I would highly recommend this place for 2 things- Fall colors and mile hike trail. The path is unpaved and you get the feel of walking in a dense forest. Im not sure about restrooms but the parking is limited so you need to wait until some car decides to leave. Make sure you have your insect repellent on before you enter. Overall good experience.
Nice rugged trails through old growth maple and oak trees. Lots of small pawpaw trees. Amazing colors in the fall. We like to count the number of trees that have been hit by lightning. This place seems like a lightning magnet.
Great woodsy path close to home and not too strenuous. Fun little hike takes about a hour. The color is gorgeous right now too!
Great hike! Rocky terrain with nice inclines. Wear sturdy shoes.
A great place if you like varieties of trees. Take along a tree reference book to enhance your experience of this untouched, 200-year-old Nationally designated treasure. Not a large place. Trails are easy.
Beautiful dirt trails and many different types of birds and other animals and fauna. Largest collection of Maple trees west of the Mississippi river
Good for a short hike. All under canopy, no sunscreen needed. Creek, forest, highway, and houses are views. Great for neighborhood, but can skip if more than 15 minute drive. Some steep hills, but overall easy.
Beautiful trail. Hardcore hikers would love this!
Ive been hiking at Maplewoods Nature Preserve for 4 decades now. They replaced the bridge leading into the main entrance a few weeks ago. The Preserve as a whole though seems neglected. My daughter noticed how eerily quiet the woods sounded.
Great for trails just remember to wear good show while hiking easy to lose footing
Very pretty trail, definitely make sure you wear some good shoes for hiking, cause theres lots of roots and rocks. Got a good workout on it chasing my dogs down the paths. They had a blast
The trail is a great place to take your whole family and your pet. Our dog loves this trail. And so do i.
Great place for a quick stop to get away for a moment
Great local hike. Nice creek for the kids to play.
This place is not a real hiking trail. Its woods behind some housing area. The trails arentclear also. While there are some areas that are a visible trail you almost make your own pathway. I would not recommend.
This is a great place to get some exercise, hike, walk your dog/s, etc. Ive never seen more than a couple people on the trail at a time. There are a bunch of different routes you can take to extend the trail as long as youd like. Maple Woods and the Missouri Department of Conservation do a good job maintaining the trail. Since I was a kid, this has been a nice, (somewhat hidden) gem in the Northland to take a relaxing walk in nature.
Very lovely nature walk!
Great spot for tree weavin.
Its quiet, tons of birds, great tree trunks for my boys to climb, and awesome trails!
Great for a peaceful walk in the woods.
Fun and very much a natural area! The walking paths are not for the faint of heart to make sure you have good shoes and water as the paths are windy and seem to all connect back and make one big circle that you can turn right and left many times throughout the trails. We took our young kids on an evening hike and it was very fun for them being our first time we didnt travel too far off the trail and was able to make our way back around but I could see how you could easily be there much longer because of all of the optional turns you could make. The trails are not marked with signs or colored arrows as you might find in other nature parks. There is definitely a lot of options for seeing wildlife and bird watching. This nature area is smack dab between neighborhoods, but a nice place for a nature walk!
Nice natural nature trail along the creek in the woods. You can have dogs as long as they are on a leash. I didn’t see any other people while I was there.
Great walking trails that arent overcrowded or dirty!
Beautiful little walk
Neat place for a nature hike
A nice hiking area with good views. Surprisingly tranquil considering its tucked in the middle of a neighborhood and a highway. Several interconnecting path so you can have a variety of hikes each time you go.It can be steep and rocky along some parts of it, so its going to be more of a challenge than a paved walkway, but the views are worth it!Keep in mind that since its all dirt paths it will get muddy after heavy rain and can stay that way for several days depending on how much rain fell. When the leaves turn in the Fall its absolutely gorgeous!
This nature was ok. To many houses near by here. Other than that small trails to follow and good loop a round. Great for the dogs or kids.
Beautiful nature area, trails are primitive and some hills but very manageable, just dont expect to walk this trail in flip flops! If you sit for a while you are bound to see deer, turkey, squirrels and all kinds birds.
