GORGEOUS trail in Ketchikan. Very well taken care of. There are lots of Little Rock paths and tons of different trails that you can venture off to.It’s not too difficult of a hike, and not too long. Maybe about 45 minutes. When you get up to the top there’s incredible views of the town.

Great, well maintained hike! We made the walk from the cruise port to the college and it wasnt bad at all. Didnt realize it was a one way vs a return but put us back near town which was nice. Made for a nice morning hike.

Pretty fun and easy hike that starts at the University Of Alaska southeast and ends on a highway. It’s about a 3/4 mile walk downhill back to the cruise ships. We took a free shuttle from the creek street stop and ended about 6 blocks from the university. You will hike uphill to the trailhead and eventually see signs. The whole thing including waiting for the bus was just over 2 hours. Nice views and pretty fun even carrying our 3 year old.Finish the hike with a shake from burger queen!I would recommend this for people stopping in Ketchikan on a cruise ship. You can easily do this and some other sight seeing no problem.

Great hike! Definitely medium to high level of activity, lots of climbing over rocks, up steep spots, and across tiny waterfalls. Loved it. Little tricky to find the entrance near the University, needs some signage for sure! Odd that it stops right on the highway on the other end but doesn’t take long to walk back to downtown.

A great trail for the whole family! You can go up the stairs in the middle or end or you can start at the college to avoid the stairs. Beautiful and serene.

Nice to walk the well maintained trail in this natural reservate, so close to the village and harbor. When the weather is good, you can see downtown Ketchikan, the ships and airplanes (well, youll hear them anyway)

Amazing trail! This trail was gorgeous but could be kind of difficult as it was very steep in some areas! We took a taxi from downtown because the free shuttle doesnt go up that far!

Drenching rain. Multiple streams to jump. Huge trees. Beautiful views. Must hike. Wear a real raincoat with another layer. Water resistant gear will leave you soaking wet and cold head to toe. Dont feed the dinosaurs.

I got off a Cruise ship. You can take a free public bus from the dock out to Safeway store. Steep climb to the trail or pay $2 and transfer to another bus that goes up to the trailhead. Fun easy trail. Much in the woods high up with few views out of the water below. Still very worth doing if you want something free and pure Alaska.

We did the whole trail, from the trailhead by SE Alaska University to the highway exit. We took a taxi up from the downtown area and quickly realized that was a very good choice as the hike up to any of the tra heads was a significant climb. The trail itself is a very nice tour of the forest mountainside. While it is a well established trail, there are plenty of aggressive slopes, both up and down, to navigate and very good trail shoes, or even boots, seem a wise choice. There is a mixture of rocks, gravel, tree roots, and general forest floor to navigate. Along the trail is a beautiful selection of of new and very old growth, with no signs of logging other than what has been needed to maintain the trail. Toward the end there are a couple of wonderful overlooks of the town and port, along with the surrounding islands. The scenery, both in the forest and at the overlooks is beautiful and I most certainly recommend the experience.

Simple to get to from the cruise port and a beautiful hike. We only saw one other group of people who were equally excited about the trail. Hiking boots were not necessary but I enjoyed having them.

Its a nice trail but I would recommend that you start at the collage, the trail has a look out at the top of the ridge , but any further then that its strait down a Rockie cliff, be cosious when walking that way.

Great little hike, be prepared for some steps. If you are coming into it off of Austin st on 3rd ave, turn right at the fork for views of the harbor. Only took us a couple hours, plenty of time to explore the rest of the town and even take a seaplane ride.

The trailhead is within walking distance of the cruise terminals. Go uphill and turn left on the third avenue bypass and look for wooden stairs on the right. I would suggest you to take a cab to the University of Alaska end of the trail and hiking in the direction back towards town if you want to maximize your time. The trail parallels that road. Early in the morning there is lots of noise from the port and sea planes taking off, but pretty soon you get lost in the temperate rainforest. There are a few really large trees along the way and a giant stump with other trees growing from it!

Great trail if you are looking for an adventure. It is an unmaintained trail, so be prepared to step over fallen trees and slushy areas. No trail signs, so come prepared with Google maps. Reasonably strenuous...not suitable for kids or the elderly.

This is a nice short trail if you stop when you are abeam The Plaza Mall. After that it is not maintained, so it becomes more challenging. You can take the bus to the UAS-Ketchikan (west) Campus and join the trail from there. This side of the Rainbird Trail crosses several streams, some with wooden foot bridges. Ravens, red squirrels, and stellar jays provide musical entertainment, while trees, nurse logs, lichens, fungi, ferns, and mosses offer the visual texture.
