This used to be nice to take the kids, till they instated resident only access and non-resident seasonal passes that no longer are available. Really sad that access to such natural resources are tied up away from the general public. I can see a small fee for access that would benefit the city, but to have such restrictions are very discouraging.

PRETENTIOUS NO FUN ZONE. Dont bother with the beach. Its way too expensive. You have to pay to park ($15 per hour) and pay to use the beach ($10 per person). Also, you cant bring any floaties or snorkeling equipment in the water or the lifeguards will kick you out. They say its a safety hazard. They do all of this only do this to discourage non-locals from using it. I find that very sad.

It might sound silly, but this is one of my favorite places anywhere. I lived for 2 years in Highland Park (before moving to the south of France), and not a week would go by without me visiting the park. It was my favorite place to swim in Lake Michigan, and it always brought me such peace and tranquility. Walking along its boards, even in winter, is a true pleasure. And you can even take yoga classes! Dont miss out.Parking for residents only.

So the place is really nice and clean. We went there last Sunday 8/25/19. I can understand $10 entry per person but $15 per hour for parking is a ripoff. For parking alone you have to spend almost $100 per day to enjoy the Beach. We like the place but prices are Chicago Downtown (not that I like Downtown )

Wonderful Beach.....but to be honest... outside of the breakwaters, and new bathroom it was fine before. By tearing out the sidewalk and putting in the boardwalk....you can now walk a leashed dog and sit on a bench any more. This was different from what the Park District presented to the community when they even had a leashed dog walker in the slides.

I love this place. Its perfect for residents of HP, and because you are required a resident sticker for your car, it keeps non locals deterred. However, if you are a non local and want to experience the beach you need to pay the city for a beach pass. The city does an excellent job keeping Rosewood clean and safe. Its family friendly. The one thing I wish the city would allow is allowing licensed dog owners of HP to use the north cove. No one swims there. Just a thought.

Very nice place to hang out in. Parking is expensive for non-residents ($15/hour), BUT other beaches we attempted to go to were $15 PER PERSON just to be there, and then you either had to park away and pay for a shuttle or walk 20 minutes from the closest public parking lot.... no shady beach spots so bring beach umbrellas or your little sun tent. There are bathrooms and an outside shower to rinse off. Park for kiddos is covered for shade. Not a good beach choice for those who cant do steps.

The beach and the park were great. My issue was the cost. I came here because I thought it would be a fun and inexpensive way to spend a summer day. However, between paying for parking and beach access it was $50! If it wasnt for the fact that I didnt want to disappoint my kids I would have left.Ill stick to my normal beaches in the city from now on.

Very nice beach. Its incredibly clean and well kept. The staff is very friendly. Theres a fun playground for kids. The shoreline is a bit rocky, but not too bad. The lake is obviously very cold, but its very refreshing on a hot day. You only pay to park, but you can drop people off and then park at the Ravinia train station for free, which is about a mile away. Then everything is free.

Review №48

Whereas paying to enter a park is still acceptable, paying this much for a park with this little is not really. The only reason I was here, was because Chicago Botanical Garden had an Art Festival that made it a beehive with long queues, noise, etc. I needed a quiet and calm garden park to demonstrate and teach camera operation to someone. The cost for Rosewood Park was $30 for 2 hours; ther same as for the nearby botanical garden, but the views are poor by comparison. There are no restrooms in the park. There is a beach attached tho ther park, but it costs a further $10 per person to enter, and only there can one go to the restroom. So you decide to pay the $40 for 4 hours, to have a picnic with your kids and then step into dog poop left by some kind but careless animal lover. The kids wasnt to play on the beach, so its $40 more, and after 4 hours, you are left wondering what ever happened to the days when parks were places whe you stopped and enjoyed a time of connecting with nature, free of cost...Maybe this is the local populaces way of saying Youre not really welcome in our neighborhood. Or maybe its capitalisation on the rare little cliff feature overlooking the lake in the otherwise mostly cliffless Illinois beaches.Whichever it is, I would think twice before returning (which seems to be the exact desired effect).

I grew up 2 blocks from this park but have been away for years. Great improvements! New steps down from the parking lots are nice and will last a long time. Theres now a boardwalk going to Cary Avenue beach. The 2 new swimming coves look nice and new rock breakwater protects the beach from erosion. Cary Avenue beach has beautiful new interpretation center and bathrooms. A new walkway from the parking lots heads back up hill to Rosewood park. Nice new benches too.

This came from the estate of Julius Rosenwald, an instrumental figure in the rise of the Sears retail empire. As such, he could have any place at all to call home. He choose this site, on Lake Michigan. His landscape designer was Jens Jensen, prominent in his own field. There remains a stone bridge, curved on the bottom, placed by Jensen as a means of tying nature and mankind into one. Quite nice.

This was the worst beach I have ever been to in my life. Flies and gnats everywhere. I got bit several times. They charge $10 for the beach and $15 for parking. There is a white lady who sits at walkway....basically treating you like a child. And she also called the parking guy who will give you a ticket even when the lot is empty. The beach is flavorless, boring and a waste of $25. Dont waste your time.
