What a beautiful place!! The people who work here are super friendly, the bathrooms are clean, and the trails are all pretty well maintained. Today we went on the Diane Gabriel trail, which is only half a mile, and is definitely worth hiking up to the look out point, and there is a bench at the top. You will definitely want to do Cap Rock trail, which is about 1 mile long, and has some of the most stunning views of rock formations, and even a natural bridge. The last hike we did, and definitely worth it, was the Kinney Coulee trail, which takes you all the way down to the bottom of a beautiful canyon, and is also about 1 mile. We are watching the sun set here now, and I can hear the beautiful sound of coyotes singing in the distance. What a wonderful place:)

If youre passing through, I really recommend a visit here. Want to literally see archaeological digs happening as you drive through amazing, beautiful badlands to your campsite (if youre camping)? Check this park out. Great hiking, too. The campground that people with campers/trailers/RVs can stay in is nice - campsites arent too separated by physical barriers or anything, but thats ok, you still have space. From hiking further into the park, I have to imagine that the sites that are tent only are awesome! Gotta get water at the visitor center though, fyi, and its a very informative visitor center so thats one of those good problems you hear about. A day visit to see the Badlands of Montana, an overnight (or over-several-nights) visit, whatever - check this one out.

Very small RV campground in Cains Coulee area of park. Lovely setting with fluted hills all around. Excellent disc golf course and wonderful drive up into the badlands of park. Only downside is that the ONLY water spigot is at the visitor center 1.5 miles from the campground and several miles from the tent sites. They are currently 9-2020 installing water lines to the RV camp area.

What a great place, I cant believe people arent talking about this place more! We had already been to Badlands National Park and Theodore Roosevelt National Park so I was afraid this would be a little too repetitive. I was very wrong and Im glad we spent the extra time to see this place. We were also very happy that this place was dog friendly too, our dog loved this place also! Caprock trail was a short but really enjoyable hike, and the Kinney coulee trail was very neat but a bit longer than they mentioned. Perhaps because we lost the trail one or twice but met up with it again quickly. Not a lot of shade of course so come prepared for that. Definitely worth the extra time and/or mileage.

Very clean and well kept park thats free to state residents. Offers beautiful views, miles of hiking and cycling trails, several park managed camp site areas and a large disc golf course. I go here frequently to play Disc golf but sadly the course is temporarily shut down due to a construction project running through most of the park and right down the middle of the disc golf course. I wouldnt expect the course to open back up until sometime in 2021 but the park remains open for other activities.

Most amazing park Ive ever been to. As a geologist, this is heaven on earth. There is so much to do, since there are no trails. I could spend a week here and not cross my own path. A must-go-to for any adventurist.

This is a very unique park with beautiful badland canyon scenery. There is terrific ½ mile nature trail with a trail head in the middle of the rustic tent sites up a very steep (15-20 degrees) dirt road. The trail goes into a badlands canyon that allows you to experience the beautiful rock formations up close and personal. Not for children under 5 or seniors with any kind of mobility issues as some of trail is steep and slippery. We most enjoyed the walk but wish the park provided self-guided tour maps of the trail to coincide with the numbered signs. We could not find any maps ourselves at the information kiosk. We stayed at rustic tent campsite 20 which had its own very clean vault toilet and private location far away from anyone. There was no drinking water nearby. It also had great views. Two mule deer came walking by in the evening. The driveway to the site was very steep and not for low hanging cars. Our minivan did fine with its higher clearance. While we loved the site, we were most surprised that it rained all night when we were there despite this being a desert area. The rain made it extremely treacherous driving out the next morning on the very slippery, muddy 300 yard driveway up a steep 20 degree hill. We were very lucky to get out without being stuck in the mud for several days. Most of the driveway is not visible from the main dirt road so you could be stuck for days there until it dried out. It reminded me of the scenery in the Australian outback. Thus we recommend you avoid campsite 20 if there is rain in the forecast or unless you have a 4 wheel drive truck. Otherwise it is a wonderful campsite. Most of the other rustic sites have flat, long driveways but these often fill up fast. Overall, this is a great campground for tents and small van RV’s. We highly recommend it and it was one of our favorite places on our 2 week trip.

I visited here with my Son, Daughter and Aunts on Wednesday, July 22, 2020. It is a very beautiful park. Very peaceful, with beautiful views. There is a small visitor center with some information on the park and facilities. There is a Frisbee golf course here. Lots of trials. You really need a full day or two to really enjoy this park in its entirety. I would highly recommend and I would like to go back.

An incredible place tucked in behind Glendive. It kind of reminded me of canyonlands NP in Utah. Great place to xp with enough hiking to take up a couple of days or more. Alltrails only has 1 hike listed here currently but they have many more trails and nice maps available. Do the Hungry Joe trail, one of the coolest hikes Ive done in a while, puts you right through knarly badland, over green shrubby mesas, and gives you land-before-time type views.

Great hikes, overviews, underviews, picnic and camping areas. For all the parks Ive been to have never seen a fossil in the park until we visited Makoshika. Several nice shorter hikes that take you through areas that hold a fossil, a natural bridge and overviews. Really nice rangers that answered all our questions and oh yeah they have a slamming cool disc golf course as well. Million dollar views from the primitive campsites! Do not skip this park for its natural beauty and the museum was even open!!!

We are visiting all the way from flushing Ohio and we show up and the park is closed. They had one trail open and it was nice but I know there is much more to the park than that. It is ashame that they close the entire park for roadwork. You would think there would be a better process than that. Perhaps a small section at a time. There really isnt anything else nearby to do either.

This is Montanas largest State Park. It is all Badlands and home of ancient dinosaurs. There is camping here but it is dry camping. So you have to bring your own water. There is a Visitor Center and you can get water here. There are lots of great hiking trails here. But it is wise to stay on the trails for two reasons. The first reason is that it could be hazardous if you walked off Trail and fell from a cliff. The second reason is thats some of the landscape is very delicate and that if you leave a footprint it will be there for thousands of years. Also there are rattlesnakes in the area so staying on the trails is wise.If you like the Badlands then you will like the state park. Photographers will will enjoy it. There are lots of colors especially at Sunset and in the morning. Hiking trails are not very long and very scenic. Its a great place to visit the try not to leave any footprints.

We had to camp somewhere and N Dakota had a burn ban. So we headed West to Makoshika. This geographic wonder is just off the interstate and through the small charming town of Glendive, MT. We showed up on a Friday night at the end of July and there were plenty of spaces available. You can pay at the campsite with the envelope deposit system so bring change. We paid $28 for one night as out-of-state residents. Sandflies were very intense when we first arrived. Once we got bug spray and a fire going the bugs calmed down. Facility was very clean. Not much shade early morning so expect an early morning in a hot tent. Sunset was beautiful. Stores and gas station close by in town. Pit toilets exceeded expectations and was very clean. All the site was well maintained.
