The Hippodrome Theatre is a jewel at the heart of downtown Gainesville. They offer a variety of plays in a unique venue. All the seating is good, it is a cozy theatre that entices the viewer to feel as if they are almost part of the performance. The quality of their plays is superb, the actors are professional and the variety of offerings runs the gamut of delightful, funny, thought-provoking and serious. Musicals and seasonal performances are included. Choose one and attend. You won’t regret it, I promise.

What an amazing experience! I went one night for a movie and it fantastic. There arent too many seats in the theater room so it feels pretty cozy. I saw a documentary of 60s music with a bunch of boomers and it was a hoot.

We picked up our tickets at will call. Long line but moved quickly. My husband waited in line at the bar and the server was great. The play Marie and Rosettawas terrific. It was very moving so bring a Kleenex. Or the box. I expected it to be a musical. While the music was excellent, it is a drama. Im so thankful for these determined, talented and finally recognized women.

DID NOT GO TO MAIN AUDITORIUM, THIS REVIEW IS ONLY FOR THE CINEMA SPACE.. The theater is blah, seats somewhat uncomfortable by todays standards, but what the heck, still fun if you like independent movies. Building itself is very cool. Right in downtown, lots of nice restaurants and a cigar bar right across the street.

In a word--EXCELLENT! Currently running is the play Million Dollar Quartet. Drift back in time with Elvis, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Fletch and their encounters with Sun Records! Theres not a dull moment in this play that is certain to get you out of your seat and dancing in the aisles! Fortunately, it has been extended again until August 4, 2019 due to the overwhelming positive response from the theatre patrons! I highly recommend you seek tickets now before all the shows are sold out! Standing ovations have become a regular occurrence due to the spectacular performance by all the actors and actress!Be there or BE SQUARE!

Neat little theater that is like a living piece of history. Theyre well involved with the local area with lots of events and a welcome inclusive atmosphere. Intimate, comfortable seating thats well padded and leans back for comfort. They also skew progressive, which my family definitely finds positive.

Saw Scrooge in Rouge - an odd screwball take on A Christmas Carol. It almost qualifies as an opera since its non-stop single. But without the fat lady soprano. Almost. Not quite fat, and a drag queen. Happy, bawdy, irreverent, and an onstage piano maestro.

An historic building with grand programs. Location excellent. Sunrise from adjacent condo. Their intellectual and musical offerings are superior and inexpensive. The location is in the center of an exciting area of restaurants and local entertainment in the park. A variety of foods and activities and only a quick walkable mile from UF and several motels. Near the historical society and museum. A MUST SEE TO VISIT.

We saw The Royale and I cannot say enough good things about it! I balled my eyes out by the end and the crowd had a standing ovation! I cant wait to come into town again to see another show!

I love the hipp the show that I last got to see was million dollar quartet. The tickets where extremely expensive and I was in shock at the price...but this show blew my mind it was amazing from start to finish. I was like how is this not on a big stage? Now on the downside besides the crazy ticket price, the seats could use an update my back felt broken after sitting in them. I love everything about this old building the elevator, old sinks and the history behind this wonderful building is great that we are lucky we get to use and still look at this beauty in Gainesville

I saw the play Million Dollar Quartet. OMG!! It was so good! The guys (and lady) are phenomenal musicians and singers. Youll want to go again just for the music. I recognized most of the songs! The seating is very tight there so if you have long legs or are tall, youll be cramped. The audience really gets into the music. At the end, the guys were singing the chorus See Ya later, alligator, and half of us were doing the Gator Chomp!Well worth the time and the money! Great job HIPP!!!

Going to The Hippodrome Theatre is truly a wonderful experience. Some may not remember that this was our old post office building. In addition the School Board of Alachua Count had offices there on the first floor. My first job after graduation from the University of Florida was here. I worked for Dr. Jack Christian. The theatre is on the second floor and you may choose to use the original elevator or use the stairs.I love the plays here. We have so many Local and visiting people who make all of the plays so wonderful. Great costumes and excellent characters. Enjoy!!!
