Great course! Played in November a few days after a lot of rain and the course was nice and dry. Greens were a little rough in the shaded areas, and some bunkers still had standing water. For the price it was better than expected though.

We played Hunting Hawk today. Firstly, the name is very apt. We saw plenty of Hawks and many of them were hunting. It seems like the hawks in the area are quite cool with people around so you can get pretty close to them. The course was in really good shape. The layout is challenging with many cool hole designs. It is a fun course and I’d gladly play it again. They have electric carts which is a bonus. Much quieter. The only complaint I’d have is the greens have weeds? Or sprouts? Intermixed on them? Is this Poa Annua? I don’t know. They shave down with the mower pretty well but I did have one putt get knocked offline because of it.Great course, nice layout. I’d definitely play it again.

I am sorry that I have to post this review. Played yesterday understanding the posting on their website that the greens had been aerated on September 1. When checking in saw the notice about 2 putt max recommended. Then when I got on the first green, could not believe what really bad shape of the greens. Very little grass and mostly just packed sand for all 18 holes - maybe the worst greens I have played on in my 30 years of golf. Two suggestions so players are forewarned:1. Modify the posting on the web site to include the 2 putt max recommendation with the aeration notice so players will be forewarned with some idea of how bad the greens are right now.2. Reduce the greens fee while the greens are in such bad shape.I have always enjoyed playing Hunting Hawk throughout the years, but not sure Ill be back after this experience without at least being given a buyer beware notice.

I played a round out at Hunting Hawk on Thursday afternoon with my son as an early Fathers Day get together and thoroughly enjoyed it! We were a bit hesitant after seeing all of these one star reviews but it was far from a one star experience. They even have a senior discount card which saved me a few bucks! It seemed pretty busy, and since we are beginners, we were worried that we wouldnt feel comfortable playing with a large crown or another group. They paired us up with two other golfers who play at Hunting Hawk frequently and we really enjoyed the company. The staff was friendly both at check-in and in the grill, even when we were caught bringing our own beer in a personal cooler. The grill manager mentioned to us that we couldnt bring our own due to ABC Laws and they even pointed out the signs to us that are posted around the clubhouse so it wasnt a big deal. We will do better next time! The golf course was in awesome shape, probably the best we have played around the city within the last few months. Greens rolled well and fairways were beautiful even though a little wet following the rain on Wednesday (We dont like cart path only - bad legs). The driving range was closed because of the rain so that was disappointing but we just ended up putting before our tee time. We had such a great time that we even booked another tee time for Fathers Day with another father and son to do it all again and we are definitely looking forward to it (weather permitting).Thank you Hunting Hawk for a great experience and we look forward to frequenting your club in the near future. And to all of the golfers out there like us who enjoy reading reviews before going to a business, you might miss a great experience due to some people who only leave bad reviews, dont be mislead and be sure to check this place out!

I love this course and the folks working the counter and handling tee times are super nice. Beer was cold. I’m a lady that can hold my own on a course and frequently would join a group of gentlemen. All the people at the course welcomed me and I look forward to my next outing (next week!)

Staff is really nice with the pro shop being well stocked, sand traps need to be given a little more loving attention with the fairways being in great shape. Greens look pretty, but need some immediate and dire attention as putting on them is like trying to putt on the surface of the moon given the numerous small holes on them

To all the One Star reviewers regarding rudeness of the staff. I have been a member for quite a while and I am not employed by Hunting Hawk. I have never known the staff to be rude. If you break the alcohol rules, you will be spoken to about that. There are several signs. If you can read, you should know better. If a marshal tells you that you need to pick up your playing pace, it is because you are holding up multiple groups behind you. You should not have to be told that, all you have to do is look behind you to see other players waiting for you to finish hole after hole. The marshal is not being rude, YOU are, to all the groups of players behind you. If you want to play an inexorably slow round, go to Sycamore Creek.

Was out there yesterday with a group of friends. We were treated horribly by the lower tier staff. We were greeted by a dude threatening to search our coolers, and later the same dude came out and harassed my group on the golf course. He said he warned us twice already, only to be corrected that he had in fact warned the group behind us instead. In both encounters the dude was rude, and appeared to be on a power trip. I have played the Hawk for 15 years now, used to be a member in a regular Saturday group, and I will not be returning. Any business is a reflection of how it treats its customers, and on this you failed us yesterday. Will not be returning for some time, if ever. Your actions yesterday spoke volumes. Disappointed, I remain. -Moorefield

Its hard to imagine myself playing this course again. The Hollows is right down the road with better management. Even though Hunting Hawk keeps their Fairways slightly more maintained, the staff makes it fail in comparison. To the owner : get a new Marshall, keep the driving range open and stop trying to pair two sums with other twos. I dont care to play with others when I golf other than whom Im already currently with. I understand that its to speed things up. Please stop ruining the experience for my friend and I. Thank you for reading and understanding in advance.

Love the course. Always plays well and the staff is great. Food is decent and not overpriced. It seems like every whole here has a very distinct personality. The course will offer you a variety of options to test your skills. The relatively flat course but it does have water introduced on many holes. You should have ample opportunity to use your driver here at 7200 yards.

