It was a little campy and the tenor did not show, but because it holds only 220 people any voice will carry the house. i prefer it to HGO that is a little too pretentious and rarely measures up.

It was a very interesting night,different...its an old church, small but comfortable, the singers, wonderful! And the Orchestra perfect, it was an Opera with a twist, you have to go and judge by yourself...you wont regret it.

Ive been a subscriber to both HGO and OH! for years now. In my humble opinion the artists at Opera in the Heights are every bit as talented as those at HGO, and far more accessible. I love being so close to the singers and the orchestra. OH! brings a sense of joy, humor and enthusiasm to the stage that I really enjoy, and for a far more modest price tag.

I was lucky enough to see Carmen, Saturday night and Sunday matinee. 3/28/15 and 3/29/15. If you were daft enough to go expecting the full on Bizets Opera, you were probably confused. But that would have been an error on your part. This was an adaptation of The Big Show by Peter Brook. (All media promotions were very clear about this!) HOWEVER, if you did your homework and came with an open mind, My bet is you were WOWED! This had all of the passion and more intensity than the Big One Because of the intimacy of player and audience, (Without all the Chorus, Costumes etc.) it pulled you in and held tight for the entire show. In my opinion the cast / orchestra / direction was all as close to perfect as you could ask for. The change in the cast for Carmen and Jose brought a different mood to the show but I can say neither were better, both sets were amazing. The casting for Micaela and Escamillio remained the same in both productions and they were flawless. Lisa Boriks presence on stage left me wanting more of her! Bravo! And shame on anyone that went expecting this to be what is was never meant to be!

(Candide) The parking limited, so be prepared to park along the side streets. The venu itself is a cross of an old movie theater (seating-wise) & a college classroom for theater. You can dress up if you are heading out after, or dress casually. Its an informal setting. The orchestra & performers were excellent. Kathryn Bowden (soprano) & Tara Curtis (Mezzo-soprano) have absolutely beautiful voices. I could listen to them all night. Michael Scarcelle also gave an excellent performance. The orchestra, while smaller than the HGO, was extremely pleasant. I was very impressed with everything OH! did with such a limited budget (only 1/3 of the funds come from ticket sales). For $50/seat....total bargain. Ill go back.

You cant get any closer to opera than this. You can see the orchestra, and sometimes the singers walk through the audience!
