It WAS a great place to walk, but not anymore! Apparently HUNTING IS ALLOWED IN BELLS NECK!!! Seems absolutely absurd so many people utilizing the area recreationally, not to mention the many homes in the area. I took my dog there for an early morning walk 2 days ago, and was shocked to hear gunfire RIGHT NEAR ME at 6:23 in the morning!!! I screamed out for fear that myself or my dog could be shot, and I hightailed it outta there. Heard more gunfire the whole walk back to my car. Why would Harwich encourage the public to hike there while simultaneously allowing hunting, and in such a small area with homes all around??? It is OUTRAGEOUS! PICK ONE OR THE OTHER BEFORE SOMEONE DIES!!!

What a gem! incredible trails around a lake, some linking up to the cape cod rail trail. very intuitive even though they aren’t all marked. quiet, gorgeous place. this is my dog’s second home. the herring run is awesome too.

Great spot for a trail walk/run, enjoy the nature & beauty of this preserved area on Cape. Great for bird lovers, Ive seen: swans, osprey, herons, hawks and I wouldnt doubt there might be an eagle in the area with the large ponds and active herring run.I stumbled upon this spot off of the bike path. Its usually very quiet, only pass by a few people while Im there.Dog friendly, just make sure to clean up after them, keep them away from the waterfowl and be aware of the potential encounter with a coyote. Ive never had a run in while walking my dogs, only when running solo. Its technically their home so...try to stay calm, dont approach them, if you have a small child or dog carry them and make sure to be aware of your surroundings. I would recommend that you avoid visiting at dawn/dusk - it was early afternoon when I had my encounter in the spring, think I might have been unintentionally getting too close to the den that potentially had a recent litter of coyote pups. I didnt feel threatened or like I was about to be attacked it was just closely monitoring me from a small distance until I was out of the area.

Good hiking trails. Paths need some trimming as the overgrowth is infringing on the trails. Nice views of ponds and the Herring river.
