Im an opera fan. Ive been a subscriber to both Houston Grand Opera and Opera in the Heights for years. In my opinion Opera in the Heights gives a far more enjoyable performance. The theater, sets and costumes are basic compared to HGO, but that is more than offset by the brilliant voices, enthusiastic performances, and the smaller venue allowing an up-close experience. Im also a cello student so I sit close to the orchestra to watch the cellists. Theyre very friendly and happy to chat during intermission.

I went here after I got a deal off Living Social. Ive seen two plays here so far, and one was mediocre (although I think it was due to the story, and not the actors). The second was great. The actors are very energetic and funny. Its a great option for affordable live theater. The theater is set in a church auditorium. The seating is open, but the place is so small, theres really not a bad seat. Other great plus: all concessions are $1 (although no beer or wine).
