Wonderful walk. Historical signage could be greatly improved. Certainly descriptions are almost assuredly false and/or cant be supported by historical records. Buildings are maintained better than some historical sites. There are bison nearby in a fenced area that you can see. This is a perfect outing for a nice walk. There is free admission and parking. Be sure to go in the cemetery. The gravestones are very interesting.

Took the kids here on the day they brought the town to life. We really enjoyed seeing all the reenactments. My son is really into blacksmithing. You got to see the Forge in action. We really enjoyed being able to look inside the buildings and learn the history of the area. The Watermill was intriguing to the children.

A beautiful collection of historic buildings from around the area that have been moved to this site for preservation. Unfortunately there were no reenactors there when we passed through, but we really enjoyed the visit anyway. There are good signs at each building that include some history and where it was moved from.

This historic park exemplifies the best restored village. When one enters, and walks through the village, it gives one the nostalgic feeling of days gone by. One can imagine what it was like to live 175 years ago when church was close to cottage or small home. The grist mill is placed in the center of the village. Absolutely lovely village nestled in a pastoral setting. I was told the buildings were moved in from various Missouri areas.

Such a great place to go and learn about our past. The buildings were moved from other places lovingly put back together and cared for. The reenactments were such a pleasure to watch. The craftsman are enjoyable to watch and talk to. If you get a chance be sure to go it is a hidden gem of Kansas City.

That was a very neat little set-up and I like that everything was close enough together that it wasnt an ungodly walked between the houses but they were spaced far enough apart that it was fairly believable. Its also very neat that theyre genuinely historic although I do have to wonder about the headstones outside the church, because unless those are original to that spot thats a little creepy. I think it would be very cool to go to on a day when everything is open and they have their demonstrations unfortunately I missed that, however I will say I drove half an hour out of my way before leaving town for a 3-hour drive to go see this and I do not regret it at all. And also worth mentioning they do have handicap accessible trails which I thought was pretty neat as well and they also have bathrooms on site.

My wife and I took our goddaughter and her father to First Saturdays last weekend. It was a convenient, last minute idea that we thoroughly enjoyed. I went with my father in the 80s and had never been back until now. So much was the same that nostalgia was overwhelming at times. Its an unforgettable experience for a child. Adults dig it too, especially the reenactments and historical information. Alas, everyone loves the bison!!!

I grew up going here. Its beautiful - serene during off days and cheerfully bustling as a replica 1800s town during events. I will say that theres a bit of a walk to get to it, but you get to walk past the parks buffalo habitat. Go during an event, take a little cash to buy some candy or a souvenir from the General Store, and enjoy.

Not worth going to unless you go on a day when the buildings are open. When they are closed, you are unable to see through the foggy plexiglass windows in each building. Unfortunately, also went on a day when there were scouts camping throughout the village. Hard to get the feel for a historic village with tents and chairs all over the place.
