Stopped here to have breakfast by the water and have a walk out on the trail. Coming back later with the kayaks because the water looks amazing! Great place to take your dogs for a walk through the woods. The lot was full of boat trailers but we found a spot to park.
Family and I visited Whitehall State Park for the very first time today. We were looking for some trails that were not basic but had some active maneuvering. The trails are marked green (more enjoyable for terrain) and yellow (near the water) to help guide you. The entire walk through is roughly 6 miles so prepare yourself for a long afternoon of nature. The park is well maintained and I look forward to the many more adventures with the wife and my husky boys.
Dont let the three stars keeping you from going. I fished out on the reservoir for 13 hours and had a great time. My problem was the reservoir itself. There was lots of undergrowth in the water. The reservoir needs to be upkept better. There is a 12 mph posted on the mass fish/EPA website so its nice and quiet to fish on. I will probably go back when the lilies and undergrowth arent so thick.
This is a great hike. Easy/moderate. It is lengthy and has a couple of spots to get lost, but nothing to bad. Highly recommend. There are a couple of minor climbs, but its not difficult by any means. Ive hiked this 4 times now and will continue to come back
Beautiful, easy (long) walk around the lake.
Ive only recently discovered this gem. As a paddler, I enjoy going here because there are plenty of nooks and crannies to explore around the perimeter and the islands in the middle of the lake are full of wildlife, providing lots to see. On my last trip I spotted numerous great blue heron, a flock of cormorants, innumerable birds and a beaver feeding on pond lily blooms. In the latter part of the summer the shallower parts of the pond are full of lily pads which restricts any craft with a motor to the open water sections. There is also a walking path that goes around the entire pond, I believe, though Ive never walked it myself.I give this 4 stars instead of 5 because its easy accessibility makes it a popular spot which can get crowded.
Trails have very large tree roots, very hilly. Not good for all walkers!
Good place to go kayak or canoe if youre local. Very tranquil.
Parking was difficult, but lake was great!
Awesome place to go boating, paddle boarding and the likes.
Beautiful! Lovely kayaking - really calm. Greta place to watch the sunset. Didnt see any hiking nearby but the lake is gorgeous.
This is a fabulous place for kayaking and my favorite so far. However, the speed boats and waterskiing make the open water treacherous for many and probably don’t impress the fishermen at all. Speed boats, etc. are prohibited but how to catch them?
Wooded around entire park.
Beautiful park that you can swim at. I highly recommend the reservoir trail hike that goes around the bodies of water, about 7ish miles in length.
First hike here. Good trails but lots of overgrowth in areas. Walked the entire yellow trail and somehow got in 7 miles.
This trail provides great views and great exercise. I saw people swimming in a few spots so check to see if you can swim along the hike.
This is a great place to fish and swim also trail walks.
Took the canoe for a spin today. It was beautiful, but water was very choppy.
Clean. Well marked trails. A fun day
Beautiful! The trails are great and the lake is peaceful.
Parking spots for cars with trailers. Wide lake. Hard to sail out of due to narrow cove at launch.
Good long distance hike about 8-9 miles around the lake
A clean local waterway with ample fishing, hiking, biking opportunities. Four season access adds to this well managed Park. If you kayak be sure to check out the small canals between islands on the west side. Otherworldly.
This is a great to take your boat and catch Bass! There is also some spots to shore fish at the opposite end to the main entrance. The only drawback is there are a clubs using the lake for their fishing tournaments and they have first priority launching their boats and this happens just about every weekend during the summer months.
Very nice place for hiking. Easy trail along the rim of a beautiful lake.
We especially love how people pick up Buffys bonbons and leave them carefully bagged in attractively colored plastic bags.
Just a beautiful place
Nice place to kayak if you like open water. There are a couple of islands near the boat dock that were fun to explore. Lots of motor boats, but all were respectful of kayakers.
Explore more than just the main loop trail. There is awesome views.
Beautiful lake with a 6 mile trail along the shore. Remains of old mills nearby.
Loop trail around the reservoir is worth the trip and good for both hiking and mountain biking. Too bad swimming is not allowed.
Nice place to fish for bass. Lots of kayaks too.
Love coming here when Im in town. Better than the state park if you have acsess to boats/kayaks of some sort.
Great clean and beautiful lake. Its normally fairly quiet. There are a bunch of islands to boat to. Watch out for rock island, its mostly underwater. Theres a great trail all around the lake if youre up for a long hike. The lake is mostly surrounded by trees with hardly any houses visible, which truly adds to the beauty.
Beautiful lake with great hiking trails and scenic spots along the water. Easily spend a day here.
Went here 10 months ago,To do some research, It was incredibly Buggy but thats obvious with the water right next to you,I did a tree knock & walked a BIT further & got a tremendously creepy feeling & left very quickly, as I am a women & didnt have A form of PROTECTION on me at the time. But I was & still am VERY INTRIGUED About that feeling so I definitely plan on goin back.. There were a few STRANGE looking tree formations which led me to the tree knock..