Run down and completely abandoned looking. No up-keep of cabins, grounds and certainly not the outdoor pool nor the ramshackled showers!
Nice and quiet!
Beautiful escape, but still inside city limits.
Shaded and peaceful
Very nice moderate hike (some uphill and more of a rough path). Simple loop trail with halfway shortcut. Can still hear the cars nearby though. Houses bordering the back sort of disruptive but could be helpful if there’s an emergency on the trail. Did not see any wildlife besides spiders. Dogs are allowed on trail
A hidden gem 40 acres old growth woods Back in the seventies they had the foresight to preserve it by making highway one go around. Nowadays of course we dont bother to fight to conserve forests
Really enjoyed the trail, weather was perfect for a walk.
Having come here dozens of times for hiking, family outings, and some photography, I really do enjoy the scenery. There is even an about 3 tall waterfall off the main path. Only two cons I notice are that the bridge to the main paths is always covered in an inch of mud, and that the surrounding neighborhoods houses are obviously visible which takes away from the feel of nature. Even so, it is still a good, quiet place to get away from it all.Edit: the main bridge has been cleaned by an unknown force! Thank you to whoever did this, you are the reason I have any hope for humanity left! Upgrading my rating from 4 to 5 stars, as that was my major issue.
Very beautiful place to walk around just make sure to drink plenty of water and dont forget bug spray
Nice trail walk for dog owners.
Good scenery.
Little unclear what the main path was
Nice woods but trails are not marked
Beautiful
Usually pretty clean, nice trails (longer than I expected them to be), and dogs are allowed!
Great place, I enjoy the rugged nature of the area. Gladstone really needs to step up their maintenance of the trails for sure. I was disappointed to find them in such bad condition. Still a fun trail, but had to turn back because I didnt have the right footware that day.
Great jr college beautiful campus. See wildlife crossing the campus
A great place to step out into nature. A small area in the middle of subdivisions and highways. But surprisingly tranquil. Once you leave the parking area, youre quickly enveloped in the quiet and peaceful tree covered trail that meanders thought the nature area.
Aside from the blood magic related items ive found in various places around these wood and the constant sense someone is following me. Pretty pleasant scenery.
Nice peaceful place right in the midst of all the neighborhood traffic in Gladstone. Always clean and taken well care of. Trails arent too long so good place to take the young ones.
Trails and woods
Outdoors Adventure- exciting interactions waiting to be shared and embarring upon many memorable experiences among new and old faces.
Gorgeous area, especially during the Fall color change. The main path up from the parking area has a lot of large ankle twister rocks so be careful!
Very nice e woods, transitioning from an oak forest to maple forest. Trails are good, moderate difficulty.
My favorite place for nature walks
This area is a beautiful place to walk around and enjoy a nature. Theres lots a good trails and lots of wildlife.
Total nature in the middle of civilization. Surrounded by major roads / traffic, yet easy to get turned around in! Very hilly - not handicapped accessible.
Four stars because its the only hiking trail within miles where you can take a leashed dog. Its very woodsy. Some of the trail is rocky or has large tree roots. My 70 year old mother had sore ankles after we hiked it.
Love the river part it is nice place
Very cute walking trail. Enclosed with multiple paths and bird songs to accompany your walk.
Nice quick hike!!
Id never actually been... Ended up walking the whole trail with an ol friend it was blissful.
Very nice hiking trails. Even saw a deer
Gorgeous place for a hike and the waterfalls can be quite breathtaking at times.
Mother nature... Beautiful area!
Wonderful walking trail. Well maintained!
Great fall colors and hiking trails.
Great place to just hang out in peace.
Great to clear your head

Nice little trail. Pretty area.
Nice to take walks
Beautiful.. great place to take the FAMILY
Beautiful, and quiet not a bad place to chill
Beautiful fall colors.
Especially beautiful in the fall!
Poorly leveled trails combined with a loop that takes to along a residential with very little wildlife.
The beach
Great place for a nature walk
