This is a very large and modern National Park Service Visitor Center. There is no entrance fee to visit the park or to see the Visitor Center. They have a museum about the history and culture of the area, a free 25 minute film about the park and Northwest New Mexico region, a bookstore, bathrooms, water filling station, an outdoor patio with benches and tables, and a half-mile trail outside the Visitor Center. The rangers on staff are super knowledgeable and available to give information about which trails to hike and how to see areas of the park. Trail guides, park maps, and Junior Ranger workbooks are also available here. Check the official website or call ahead to see when ranger-led programs are taking place!
Ranger was very helpful in recommending sites to see in the park and providing trail maps and a map of the monument. Bathrooms were also very clean.
Just like you would expect it any National Park Visitor Center, the staff and Park Rangers at The Visitor Center were fantastic about giving information regarding the various different trails that could be hiked with in this huge National Park. But if youre going to visit the national parks you do not necessarily need to stop at the visitor center before entering any of the trails here.
Very helpful park rangers. Nice gift shop. Be sure and watch the movie.
Great views from this place, and it looks like it is a brand new place.
Nice museum with history and geology of the area. New and modern facility with a small picnic area. Visitor center is located right off I-40 at exit 85. Actual park features are several miles from visitor center.
Excellent place to stop and rest or relax. Clean restrooms. Great information about the area.
Beautiful overlooks. Nice trails. Nice picnic areas.
Amazing place bring the kids bring rations and cameras. Super cool ranger statuon! Free cave permits. Lots of fun to utilize our beautiful american lands this way!
Beautiful visitor center, helpful and informed rangers. Information on the monument as well as other sites in the area. Maps, trail guides, tourist information is available as well as a picnic area and restrooms.
Big rock.
Clean, friendly stop on the 40 with room to explore the displays. A little easier of a stop if traveling with kids.
Great stop along the 40! If you have kids, ask about the Jr Ranger program.
It was closed but what a neat Nat Park, if you wanna see what a huge lava flow looks like and you dont want to fly to HI this is the place for you. The ancient lava flows are a bit dangerous if your not sure footed, lots of cracks and lava tubes to fall into.
Fun hike at Lava Falls. Nice long stretches of road on 117 for biking. Well maintained visitors center.
Beautiful over look, bathrooms immaculate, super helpful staff. Awesome!
Very nice and informative visitor center explaining the lava flow. Beautiful arch located south of the VC.
I dont give 5 stars for anything.
Great place to visit if you are planning on visiting the area. Has a number of day trip plans that people can use to visit nearby sights.
Beautiful park and excellent rangers. A+

Check in here before caving to get your permit.

Very nice
The facility is nice and clean. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
Love this place. Always staffed with knowledgeable folks, and equipped with current local weather/road conditions. Free caving permits for areas covered by the NPS/BLM/NFS districts out here. Super clean bathrooms and parking/picnic area. Camping and Travel information also available. No over-night parking is my only complaint, but understandable. Also, really great gift shop inside!
