Its a great place to take out of town guests and especially good for kids. Lots to see and do and there is plenty of history on view. The one real disappointment for me was that Houston did not get a real shuttle, just a phony mock up. That model on top of the 747 just isnt the same as the real thing. How they decided to give a real one to NYC is a real mystery to me since they had absolutely NOTHING to do with any space flight ever.

I was really excited to see the Shuttle Carrier and the Shuttle, but am really disappointed with how, for lack of a better word, sanitized the display are. You dont get to see the cockpit of the shuttle carrier or even go on that floor. The main cabin of the carrier basically feels like youre inside a building. The shuttle is similar and its a replica, which is ok, but still, you dont know whats real and whats been changed to make it a better display or safe for visitors.

It is so great that this location is always updating to see new and exciting information regarding space travel. The only downsides is I went during a time when we dont have our own rockets flying, and the shuttle program has ended, so there are some features of the facility that track active missions that are not as active at the moment. The tours into NASA are fun, but I was here during a government shutdown, so there was nobody actually working to watch. It is great that they have added the building over at Rocket park to protect the Saturn V rocket they have on display there and preserver a piece of our history. As an added bonus, they had the old Galileo 5 Shuttle prop from Star Trek TOS on display in the cafe when I was visiting. It is sad that they dont regularly offer visits to the Training Pool, but since there are not many missions happening right now, there may not be much to see as of this writing.

Its a frecking space shuttle. How cool is this. Ok. The space shuttle is a full size replica but the 747 is fully legit and you must check it out. Ive been here twice and have joined as a member. Worth a revisit next time Im there. Did I mention the space shuttle?

If you want a proof that moon landing is a hoax, I highly recommend going there. A museum made of cheap replicas, suited for kids. Two stars as I got nice pictures and for the plane outside, but highly disappointed, highly expensive tickets and no real experience. Im not sure why would smithsonian museums go this level, they had great museums in DC.

It was amazing to walk through the shuttle and the airplane. I remember seeing it fly into Dallas as a child. So much cooler to walk through it in person. There is an elevator for those needing it. It is four flights of stairs. There are activities and information in the plane that are fun for kids and interesting for adults.

Nice place to visit with your kids. Fun & educational. One of the best places to visit around the Houston area. This place is located near the Space Center Houston building. There are some fun activities for children and lots of artifacts to see. If someone needs, there is an elevator. In Independence Plaza, the exhibit complex will allow visitors access a space shuttle replica named Independence, as well as the first shuttle carrier aircraft, NASA 905, outside of the space center. The eight-story, multiple-exhibit complex will showcase the flight deck, middeck and payload bay of both aircrafts.

The displays are really excellent. Very fun and informative. It is self guided which has its pros and cons. The pros are that you can move at your own pace, see only what you want to, and have the freedom to bounce around different exhibits. The cons are that there is absolutely no flow to it at all. You have people coming at you from all sides and you get that constant crowded, in the way feeling. Some of the exhibits are really tight on space and you will be shoulder to shoulder in some of them, and get that being rushed along feeling. Overall it was a great experience that I would recommend.

vi
Review №43

When you are in Houston, better visit the Houston Space centre. Come early and finish off the tram tour at the earliest possible or else you would end up stranded on queue for more than 30-45minutes. Once you are done with that go for other interesting and informative stuffs around. If you are a first timer you would definitely enjoy the tour and if you have visited other space centers in US this might turn into a mediocre one.

Everyone in Houston was so upset when NASA did not choose to place an actual shuttle at Space Center Houston or Johnson Space Center. Houston got a trainer model and I think they should be happy. What an awesome feeling to stand inside and let your imagination take you to outer space. This is worth the price of admission.