I am sorry we had a bad experience. This WAS NOT our first time in a 4-some, but it WAS the first time I was rushed to finish a game (starting on hole 2).We played a few weeks ago (somewhere else)with an 8:10 tee time on the first warm sunny day Of the spring. It was crowded—we weren’t told to rush and we had several groups behind us.I did not see the marshal speak to the groups in front of ours who teed up multiple times and caused us to become bottle necked (we also watched the 4-some in front of them hit more than one off the tee when their first shots went in the woods). They probably didn’t get to warm up because the driving range was closed. I hope we were treated the same as the other groups playing on the course and we were not being singled out because there was a female in our party. I hope women are treated equally at hunting hawk.I understand there was a tournament in the morning and they had scheduled a party of 2 on the wrong day so they had to shove them in somewhere. I just wish there was better communication from the start. The group of 2 behind us made a comment (as we waited for the group ahead of us to get far enough ahead), they said “we aren’t here to make friends, we are here to golf”...I wish we had the option for them to play thru. I am not sure if they complained at the beginning because they saw we had a lady in our group and they assumed she was going to suck (she played an incredible game). I think we would have been happy starting on the back-9 or given other options (Like letting the group play thru). What would have happened if we walked? I don’t think there would have been enough time. What if it was a group of 4 ladies? On a brighter note...The cart seemed clean and sanitized from covid-19 which was appreciated.I am sorry this was a bad experience. Maybe everyone is on edge due to the current pandemic, but this is a time where we need to be kind to one another.

Review №24

Very disappointed with this course and the scheduling of tee times. 3 groups of 4 players were followed by a group of 2. This created a bottleneck right at the beginning. The golf director Jeff Staton, was riding around the course moving players around (even after they had already teed off their shots) and telling other groups to play quicker. We were told on the 2nd hole that we needed play quicker, bc we (a group of 4, that included a lady hitting from the ladies tees) played the hole for 20 minutes and holes needed to be completed in 15 minutes. The only problem was the group in front of us was still visible to us and our shots were getting close to them. At one point the group in front of us told us to slow down. Well, we played an unenjoyable paced 8 holes in an hour. We did not get to have fun and watch each other hit any of our follow up shots. unfortunately im not sure we will be returning to play this course. I understand the golf course wants to make money and pack players on the course with tee times on top of each other, but I also paid almost $300 to come here to play with friends and family that I do not get to see very often, and I felt so pressured to hurry through the game. Next time its gonna be Top Golf or another course altogether. The course itself was fair. Ive played nicer for cheaper. At one point i spoke to a couple other really nice guys on the course and they were displeased with how they were treated as well. Their tee times were booked incorrectly and jeff staton made them play the back 9 twice bc there was a tournament starting. I spoke with the jeff, the general manager after finishing the game. Told him about how the first 9 were a disappointment and all he did was offer condolences and said he appreciated that we hurried up. I was very surprised, bc we live in a world right now where customer satisfaction is very relevant, but evidently jeff staton and Huntington hawk feels differently. Hoping that this review helps anyone else avoid the disappointment that we dealt with today.

$65.00 to play this course is robbery. The fairways and greens are in very poor condition and it appears that the course maintained at the bare minimum. It reminded me of the old Spring Lakes, although not quite that bad. I only gave it two stars instead of one because the staff in the clubhouse were pleasant. Play the twilight rates or play elsewhere unless you enjoy overpaying for golf.

Golf course has made it through this hot summer pretty well. Better than some of the others we have played in the RVA. The greens had some spots in them from unfixed ball marks I guess from people not fixing their divots. Pro shop was well stocked and staff was great to work with. Range balls are priced a little high but I guess with the grass tees at the range it is what it is. Overall a good experience. We will definitely be back soon, always a fun course to play.

Review №39

The worst golf course I’ve ever played. It used to be great but they’ve lost all the greens to crab grass and are even cutting the fairways into a links style layout on some holes. It looks like wild hogs have had their way on low areas where it’s extremely wet. Other golf courses in the area aren’t affected like this with all the rain. I don’t know what’s going on there with management but it’s not good. And to make matters worse, they’re not competitive with their pricing. Still higher than most. I wouldn’t pay $10 to play this course now with the conditions there. They should close the course.

Ma
Review №40

Listen, if youre a golfer who shoots under 80 consistently, just dont play this course. Its in the worst possible condition. You never get a reasonable lie and the ball does not react to the golf course in a realistic way. The last round I will ever play there was last week. The greens had so many weeds that every putt just bounced like a game of Plinco on The Price Is Right. The rough was long and challenging, but also became unrealistic at a certain point. I missed a fairway by about a yard with a 2 iron on a par 4...in the first cut...and the rough was up to my knees...I know were not really allowed to complain about rough since its a standard part of all courses, but come on...Several fairways have large patches of rough placed seemingly at random and right down the middle of the fairway. I hit a huge drive (huge for me...it went probably 290) on a par 5 on the front, and ended up right down the middle of the fairway in rough past my ankles...I ended up shooting about 80 or 81, a pretty high score for me. I hit the ball decently all day but I felt ripped off as I drove away from the parking lot. I felt like it was a course that was designed to be unfair. Because the golf course itself lacks character, they resort to tricking golfers into shooting higher scores. Its a sad thing that is true about many public courses, but I had better hopes fro HH.If I could give this course a rating of less than 1 star, I would.

What a disappointment!!! I was a HUGE fan of the Hawk and would often tell my golfing buddies how nice it was. Not now. The fairways looked as if the middle had been stricken by a brush fire and the greens had more holes from ground Hornets than the cup!! Has any maintenance guys been on the 2nd green in the last 5 weeks? Come on. No golf course etiquette by the members and apparently play for $100 a putt because it took forever to play what should have been a 2.5 hour round. Bad form. Has Hunting Hawk just given up and decided to just wait for the developer to come in and level the place? Seems like it. Horrible. Will not be back.
