We camped in the RV section in site 7 and loved it. Quiet camp ground with a nice sandy beach area. The lake views are stunning! The RV sites have gray water dump hookups that make staying put longer a little easier.

My husband and I visited this state park and Loved it! Its a little hidden gem!! Great place for families or as a couple. The most unique thing about this park is they have horseback riding rentals. There is a beach area for swimming. They have really nice sturdy swings set up around the lake. Nice new bathroom/ shower facilities to change and shower off. Lots of picnic tables, and some under shelters that you can reserve. Plenty of trails. A couple of boat launch areas. Camping facilities, As well as some very nice looking cabins to rent. Most of the cabins overlooked the lake. We hope to go back in the spring and rent one. I would recommend you check this place out!!

The Don Carter State Park is well maintained. We stayed on camp site 18 and Linda, the Volunteer Camp Ground Host, had the area very well cared for. The bathrooms were immaculate. The rest of the staff was great and even asked if they could do some work around our RV prior to working, which was very polite of them. I would highly recommend anyone staying at this camp ground. They have showers, a dump station, running water, and electricity. There is also a laundry room where you can wash and dry for $1.25 each.

We loved it here. It was an incredible time to hike around here with our kids. We did several of the shorter trails and we need most of the dog outer loop. Today was perfect mainly because of how few people were there! Dog friendly too.

Place is a little steep at times; however, the ride is twisty and turny and fun. Not boring and flat. The trees keep it shaded and nice and cool. Provides a bathroom at the parking where the trailers park, a fenced in paddock with grass, and a hose for a wash-down. Definitely will be returning.

My family and I absolutely love Don Carter State Park! It is a Hidden Gem within Hall County that is left untouched and preserved by the state. There is lots of pavilions with picnic tables, grills, a playground for the kids, and also beaches / boat ramp. They do have loaner life jackets available to use and return. It also looks like they rent Kayaks, paddle boards Etc. There are quite a few tent camping sites as well as RV camper sites available as well. There are a lot of hiking trails on the grounds, vending machines with drinks Etc. There is a large Beach / swim area with nice sand. Just be careful spring through fall when walking or hiking around as there are some poisonous snakes. The RV camping sites are gated with code for security as well. There is quite a bit of parking available at boat ramp around the playground and Pavilions.

Visited from Austin, TX for a long weekend in August at the tail end of a 1-month camping trip from Utah to Maine and down the east coast. We stayed in the RV Camping area. My husband and I have camped in state parks across the southeast, Texas, southwest, Rockies, and Californoa and Don Carter is one of the best. New park, paved and very large and private sites, easy water access and lots of walking trails. Clean, quiet, and beautiful in the trees.

Georgias newest state park is fantastic. Gorgeous location on the northern section of Lake Lanier. Nice size swimming beach. Boat ramp area with plenty of parking and two ramps. Plenty of trails (including equestrian trails with horseback riding offered by third party providers or with your own horses), and secure RV campsites plus primitive campsites. At the moment we did not encounter crowds, but word will probably spread and someday this park may be the top choice of many Georgians. Absolutely worth spending the day here, or camping for longer if youre lucky.

A newer state park with a nice swimming area, The hiking trails are rather short but Kayaking and abundant camping areas make up for this. They also put on some star gazing events and have a horse riding area which is pretty neat. All in all a nice park for water activity and easy hiking.

My boyfriend and I stayed at campsite #45. It was our first camping trip of the year and we enjoyed it. The site was great, there was a dip by the picnic table that we kept stepping in and we didnt care for the grill, pit combo but it worked out. We were late arriving but still able to get to our site.Peyton in the visitors center was AMAZING and helped us understand signing up for the Friends State Park Pass, we got 3 nights free when we signed up. It was great. This isnt the best place for shore side fishing because of all the boater that come by at high speeds, but we werent fishing to catch anything, were both kinda out of practice. We checked out the primitive campsites for next time and thinking sometime in the fall or even the spring well be prepared for those sites. Its a great park with friendly staff and hosts, I definitely recommend it!They have kayak rentals and hiking, we didnt do either but it is on our list to do next time.

We stayed at one of the walk-in primitive campsites and it was very nice. Spacious with pretty views and perfect tree spacing for hammocks. They have carts to haul your camping gear from the nearby parking lot. The bathroom facilities were clean and there was a water spigot and plenty of trashcans nearby. Trails here were really nice with a convenient mix of lengths.

Review №33

The park has many modern amenities and is very handicap-accessible. We enjoyed hiking on the trails, but the trailheads are a little hard to find. RV sites are high density and not level. Don’t pick site 23! It is a mud hole when it rains. The park is close enough to the city to hear traffic and the trains. It is good for fishing and water sports, but not really a “get-away-from-it-all” campground. Also—- where is the car camping? No place for families camping with tents without schlepping everything to a walk-in site.

Loved it! We really hadn’t heard much about Don Carter because it is relatively new but it was a very nice, clean park with lovely natural resources. We camped in the walk in camping area and the site was nice and rustic and nestled in the woods. Our puppy loved it as well. We would love to return and camp again.

We came for hiking the trails, we got map from visitor center, but trailheads were confusing to be found. We started at Outlook, followed by Terrapin Cove trail, finally we reached Dog Creek Inner loop and outer loop. The trails are mostly flat, easy enough to walk fast. Part of Dog Creek Outer loop is overlapped with equestrian trail. The park has many RVs parking spot and many camping sites. I can see why people brought their bikes and boats there.

Review №49

Awesome area. Two paved trails for strollers and wheelchairs. But heed the signs that warn wheelchairs to stop and turn around on both the Woodland Loop and the Lakeside Loop. See photos. You can still use the trails, they just become out and back trails instead of loops. Docks at boat ramp area are unreachable on foot, because the walkways are under 2 to 3 feet of water. Beach is only about 3 feet wide. We saw 4 deer this trip.

It is a newer park. Not very private lots of noise. We heard trains and planes and boats. Boats are to be expected by the water but if your looking to escape the city this is not the place. The visitor center and staff were awesome as well as the bathrooms are super clean which is a great plus. The park is well maintained. We saw bunnies, deer, snakes oh my! Our RV spot was the best around. Nice corner lot - the trails are clear and easy to navigate. No fish biting but maybe just our luck. This place is nice to see but again not very secluded.
