Super cool place to check out. Odds and ends that will inspire your inner artist! Also take a large list of items, so check their website. Fabric, tiny things, old pictures, youll be amazed.

I love coming here to find a variety of unique items. You can find all sorts of things here, including: old toys and dolls, jewelry, art supplies, fabric, old photos, etc. This is a great place to come if you are an artist and are looking for items for your practice, or if youre just looking for some unique jewelry/clothes. Some things are priced individually, but the majority of things are sold by the pound. There are a couple of cats that hang out here, so if youre allergic, this might not be the place for you. They also occasionally host art shows, which are fun to check out.

First off, I want to say that I love animals, and they had two cats that I got to pet, so bonus. As far as art supplies go, this is the equivalent of an art thrift store. They charge you by weight, and I dont remember very well, but I think there is a minimum you have to pay if you use card (it was not that much), so you might want to use cash. India ink is super expensive for someone like me, and I literally got like 6 things of Indian ink for less than $10 (it mightve been less than that, I just dont want my fuzzy memory to be too inaccurate). Place is a little disorganized in my opinion, but I like to think of it as organized chaos. I got a cool sticker that I dont remember if I paid for or not (I think it was free). Staff was helpful and understanding! Will definitely be coming back. They have a lot of kooky stuff. Had a wonderful experience just browsing through things.

Its like a crafting thrift store with a gallery space. Not what I was expecting, but very interesting. I would go for events and if I needed materials to create.

Excellent, weird and amazing place! If you need 29 doll heads and 8 feet of fuzzy thread for your weird art project, this is the place to go. Great resource for all arts in Houston!

It is an eclectic store containing black-and-white photo archives, deconstructed art and architecture equipment like right-angles and technical pens, and even extensive stationary. You think you are at a mini mall containing JOANN, Michaels, and Texas Art; yet, the prices are reasonable and their selection is growing. The majority of the stuff there, however, is used with some exceptions.

Went in for a stranger things art exhibit but stayed for the cool assortment of random objects. Crafter and artist paradise. I ended up finding a beautiful cowboy print. Will definitely be back.

On my first visit I had a great time just adventuring through this place. I did find a couple of things I could not live without. There is so much inspiration to be found here. However, I found the staff to be less than friendly even upon my usual verbal greeting of Hey! Hows it going?I also found that many items had no price at all and similar items that had a price had 2 different prices for the exact item.Besides that, I have no real complaint.I will be visiting quite often.I have to admit that the deal I got was Awesome!

Looking for unique one of a kind items. Go here. Into crafting, and making of art, this place has a huge selection of items to re-purpose. We are talking Donald Trump HUGE.The prices are a little steep, but that is quickly over shadowed by the unique finds here.

I find it most difficult to express the full sensory experience that is the Art Asylum. Words ring hollow against the resplendent melange of objects one finds smattering the walls, embedded in wickerwork, and tussling about in storage binds. I think at this point Ill say Ive run aground in my powers of description, and Ill just have to say I love this place, its truly unique and reflects the two fantastic people who operate it.

As an artist i see value in junk, but sometimes junk is simply junk and the art asylum puts a heavy price on their junk. Tons of middle aged white people wearing over priced clothing that looks vintage and beards. Everywhere beards!

Fun! This is a cross between the kitschiest thrift store stuff & vintage ephemera, weird items to make assemblage or mixed media art with, never used but preowned art supplies or half used art supplies & garage hardware parts and tools. Books & magazines. Craft kits, cigar boxes, fabric, yarn, everything is here & inventory constantly changes. If you like to dig & ponder you must visit but give yourself at least 2 hours. They take donations of stuff.

Ive been visiting the asylum for years. Thankfully, in this asylum, the patients run the place. From baby doll parts, to a. Can of puffalump farts, and everything in betwixxed. Check it out when you can, if you dare. Ask for the owner, Ramona Brady, and tell her all about your cat stories. She just loves that.

Texas Art Asylum is, without doubt, THE MOST FUN place you will ever find if youre doing any type of creative project... anything from helping your child create a Valentine box for school to painting the next Mona Lisa... you want it, Texas Art Asylum has it. Youll find everything from broken china for mosaic, art supplies (some in original package), the most fantastic selection of hundreds and hundreds of old photographs, frames, boxes, doll parts (OMG... you have never seen so many doll parts!), fabric, do-dahs, old jewelry, toys, toys, toys, gardening stuff, boots, games, telephones, lamps, every Happy Meal toy ever made, wood, needlework supplies, tin, scrapbook paper, small antiques, BOOKS, beads, BUTTONS, wire (rusted, new, tangled, neatly wrapped, and every way you can think of), and...and...and... you name it, they have it.They also offer Saturday sales for school teachers (and other non-profits only) where they offer art supplies @ $5 for whatever can be placed in a large brown bag (provided by Texas Art Asylum). These sales have been a tremendous boon to art classes in the public school system as teachers usually pay for art supplies out of their own pocket because of school budgets.Join their Facebook page to get updates of classes offered, art shows and activities at Texas Art Asylum. Sign up for their emailed newsletter for similar information. The two women who own the place are funny, helpful, friendly and just generally make shopping at Texas Art Asylum a delight. Try Texas Art Asylum... I know youll like it!
