mendota & the Wisconsin State Capital - simply the best way to take in the sights, sounds, and vibe of the Isthmus. When matched with resort-style accommodations, including a steam room, XL hot tub, spa, etc., the nautical theme, the docks, and breath-taking sunsets/sunrises - it’s not unfathomable to think you’ve been transplanted to a bay near the ocean in the Southeast; or to a remote, serene “Boundary Waters” setting. It may sound odd to compare the atmosphere of Wisconsin’s capital city to a bay in Florida, or the Boundary Waters of northern Minnesota — but I truly felt like I was on vacation. The neighborhood is pristine, safe, and offers a lot of historic charm. You’re a short (1/4-mile or less) from the restaurants, bars, shops, and entertainment of State Street. I can imagine the area between State & Edgewater is more crowded and less serene when UW-M is in-session, but you could walk down the nearby streets & alleys and hear the birds chirping, the jingle of a dog collar, the whir of an electric scooter, the song of wind chimes, etc.A few minor grievancesAlthough we payed $18 for 2 pints of Blue Moon, the bar is beautiful with abundant outdoor space for taking in the truly priceless Lake Mendota sunset.Style/decor in the rooms could have used a refresh 15 years ago. I can see that may be a nod to authenticity / history, so I was not as bothered by this as I would’ve been at a chain-hotel - particularly because in no sense did that limit the level of luxury afforded. The tub was enormous, the robes were exquisite, the bed rivaled by only those found at Westin hotels, room was spacious, views incredible (how rare it is to have a window in the bathroom!)A stay at the Edgewater encapsulates the best of what Madison, the best city in the Midwest, has to offer.

This is a very nice hotel. Theres a lot to do here, its right in the heart of Madison, the staff are nice, and we enjoyed our stay. Why the low score then? When booking the hotel I was not told there would be a $18 resort fee per night -- I checked by going through the booking process again, its nowhere obvious (I couldnt find it). It is in the small print in my confirmation email. What do I get for my resort fee? Internet access, access to the gym, and transportation to the airport. I asked if I could opt out of these services and not pay the fee, and was told that the fee is mandatory. That means its part of the price, so they should just increase the nightly price by $18.I dont know why a nice hotel has these weird anti-consumer predatory practices. It sucks. I really like the hotel experience but this is slimy, and so 1 star from me.

I just met a family member staying here, but she showed me around and gave me a tour of her room and I had to leave a positive review. The room was in the older part of the hotel but had a huge gorgeous bathroom with a clawfoot bathtub and separate shower. There was a dishwasher, refrigerator and freezer and the view of the lake and UW union was killer. You could access the new hotel through a tunnel or walk outside in the open garden space. The newer part of the hotel was classy and sophisticated. I live in Madison but would definitely recommend this place to visitors or locals looking for a staycation.

Our group of 120 met for an early, classroom-style presentation. Sound, lighting and temperature were all excellent, totally supportive of our groups gathering. The staff was very attentive with all of the food & drink provisions perfectly provided. The Internet service is lightning fast, over 80Xs faster (166 MB/s) than Monona Terrace. Finally, to facilitate the rush of our attendees departing at the same time, they open the parking structures gate to save the time that would otherwise be spent in a line.

Update.. Jason Wells from reservations called and apologized about the confusion and stated there would not be a cancellation fee. Thank you for your assistance and being sensitive to the crisis that is happening not just in our Country, but in fact in our World. Five stars..the hotel is taking advantage of people having to cancel reservations due to the National Health Crisis and travel restrictions by charging cancelation fees. I wasnt due to check in until Monday, found out my conference was cancelled Saturday at noon and immediately cancelled my room but they said they have a 72 hour policy and will not change that even in the mist of the National Health Crisis. Bad business, if conference is rescheduled Ill stay in my car before Id stay in a hotel that is taking advantage of people during a crisis.

I have stayed here before so we came back. The location is great, but the price is expensive, plus lots of additional resort fees and such. Got up to the room, found an empty bottle of water on the floor - no big deal, put that away, then discovered vomit on the bed skirt. Called, said someone would come. No one came - I left an arrow on paper showing it. went out. came back - still there. Called again - was told they couldnt find it. Pretty worried about cleanliness at this hotel... very unapologetic about it.

Our daughter is graduating this spring 2020 from UW Madison nursing school and with COVID-19 and her being a frontline person she had to work the day after the virtual commencement/Mother’s Day. We came from Minneapolis to pick her up and bring her home but she had to work until 3 o’clock which is three hours past check out. The front desk manager upon hearing this kindly gave us a 3 o’clock check out. I had only requested until 1:00! He is truly kind and this property just keeps getting better and better.

While the Edgewater itself and the event I attended was incredible, one small issue was with stroller accessibility. I knew how to get everywhere by taking the long staircase but we couldnt do that with our stroller and getting into the building and then trying to find the elevators and then the right floor was somewhat difficult. Once wed found the right exit we had a great time but it was poorly signposted and therefore a little prohibitive for us and our 1 year old.
