Decent place. Nice and informative visit. Worth a look.
A great visit to this Center tells you about the Tongass National Forest. Knowledgeable staff and helpful visitors. It is a $5 entrance fee but goes back to the center. Well worth the visit
Good museum of Alaska. Very informative and covers many areas and aspects. You will learn something new
This facility is commonly shared between South East Alaska Discovery Center and Tongass National Forest Visitor Center. There is a $5/person charge if you dont bring your America the Beautiful annual multi-agency pass with you. The theatre offers short informative videos about 20 minutes in length.
This is a really cool museum with tons of history and science information. Make sure to see a Ketchikan Story or other movie. Admission is free for those with annual park passes.
Ok good place to get info of history and local items. Not a fan of the movie on the artists though
Excellent displays of the ecosystems in this area. Comfortable theater with videos that are of very excellent quality.
This was a great little stop while on our cruise. Our kids loved learning all about Alaska from the scavenger hunt. The rangers talked about what its like to live in Alaska and all about the indian tribes in the area. They answered all their questions. They kids wanted to stay in the museum all day but we wanted to walk around the town a little more before the boat left.
Good for shopping and Free Wi-Fi...
A hidden gem. Get away from the tourists and check this place out!
Another great public facility. The entry fee is only $5, and they have interactive displays, talks with the rangers and movies. We collected our third Jr Ranger program here, and the badge they have is outstanding.
You can get some information from Alaska here this will teach you some history and where to go
A lot to see and learn. Very informative
Entrance fee is $5. You see good presentations of the local vacation and history. Theres even a small theater with ranger presentations. If anything its a good way to donate to the National Forest.
We have lived here for 8 years and this was our first visit. We had some free time and decided to stop in. It was so much better than expected! We will be back for sure!

The Center is operated by the U.S. Forest Service and has a $5 general admission fee. First, see the short movie and then walk through the exhibits including the forest and native habitats/clothing. You can use a National Park pass to get into the museum free. This site was an absolute jewel! The rangers are helpful and pleasant.
Great place to take your children or visitors. We always enjoy our experience here. Only wish they still had the little store!

Learned a ton. Great place
The Southeast Alaska Discovery Center is operated by the US Forest Service as it is about the Tongass National Forest. It is so well organized and presented that it outdoes many better-funded National Park Visitor Centers. The building has a soaring central hall more than two stories high with exposed wood beam architecture. The displays cover the natural and human environment, and the many different users of the national forest. Less well known is the effort the Forest Service made to reconcile with the Native American tribes in the Tongass National Forest (Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian tribes) after a long history of suppressing the rights of the first peoples in the area. There are very interesting Native American artifacts in the collection. There are several videos and a map store. The Discovery Center is a short walk from the cruise ship docks and a well worth visiting Ketchikan highlight. The center Director had many valuable insights to share and was very friendly and accessible, possible in a small center with only a couple permanent staff.
Good learning center very helpful people
This is a great place to visit, however the winter hours are totally different than the summer hours. In the winter they are only open on Fridays.
