I was fortunate enough to be invited to a performance and was absolutely moved. Not only was the choreography perfectly timed to the music, the skill can be seen with every step. Bravo. Having watched the Kelly Ballet practice all day and later in the day, parents drop their children off while they spent hours after school practicing, I can truly appreciate the work and dedication that goes into their performance. It took me many years to finally understand but ballet is truly beautiful.

Houston Ballet never disappoints and offers a fine venue in which to attend shows. I recommend that you see a show if you live in the area. The staff have always been on point as well.

The solid program with good instructors for ballet lesson. However, I think because they are sleeping on success so they forget the reality. The customer service is very awful here. They dont give out the school closed for holidays announcement until many parents called them and asked. It also happened with the payment system. I think Houston Ballet should be more appreciate with their customers and give their customers more respect.

My husband grew up watching the Houston Ballets version of The Nutcracker on TV and has always wanted to see it live. For his birthday, I bought us tickets so he could finally see it live and in person. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the performance itself; however, I believe the ballet should require a minimum age to see performances. There was a large party in front of us, and while one of the little girls was cute, she decided to get out of her seat and dance to every single song in Act II (she was three). The girl then started talking a good bit, and security told the adults next to her that the child must be in her seat and quiet. She kept getting up and at one and was distracted with my clutch under my chair. In Act I, the woman next to the little girl was taking pictures of the performance and acted surprised/tried to argue with security when they told her to put up her phone. Please keep others in mind when you bring young children/toddlers/babies to these performances. We pay good money to watch the ballet – not your child. Security expects all children to sit in their seats and behave, and they will ask you to leave. If a child cannot sit quietly through a movie at the theater, then he/she is not old enough to go to the ballet.

I love the drop in classes because I do not have a regular schedule. Richie is a great dancer and teacher. He corrects our postures during class and is able to make the class fun with creative and artistic routines.I don’t know the name of the kind man who plays the piano, but I appreciate him too.The experience is very relaxing to me after long days. Because of the little time off I have, this conveniently concentrates art and exercise in a single slice of time.

Incredible company, one of the best in the world and my favorite performing arts event in Houston especially when they ditch the costumes and go modern.

During the performance, in front of hundreds of children, the word B**** was interjected into the performance. Not an accident. It was part of the Ballet program. Distasteful to the max. I will never go to a Houston Ballet again.

Its not what it used to be. I recently purchased founders box seats for the Nutcracker show and it was a disappointment. This is not the same show as of early years with great choreography, amazing dancers...no it was filled with kids on stage! Im sorry, but if I want to see toddlers on a stage Ill go to my local elementary school and support them. People want to see professional dancers and a bunch of toddlers in bumble bee customers is not getting your moneys worth. What do bees have to do with the Nutcracker? Come on now.

Horrible experience!!!!!! Do not waste youre money!!!!!! They had the nerve to sale us seats were half of the stage is covered by a balcony. Since the balcony covers half of the stage it is impossible to even pay attention to the play. We asked to be moved of seats they agreed, and never moved us. We left before the play was done because of it. Definitely not worth the hype. Called the customer service and did not even show any empathy towards the situation. Quote what do you want me to do about it. P.S. I know this review is a bit late, but better late than never. Big companies do not care about their customers, who help their foundations.

I agree with a previous review about an age limit for the ballet. I have been to see many ballets over the past 10+ years, but I have never had an experience as horrible as tonight. My sister and I waited until my niece was 11 years old to take her to see The Nutcracker and we took her for the first time tonight. The performance was immaculate. As a prior dancer, I always love going to the ballet. We did not appreciate the three kids under the age of five “sitting” behind us and their moms that were opening candy/letting them eat it, let them walk around, kick our seats, talk, and pull my niece’s hair. As we were leaving I heard other patrons talk about how they couldn’t believe they were not asked to leave or to keep quiet. It made my niece’s first experience a bad one and she doesn’t know if she wants to go back. Sometimes age limits are necessary to be respectful of your other patrons.

Just saw The Nutcracker and although we enjoyed the experience we really did not enjoy this version of The Nutcracker. Most of the people we talked to at the event were also grumbling. Not sure why the reviews say otherwise. The first Act was scattered and hard to follow and left our little girl very restless. Act II was much better with a LOT more substance, beautiful dance and a lot happier audience. I think you could tell by the audience how this adaptation was received.

I normally love all the ballets at this venue. But the ballet, Cinderella, was not one of them because I had my grand daughter with me and we were expecting a traditional Cinderella story. This ballet was certainly not for kids. This heartwarming story was changed in such a way that it really confused kids and adults alike. In the opening scene, Cinderella was dressed in boy clothes, had the build of a boy with dark brown hair cut into a mans buzz haircut so we both thought it was really a boy and wondered where Cinderella was. Surprise... it was Cinderella. Cinderellas father was depicted as a blatant alcoholic who was very much alive through most of the show; he would stagger in and out of the scenes and we all wondered why. The mean step-mother seemed to hate her 2 daughters as well as Cinderella which can be seen by her slapping each one in the face. There were no mice or birds as Cinderellas friends; she had instead a large group of creepy looking creatures as well as a male chimney sweep who grabbed her inappropriately causing a gasp from the audience... very poor taste. The creatures looked like Halloween goblins, who moved like the walking dead which really scared my 6 yr old grand daughter. When Cinderella finally gets to the ball, Prince Charming is way too forward for her so she dumps him in favor of one of his staff members. The ending was as confusing as the whole show. Overall, the dancing , music and costumes were top notch, except for Cinderellas costumes which were way out of character from the rest of the casts and story-lines theme. The last annoying feature occurred at intermission; there were too many long, long lines waiting for just 1 bartender to serve way too many people. .... There were no souvenirs for the kids nor any available kid food. After I purchased a room temperature apple juice for my grand daughter, we rushed to our seats only to be stopped by usher who said nothing but water was allowed inside. So everyone was left standing outside the entrance trying to quickly gulp down their beverage. This all could have been avoided with a simple sign at the bar stating only bottled water is allowed in the auditorium... but then no one would buy the more expensive beverages.... a good reason not to tell people in advance of the rules. Thumbs down to this show !

A month ago, I would have written a five-star review, but after receiving an email at 4:26 yesterday, a mere four days before Saturdays performance, things have changed. On September 12, I purchased two tickets to see The Nutcracker with my boyfriend - his first time to the ballet and my third. Ive raved about the performances and how nice everything is; however, notifying a patron FOUR DAYS before a performance that all showings at the Wortham have been canceled is beyond unacceptable. Harvey hit at the end of August, two weeks before I purchased my tickets. Customer service needs a lesson in customer service. Call the patron instead of email, notify well in advance (not FOUR DAYS), and dont send word 30 minutes before the box office closes. Unreal.

As his first full-length ballet, Madame Butterfly is Houston Ballet Artistic Director Stanton Welchs calling card. Taking its cue from the iconic Puccini opera, which in turn was inspired by the popular fictional narrative by John Luther Long, the ballet is a tragic tale of betrayal set in nineteenth-century Japan. It tells the story of the beautiful geisha Cio-Cio San, or Butterfly, who marries Lieutenant Pinkerton, an American naval officer. Instead of the life of happiness that she envisions, she is met with betrayal from both her husband and her people.
