Had a great time at the Alley theater last night. It is a fantastic venue. Our seats were great and the production was alternately funny, poignant, thought provoking and sad. In short, it was great! The theater is small enough to feel intimate but large enough to be truly professional. Their bar service works great. You can order your intermission drinks before the show and they are waiting for you at intermission. Coffee is self serve so no waiting. It is a Houston treasure!

The Alley always feels like visiting old friends. The productions are always first rate. Well written, performed and just awesome to experience. Intermission is well thought out from a refreshment standpoint. Unlike some theaters, refreshments arent allowed in the theater, but if ordered before the first act, they are waiting for you so no time wasted waiting in line.

The facility is very nice and comfortable. Modern restrooms and a bar to order expensive drinks in advance for intermission. The play seen was Quixote Nuevo, a Texas border adaptation of Don Quixote. Unexpected that 10-15% including songs were in Spanish with lines raising laughter only for the bilingual. Overall, most were able to follow the general storyline. Lead actor was very impressive.

We just saw the Murder on the Orient Express“. The play and the players were great. We really enjoyed it. The theatre is perfect. I think visitors who sit any of the seats can see and hear the play properly. The atmosphere is great. I strongly recommend this theater. We will definitely visit there, again. Our next play will be “1984” by George Orwell.

We have been going there for years and have never seen a bad performance. The set, actors and actresses were awesome. Excited about what we will see next. The only issue I had was the seats, something about them made my back uncomfortable. I noticed a lot of people kept moving around in their seats as well.

The attention to detail is remarkable. The lobby is adorned with sophisticated red carpet and the place was decorated in a way that built anticipation for the play I went to watch. Parking was just $10, the seats were comfortable, and even the affordable tickets give you a good view of the show. The set was well made and the actors threw a wonderful performance. The few times I took my eyes off the show to view my fellow audience members, I saw them entranced by the performance. They also sold drinks.

I used to work at the Alley. I take my wife on dates here often. Last night we attended 1984 and left at the intermission. There was no warning of the gratuitous profanity nor the explicit sex scene. We complained but received no apology or even an offer for a refund. The people we complained to didn’t even seem concerned. Not only was the performance terrible, but the customer service was nonexistent. Only the volunteer usher seemed as perturbed as we were.

I much prefer going to see plays at the Alley rather than Broadway. The plays weve been to on Broadway have very narrow seats with no leg room. It makes for an uncomfortable evening. Alley is palatial in comparison. The sets are always great at the Alley. Perhaps Broadway may be a bit more elaborate, but it doesnt contribute that much. The plays at the Alley have been very good, and some have been down right excellent. I did see a play on Broadway, and then saw the same one at the Alley. I must admit for that play, the one on Broadway was better (although it might have been because I saw it there first). There is a new artistic director for the Alley. I hope he doesnt change too much. Ive been going to plays there for 8 years or more, and havent been disappointed.

Just saw A Christmas Carol at the Alley, and what a bizarre production. An over abundance of random ghosts throughout the whole show blurs the storyline and minimizes the message of the 3 ghosts that are actually supposed to be in the story. Scrooges character isnt developed so that theres not much indication why he needs redemption. Too many special effects for no apparent reason than another ghostly dance break. Disappointing.

Among the greatest theaters in all of Houston. If you dont want an over crowded area, but at the same time some very well developed stages along with plots and fantastic plays, this is the place to go. A must visit for all Houstonians as well as tourists. You dont need to worry about where you set as seating wonderful everywhere. Fantastical jokes and plots. Great places to eat at only a short walk away from the theater.

Great time doing Theatre Day with the kids in a behind the scenes tour. Enjoyed watching The Three Musketeers. My only complaint is a staff member was extremely rude to our family. We had just finished the tour with a lunch break before the play. We had paid for the tour and tickets to the play and were denied access to the restrooms on the floor we were watching the play on an hour later. It would have been fine if they were polite about it but I have rarely encountered someone so rude that is there to provide support to the public and the arts.

Great place to watch a play. Went to see A Christmas Carol and it was a great experience. Every seat is a great seat. You can hear all dialog. One thing Im not sure: it seems you can order a cocktail before hand and when intermission arrives, you just walk over to the bar and your drink is on the table with a slip of paper and your name. Honor system is in place here. I almost went and grabbed one thinking they were complimentary.
