Good view and good scienceThe most incredible view of LA, you can see the entire city from up there, and you can also see the Hollywood sign, I visited it in the daytime and I enjoyed it, but I heard that it is more incredible at night.Inside you can enjoy free scientific exhibits, that the whole family would enjoy this, kids, teens, and adults, you can also see the big telescope inside the dome, and you might even be lucky to see them moving the telescope, I read that you can even look in the telescope some nights, I am not so sure about that.Parking is very bad, it is expensive and you will have to park far away and walk up the hill the rest of the way, their website recommends taking a bus up there, you should consider it.

My favorite place to hike and to walk. I visit it 3 to 4 times a week. The city view at sunset is just magnificent, you can see Downtown LA and Hollywood perfectly. You will notice a lot of tourists and families at the Observatory, but there is plenty of hikes that are for adventurous people, some leading to the Hollywood Sign, which can take more than 4 hours round trip. If you are going to hike, take a water bottle with you, many hiking trails dont have drinking fountains. The night view of the city is magical, and many times a year several people gather to stargaze and to see meteor showers. If you are visiting Los Angeles, this is a place to visit.

This is one of the only popular place in Los Angeles that I vote as a must see. The views are amazing! I suggest coming here closer to sunset time, as you will get to experience both day and night view of LA. The hiking is fun here, but I suggest bringing layers, our weather can change in only a few hours! Packing your own lunch is highly recommended! The Planetarium is a great plus point if you want to do something different there.

This spot is one of the must go spots of Los Angeles. Griffith Observatory is the public astronomic center. People can go here to look through the telescopes, explore the exhibits, watch the shows, and look at the beautiful city from above. This place inspires people to observe and understand the sky and the universe. It is great for gatherings and hiking; therefore, it is great to go here in the mornings and afternoons.I spend at least 2 hours every time I go here as there is a lot of walking up and down the hills. The time you spend to find a parking spots can easily take up to 30 minutes, all street parkings. It can get very crowded so plan your visit ahead.

Although it’s currently closed, I had the opportunity to visit plenty of times since my childhood! It’s a beautiful, educational, and breathtakingly peaceful place even with the crowds. It’s the best “free museum” around LA and the planetarium is really cheap (they have student discounts!) and fun to visit. You can enjoy the view and the trails in the area, you can even have a picnic on the grass :) And star-gazing is another free activity you can take advantage of all the way up there away from the city lights! Highly recommend for a night out with friends and family or just by yourself, even a fun workout!

Griffith Park is one of the biggest parks in the state and features a wide variety of attractions and activities, including the Los Angeles Zoo, a planetarium, theatre, riding centre, golf courses, tennis courts, and walking trails. While exploring the trails and scenic drives of the park, you’ll witness spectacular views and pristine natural areas. The Griffith Observatory, another popular attraction in the park, is situated on the north slope of Mount Hollywood, high enough to be a perfect location from which to watch the night sky and enjoy views of the city below.During a visit, you’ll have the opportunity to view the moon and planets when you look through the Zeiss telescope. Timing your visit to the observatory is key. The earlier the better. Parking is the biggest issue. There is a cheap shuttle that you can pick up near the Greek. Normally always very busy after 5:00 due to the telescope opening @ 7:00 PM. Plenty to see prior to then. Parking @ the observatory as well as most of the street leading up the hill is $10 an hour. We went on a Wednesday @ 3:00 and even though the signs said that the observatory lot was full there were plenty of spaces available. Just be careful because the road up is one way and if the lot is full you may be in for a bit of a drive to get back to the front road. Great scientific information about the universe, solar system and the universe. If you want to see any of the shows buy your tickets when you arrive.

On December 16, 12.20 km2 of land surrounding the observatory was donated to the City of Los Angeles by Griffith J. Griffith. In his will Griffith donated funds to build an observatory, exhibit hall, and planetarium on the donated land. Griffiths objective was to make astronomy accessible by the public, as opposed to the prevailing idea that observatories should be located on remote mountaintops and restricted to scientists.Griffith drafted detailed specifications for the observatory. In drafting the plans, he consulted with Walter Adams, the future director of Mount Wilson Observatory, and George Ellery Hale, who founded (with Andrew Carnegie) the first astrophysical telescope in Los Angeles. As a Works Progress Administration (WPA) project, construction began on June 20, 1933, using a design developed by architect John C. Austin based on preliminary sketches by Russell W. Porter. The observatory and accompanying exhibits were opened to the public on May 14, 1935, as the countrys third planetarium. In its first five days of operation the observatory logged more than 13,000 visitors. Dinsmore Alter was the museums director during its first years. The building combines Greek and Beaux-Arts influences, and the exterior is embellished with the Greek key pattern.During World War II the planetarium was used to train pilots in celestial navigation. The planetarium was again used for this purpose in the 1960s to train Apollo program astronauts for the first lunar missions.

Griffith Observatory is one of the best place to visit in los angles. If you love hiking then this place is for you. If you love photography then this place is for you for sightseeing and doing touristy things. If you have your car then parking is bit high $10/ hour but entry is free of cost. You can bring a picnic and eat on their beautiful lawn, or if youre hungry afterwards, dont miss Best Fish Taco in Ensenada. Youll thank me later by liking my post.

There is so much to do here. We watched a live show and it was cool. My son really enjoyed it and that’s what really matters. Myself I already enjoy astronomy, so for my son to like it, that made it worth it.

There is a cool instrumentation called the Foucault Pendulum that establishes the Earth’s rotation by knocking off pegs!!Perfect place to see the downtown skyline, night sky and experience cool breeze!!!Hollywood sign is also quite visible from here and one can take wonderful pictures if happen to visit in daylight.Free parking available at the entrance to the park and can catch a ten minute bus ride to the observatory for 50 cents/person. Parking also available at the observatory at 10$ per hour.

One of my favourite places I have visited so far. As someone who has studied science this feels like a paradise to visit. From massive telescopes all the way to a detailed periodic table. Amazing view of the LA basin as well as you can see the Hollywood sign. I’d recommend going at less busy times of the day. Parking can be a hassle so might be better to Uber down there.

Super cool place to check out to see the Hollywood sign. Parking stinks but if you go early enough you shouldn’t have a problem. There are many cool areas to read about and check out. Tons of outdoor areas to walk around or sit. The views are 360 degrees in this area and it’s stunning!!! It’s free to walk in and a couple bucks to see the presentation. Definitely a tourist spot but I recommend !!

The Griffith Observatory is a must on any visit to LA.Not only does it provide a great insight into the night (and day time) sky, but it also gives an amazing view of the Los Angeles skyline, as well as the best uninterrupted, close up view of the famous Hollywood sign!Only a short drive up from West Hollywood and the walk of fame, it can also be accessed via foot if you so desire through the paths leading all the way from the bottom.

Although it was a rainy and overcast morning, it was still very busy at Griffith Observatory. We thoroughly enjoyed the interactive exhibits inside the Observatory on all things Astrological. From discovering how much we weighed (simulated) on each of the different planets and moons to creating our own earthquake on a seismometer. Luckily the weather cleared up by the time we finished exploring the exhibits, and we were able to get a clear birds-eye view of Los Angeles and the famous Hollywood sign.
