So many people work daily to keep this theater up and running. It has a great following of local Hilo residents. It is almost an art house, showing the important films...not the big block buster movies. I have always been a fan of this wonderful old theater.

Though the place is a bit funky, it hosts a lot great events. I love attending the Rocky Horror Picture Show here every Halloween! I also enjoy the Burlesque show theyve been having for the past 3 years. Hopefully someday theyll be able to raise enough money to put in air conditioning.

The Palace Theater has a wide range of events monthly. We have been to concerts, movies, musicals, and other special events here. We appreciate the vegan options at the concession stand, and the reasonable prices of all of the food items. The theater is beautiful with antique seats, adding charm but making them smaller than the newer theater chains. For those that get warm easily, bring a simple hand fan when you visit. The theater doesnt have air conditioning, but is fundraising for the upgrade. This is a wonderful community theater with friendly staff.

Love this place. Old, quaint, held together with love and layers of paint. No air conditioning, but that can be remedied - just contribute to the fund for a new air conditioner. Dutiful, caring staff and the players and presenters give it their all. A worthy institution deserving of everyones support.

Its an old theater that has a wonderful history. It needs a little work. Lacks air conditioning. And is marvelos. We had the pleasure of enjoying Willy Wonka there. What a treat. Come enjoy if you are able. Take a trip to old Hawaii Theater and let the ambiance of the past entertain you.

The most ancient place on Earth..actually its been around so many years its a part of Hilos history as much as anything can be.sit back in this theatre and you can see yourself in the 1920s..I saw the Exorcist here as a child and Im still damaged..we sat in front row. So ...dont sit in the front row. A place never to miss when in town..truly original..

The palace theater, I have been there many times and each encounter has left me leaving astounded and going home with many good memories. You can go with your friends to see a drama, or you could take your kids to see a performance about mythical creatures, or if youre a parent and your kid volunteers you can see them perform.

Dont miss the rare opportunity to visit this lovely historic theater in the heart of downtown Hilo! While most of the once-abundant early cinema houses have been razed to make way for cookie-cutter multiplexes, the Palace Theater is one of the few examples left, and it contains many of the elements that characterize the style: opulent exterior, painted ceiling, colorful tiled walls, decorative cascading fountains in the lobby, live organ music, and giant velvet curtains. The Palace offers a great selection of independent films, Hollywood Golden Age classics, silent movies, and live concerts. Arrive early so you can hear Ron Mazurowski play local Hawaii classics like the Hilo March on the mighty pipe organ. Nearby street parking is free and plentiful at most times, especially in the evening. Conveniently close to a number of restaurants, cafes, and the Tsunami Museum. As of July 2017, no AC (which I didnt mind, but some may want to stick to an evening show and dress lightly), though installation plans are in the works. Although some restoration projects are ongoing, the Palace already shines as truly glorious example of a bygone era of moviegoing. Please visit and support this amazing landmark!
