This is a wonderful FREE museum located in my hometown. It tells the history of Campbell County and so much more. There are energy exhibits, a gun collection, homesteading items and very interesting rotating exhibits so there is always something new. I love to take my kids. The staff is helpful and always available to answer any questions you may have about the area. Check it out!

Very nicely put together. Interactive displays, covers the range of early history of the area.

The name is somewhat deceiving as it relates to a rock pile, it’s so much more. It has many long guns and information as it relates to cowboys. Many saddles and horse related items. Information on oil and drilling and people associated with that. And so much more and is free. Highly recommend if you’re in the area. Takes approximately an hour.

Good little museum. Lots of stuff to read and look at. There were hands-on displays for the kids scattered throughout the museum. The A/C was wonderful and the gift shop area was adequate. Thus museum relies on donations and has free admission.

God forbid I pick up a few toys out of a pile in a bin to choose a few souvenirs for my kids! I have 2 in my hand and have the nerve to pick another one up and then put it back and Mr. Snerdly Coronavirus tells me not to touch anything I dont plan on buying! I thought thats why we had all just used sanitizer a couple minutes prior... they can keep their overpriced junk! Way to make people feel unwelcome...if theyre that concerned, they should hang the toys on hooks so they can actually be seen or better yet just close their doors for a while!

This was out first visit here and I must say I was not expecting what we walked into. We assumed it was a Rock Museum based on the name. This museum has a bit of everything in it. A lot of history of Gillette and how things use to be. There is a small gift shop and some items throughout are hands on. We really enjoyed walking through and getting a history lesson. Plus its free.

Open FREE to the public. Weapons display, old west buggies, fossils, native American artifacts, vintage clothing, coal industry information, and tons of history of the City of Gillette are all located in this amazing place. Some things are hands-on and have a picture of hands to let you know. Some things are not as this is a museum after all.Small souvenir area with postcards, coal candy, Wyoming found jade made into jewelry, fans, bonnets, glass bottle soda, and more. Remember that every $ you spend there helps keep this FREE museums lights on.Also a fun spot to take a silly picture for 2 near the entrance. There is also a guest log you can sign when you enter. Brochures near the front that give you other touristy things to do in the area while here.My family had an amazing time here despite not getting to see the whole other building (cranky baby needed food and a nap).

If you like history, this is a fun and interesting museum. Lots of Wyoming memorabilia, as well as recorded letters and pictures of WW II soldiers, a pictorial wall with colorful stories of all the past sheriffs of Gillette. and an area with dinosaur bones and indian artifacts that have been found. Lots of old saddles and wagons of all types on display. They have a train caboose with lots of information inside, 2 early settlement school houses, and a separate building annex where you can view an old blacksmith shop, several old printing presses, and sheep herder wagons. The best local museum Ive ever visited. Well thought out, well organized, it takes you on a journey back in time that connects the local history and culture to that of the country and the world. I was so impressed with the job these folks have done and so appreciative of the time and effort theyve put in to preserve and display these important pieces of our past. This is a must-see if youre in the Gillette, WY area.
