It was a beautiful historic mansion, and we visited on the perfect fall day! The whole town has such a history, and this house was no exception. I was surprised to see that much of the furniture (and clothing) were original to the house, which is such a rarity with restored historic home. It was also interesting to see that the family had live in servants since this home is both in America (where that rarely happened except perhaps on the east coast), and the house was built at the time live in servants were falling out of fashion. This house is truly unique, and well worth the trip out there. I would love to go again and spend the night!

The Rockcliff Mansion was an amazing experience. I went with my family while on a vacation in Hannibal. This Mansion is absolutely remarkable. The architecture and furniture is gorgeous. Plus a majority of the house is original from the early 1900s. Our tour guide Juan who owns the Mansion was very knowledgeable and patient. He answered all of our questions and appeared genuinely interested in the history behind the house. I would definitely recommend this historical site to anyone.

Booked a group tour with Juan as a stop on the Hannibal Trolley. Everyone in our party of 18 thoroughly enjoyed it! Juan was also our tour guide and was very informative about the property as well as local history. They are still in the process of refurbishing the exterior, and Im sure in the end it will be the exquisite mansion it was in the day. The property is also a B&B, which would be fun to do to get the full feel of the mansion. Definitely a must see while youre in Hannibal!

As a young boy I saw this Mansion Daily on my Courier Post Newspaper Route. Mrs. Knighton, a daughter of Mr. Cruickshanks lived next door in the Mansion that had been moved next door with teams of Horses, and logs, in Preparation of the New Cruickshank Mansion. Mr. and Mrs. Cruickshank, Lumber Barrons of the Cruickshank Lumber Company located at Main and North Street till I was 10 years old. Mr. Henry Riedel was the final Proprietor of Cruickshank Lumber Company.Rockcliffe Mansion was restored to its original structure, minus the house porch in the 1970s Today it is a Bed and Breakfast, and museum that may be seen by modern day tourist. This is a Grand sight of the American Past as seen today, and a wonderful example of Americana and Wealth in earlier times. Mark Twain himself, gave speeches, as a spokesman from Hannibal, and a friend of the Cruickshank family. History may be witnessed many times over as the Cruickshank Era is studied, and vast amounts of wisdom spring forth! A must see!!!

Just amazing inside of this Cruikshank Family 13,500 sq. ft. mini palace overlooking the Mississippi. Most original 1900s artifacts in addition to the decor and finishes still in tack and usable after all these years. Few homes back then had indoor plumbing let alone running hot and cold water and thermostat controlled hot water heat. Not exactly sure but were told of it having 6 baths and 9 bedrooms and even a ballroom. Its also a current B&B with tours that will make your jaw drop.

This place is spectacular. My wife and I have stayed in a number of B&Bs over the years, but never anything quite like this. Built around 1900, virtually everything inside is original to the home - from Tiffany chandeliers and windows to furniture, rugs, books - even original hybrid electric/gas fixtures and original plumbing that works. Ever taken a shower with plumbing from 1900? It’s like being in a time machine. The tour was fascinating. This was a unique experience.

My husband and I stayed at Rockcliffe Mansion in early August 2019 for our first trip to Missouri. Not being a true “B&B Girl” I have to say it was one of the best lodging experiences I’ve ever had. (And I’m in the travel industry so I travel A LOT.) The house, built in the Georgian Revival style of the era is a literal historic time capsule! Our stay started with a one-hour tour of the mansion which still boasts many of its original furniture, wall coverings, lighting fixtures, bathroom fixtures, books, clothing and personal artifacts belonging to the John J. Cruikshank, Jr., family. Cruikshank was a lumber baron who built the home as a showplace for his family’s wealth and hearing the story of how this mansion came to be is important to the experience you’ll have. The amazing thing is how long the home sat empty and that it and its contents were not completely destroyed by looters or even the city of Hannibal! Owners, Warren & Juan have restored the interior and there is ongoing restoration to the exterior now aimed at maintaining the mansion in its original turn-of-the-century state. Warren & Juan were friendly and engaging but the best part of meeting them was the AMAZING breakfast prepared for us on Saturday morning before we checked out! And, if you’re a piano player like me, they were gracious enough to allow me to play a tune on the Steinway Grand piano in the mansion’s music room.

The place is and is going to be even more amazing. I wish they had more funding. I want to qualify what I say next with I hope you still go. The lady that gave the tour at the end was very informative, friendly and polite. However, the man that gave the tour at the beginning was rude (raising his voice and condescending) to one of the others on the tour when she barely touched a door to see behind it and it came ajar off the doorstop. He embarrassed her in front of everyone. Im wondering how the no touching policy on tour works for the B&B. It wasnt as if shed touched the Tiffany. That said, people are more important than things. Maybe he had a bad day or he needs to leave the PR to someone else or maybe take some anger management courses. I would not stay at the B&B if he was there. His behavior was frightening to say the least.