WhiteHall was ok. But very windy, put a big chop on water. Found some places to fish without a lot of wind. Would have been better with less wind.
Good place
My nearly everyday go-to Park for a great hike with the dog and ability to cool off in the heat in nice clean water. Lots of trails, a boat ramp with plenty of trailer parking, and a small beach with a couple new picnic tables thanks to an Eagle Scout. Very popular for kayaking and fishing. Weirdly, no trash barrels, so please plan to carry out what you carry in
Great spot for kayaking. We walked a bit around the edge on the hiking trails. Will return.
Great kayaking, canoeing, fishing. Quiet peaceful just large enough for excursions. Islands, blueberries picked from the boat, incredible biodiversity, birds, insects, plants, hiking trail.Love this place early in the morning.
Very nice place to fish. Peaceful
It is a wonderful place to hang out and have fun and relax
Its just beautiful.
Went ice fishing here and had a blast. Big pond. Big presence of state wildlife officers but they were friendly and all of our licenses were up to date. He was able to let us know of any soft spurs in the ice and wish us good luck. Good mix of fish. Will definatly be going back this season.
Good to hike/trail run, but the terrain may not be safe for all runners. Depends on your ability/comfort level. Im not hard core and definitely had to walk some spots. Its over 7 miles with great views.A lot of sections of the trail go right next to peoples backyards and it could be marked a little better. This was my first time and, on multiple occasions, I ended up on different trails so had to backtrack. Several times, at trail branch-offs, the correct trail wasnt marked until I was 10 yards onto the correct path. This got frustrating after a while, but I eventually figured my way and now I know which turns to take.Bottom line is you really cant complain because access is completely free, it is a good workout, and has some great views. You can also swim, fish, and boat here.
Big lake, lots of greenery in water, decent fishing.
Loved the beach and scenery. Parking was ample with a drop off area. Bathrooms close with showers outside and snacks if needed. We brought a cooler and ate Alaskan crab legs on the shore!
We visit Whitehall with our friends on a regular basis. The lake is always a relaxing time; fantastic at sunset. Its usually pretty easy to get our boat in and out of the water...except when the kayakers block the boat ramp!
This lake is one of Hopkintons hidden treasures for hikers, boaters, and dog lovers. There is also fishing, just no swimming. If you like privacy, great views, and a little greenery with your outdoors, this is a great place to relax for the day without the crowds.
Loved it....
Good hiking trails. Trail head signs said 6 miles around the lake. My phone app said closer to 9 miles when done. Some of this could be from going down wrong trail and back tracking. Trails could be better marked.
Good spot for a walk around the water. Trails are fairly easy to follow. There is a hike-in picnic area with new picnic tables.
Nice public park with parking and a boat launching area. Nice shaded hiking trails and a few picnic tables.
There is a beautiful hike around the lake
Nice place to hike
We visited with friends to do a trail walk to some water and back. It was a nice easy trek, we dont hike much but it was very friendly. The trail was nice and wide and easy to follow.
Fantastic Trail Marking, easy to find your way around the lake. Wonderful spots to take a breather while hiking.
Nice trail along the lake, good for 3 to 4 hours walk. Beautiful lake for boating.
Nice water for kayaking. Not busy on weekdays. Weekend days expect more visitors.
Always a go-to for a local forest walk.
Grew up here, I wish it wasnt so crowded or dirty now, but Ill always love it.
Nice trails, marked with paint spots on trees. Lots of wildlife. Watch out for jerks that dont leash their dogs.
Great place to go if you are a outdoors kind of person
Small state park that leads to a really nice pond. Foliage looked great.
Great. Beautiful day!!!
Easy hiking trails and beautiful scenery
The nice access point to Lake Whitehall, parking was free and the boat landing is a nice feature.
A little buggy but very beautiful and I saw a horse!!
This place is so pretty! Walk right along the water nearly the whole time.about a 3 to 4 hour hike so wear good shoes!
Really beautiful place to take a quick hike with dogs or the kids.
Nice walking trails.
Nice lake. Pretty and good size. No facilities where I parked.
Fishing hole
This is a really nice park - both for boating/kayaking/paddleboarding and for hiking.
Good trails with ton of blazes and a good amount of hills. Excellent for running.
Attempted to use google maps to get to a funeral at nearby evergreen cemetery, but it totally failed. So I chose this adjacent location instad, but gmaps also failed. I half-assed it and luckily got there in time, no thanks to gmaps.
Lots of bugs but beauty and location are perfect and I got bug spray
Great hiking trail around the lake - about 6-7 miles.
Great place to relax and fish .. especially on a pontoon boat
Fish, hike, canoe, mountain bike, winter ice fishing. Great place.
Hidden gem for hiking and fishing
Quiet & pretty.
No parking fee. Great trails for walking
Grew up here. Beautiful trails and connects to the Upton state park.
Sweet place.
Great lake for recreational boating activities. Not a great swimming lake due to the algae but lots of fishing and kayaking
Cool place
