Great mature walk with the kids. Never felt too crowded with people and most people were wearing masks as we crossed each other on the path. We saw many birds on the water and squirrels and rabbits in the brush. Great way to get outdoors even being so close to Sacramento.

Beautiful views from viewpoint out in the wetland west of Franklin Blvd. Saw hundreds & hundreds of migrating ducks & other waterfowl. Dont miss the Visitor Center & the many trails on the east side of Franklin Blvd., or the little trail south from the main parking lot..This preserve is not accessible when the Cosumnes River is flooding in the spring, since Franklin Blvd. floods deep, too. There are no upriver dams on the Cosumnes River -- the only free-flowing major river coming out of the western Sierra -- thus uncontrolled flooding downstream.

Great natural preserve; enjoy short hikes around wetlands and the river bank, easy access, small parking lot for 20-30 cars. Visitor center is currently closed but showcases information about birds and wildlife. Wheelchair accessible, flat trails.

Wow what a place. Boardwalk over delta swamp. Saw a bunch of deer who checked us out and then ran over a marshland field like gazelles, jumping up high. Walked across a golden dry field. Probably hot and arid when the sun scorches. Found our way to the river, saw cool spiders with ground webs, a breaching salmon, birds chirping, poison oak, wild berries, mice, rabbits. The only thing we didnt see were coyotes. We did a long 3.1 mile trail which was flat on well groomed trails. Most people do the loop counter clockwise starting with the river trail first, so we found ourselves running into people going in the opposite direction coming back. Many wore masks. No dogs allowed. Limited but cool parts of trail are wheelchair accessable, mainly on the wood boardwalk over the swamp area. Bathrooms open by street parking but parking lots closed for Rona. Nature visit center looks cool but also closed. Saw some people carrying in kayaks which looked awesome. The drive to the preserve is also pretty. Its a tiny community with some vineyards.

Very nice walk for being a local location. The wetlands walk has a nice cement walkway. The river walk is dirt road. Very easy on the joints for any one who has joint problems. Recommended to go early to see more birds.

Great hiking around the area. It is wheelchair friendly if you go towards the main viewing area. The trail along the river is mostly hard packed dirt. We went in July so not many bird sightings. The viewing area was dry too. We did get some great pictures of heron, egrets other smaller birds :-)

Great to be surrounded with pristine nature -- wetlands with various kinds of ducks, egrets, and watched Sand Hill cranes fly in for the night as the sun set. Took looks of photos also. Informative displays and people at the visitor center.

I love going to Costumes River Preserve to check out the bird life and walk their easy hikes. Its great for families with kids, too. I especially love going 15 minutes further south, to the Sandhill Crane lookout at the Woodbridge Ecological Reserve during the migration months of October and February. It is so moving to see, and to hear, the Sandhill Cranes fly in at dusk.

A nice nature preserve with about three miles of waking trails. About half of the trails are paved cement or wooden boardwalk/bridge and the other half dirt trails. There are two different ecosystems in the nature preserve, a wetland region, and river/creek which flows through the preserve. A nice place to visit but not to much to see at the preserve.

GORGEOUS place to walk, bird watch, enjoy nature, and take photos. I saw quite a few photographers doing photo shoots while I was here. The walk was peaceful and mostly paved, and easy - no hills. It’s a truly gorgeous hidden gem, I will definitely be back, and often!

This gorgeous preserve is great for bird watching. No dogs or other pets are allowed, which preserves this wildlife habitat. Half of the park is wheelchair accessible, and the entire area is very easy to navigate and explore. Maps are posted on the trails, and the trails are clearly marked. We grabbed a map at the entrance and it was very educational. The walk can be as long or as short as desired. I would absolutely come here again.

Really enjoy this walk. A nice mix of pavement which makes it easier for those who need it and for people with strollers, or even wheelchairs! Unfortunately as of right now the parking lot is closed which makes wheelchair access unaccessible but once they open back up, perfect outing for anyone. No bathrooms only bc of closure, but again once everything opens back up...really nice spot to feel like youre getting away a bit!

Great birdwatching spot for fall and winter migrations. I love that you can make your walks longer or shorter depending on where you start, end, and what cross trails you take. During this most recent visit the trails to the oak stand were flooded out by the river, which is totally understandable and no fault of the site itself. Thats nature, baby!

Very cool place. To think its man modified too. The beauty being that this is a man made wetland created to restore and preserve what was once relatively abundant in California. Wetlands are about 90% down since we started developing here but this project is proof that we can bring the wetlands back if we really wanted to.I deeply respect such a project and its also a lovely place for a walk. I havent personally seen it to be a crowded place.

Go in the early morning or late afternoon to see the sandhill cranes. They winter there and are really something to not just see but hear. Good place for a family to visit. No pets permitted, no running potable water. Bring plenty of water, as parts of the trail are exposed, especially the west side of Franklin Blvd, where there is no shade at all.Great place to visit for those looking for a flat area to hike/walk with kids. Youll walk over bridges that cross over wetlands. Youll see plenty of wildflowers, plants, and birds. Beware that rattle snakes are present, as well as mosquitoes (depending on time of year). Also a popular destination for kayakers and canoers, as the water is calm and easy to manage. The visitor center left me wanting more and the person staffing it was more focused on her book/phone than visitors. The bathrooms on site are pit toilets, and as I stated earlier, no running water to wash your hands after. There are 20 parking spots in the main lot, with 2 of them reserved for handicap. There is a smaller parking lot on the other side of the road.
