My 11 year old and 10 year old really enjoyed themselves. We went right at opening so there werent alot of people when we arrived. They had hand sanitizers throughout the museum and wipes available to use and clean the consoles after each use. It was cool to learn and see all the different consoles. Brought back some good memories.

You can safely social distance while also taking a walk down memory lane. We spent a couple hours here with my kids. My sister and I had the most fun. Being eighties babies, there were a ton of games and game systems we know and live. We saw a lot we had never seen before also. The price of admission was reasonable. $12 for general admission and $10 for 10 and under. This is a rather unique place that contains so much informational history and live game play on systems of all sorts. It is amazing how much has changed over the years. The walls and displays are so colorful and fun. They had an 80s bedroom complete with duck hunt on nes. I was transported back to my childhood for sure!Playing a game on a commodore 64 was crazy! The 2 arcade areas were so fun. The included 10 tokens each got us a decent amount of retro game play.I highly recommend coming out here if you ever find yourself in the Dallas area. Well worth your time and money.

Yes this museum is a little small, but if you’re a video game nerd with a love for old nostalgic games, this is the place for you. They have a lot of interactive exhibits where you can play all kinds of old games and they also have lots of exhibits of old systems and the history behind them. With your price of admission you get tokens to play in one of two arcades they have on site. All in all, it was a great place to visit on a Sunday afternoon.

Great place for classic videogame fans! I go here probably once a month to play all of the classics and really walk through time in videogames. The other thing thats fun is that they switch out a lot of the games that are in each console so you are able to play different classics every time you come in! You can definitely tell this place is a passion project from a group of people who genuinely care about videogames.

I have been to the museum several times now. There are the mainstay exhibits and also some that seasonally rotate in. The staff is courteous and helpful when in need. The amount of amazing gaming history amassed at the museum is a true joy to experience. From the various consoles, to handhelds, and as well PC based systems the exhibits are meticulously assembled. Then there is also the token arcade that allows you to play several staples from the arcade era.

My whole family loved this museum. Wish we had more than an hour to spend there. Even my wife enjoyed it, and she just came a long with the rest of the family. The boys listed this as one of the highlights of the trip, and I cant argue with them on that point. My youngest (who is obsessed with trains, mind you) said he enjoyed it just as much as getting to see the Union Pacific Big Boy in the train museum that shares the building. Totally worth the trip!!!

Very cool place to nerd out on video games you grew up with. This museum brought back so many memories. It was very interactive and offered consoles to play on when you were a kid. The museum does a great job explaining a brief history on the piece while you give it a go on a game. The whole place was very inviting and would highly recommend bringing your family here. Theres a little something for everyone here. The 80s arcade was also cool and I could have stayed there forever. Every corner you turn, there is a something to learn about but also to try out and actually play! The museum did a great job with all of the consoles featuring a game that was popular at that time. Would definitely come back again! We got here right when it opened and was a great way to scan/play everything right before the crowds picked up. They also offered free guided tours which walked you through the history and evolution of video games.

This place is AMAZING. We had our sons sixth birthday here and could not have been happier with the setup, the hostess, and the museum itself. Their arcade was great - I got to play some games I havent since middle school and show my kids the Virtual Boy, which I sold about six years ago to my everlasting regret. The big highlight for me was getting to play ET, something of a legendary game widely regarded as the single worst game ever made - and it did not disappoint...in the best way.

One of the best museums I have ever been to. Our whole family loved it - from my 40 year old husband to my 5 year old daughter! This museum does an incredible job showing the evolution of video games and makes it so fun. The giant pong game and the interactive and on point 80’s living room and bedroom were my favorites...but what a treat to play Oregon Trail on the old school computers from my childhood and Pac Man on the Atari 2600 console. Just incredible. Our kids loved all the interactive exhibits and arcades and it was just amazing to show them what felt like every console and hand held gaming device ever made. You get a feel for the history and scope of gaming and this place really packs a nostalgic punch. Highly recommend the trip to Frisco to experience this gem.

Where to begin? The layout is perfect if you like the classic Stage system of video games. You literally start from the inception of the video games and their parent companies. You move along to a cool trivia section to other display cases, actual classic video games, a retro video game store, vintage working computers, 80s style bedrooms, an arcade (you get 4 tokens with admission). Note: there are a lot of video games to play along the way. $12 adult / $10 child. Show your kids what video games were like by visiting this totally rad place. Its worth the trip and you can stay as long as you like!I give NVGM this rating 5 joysticks!

This place is a lot of fun. The museum itself is a little small but it is jam packed with a lot of pieces. Definitely lots of nostalgia: consoles, controllers, games, etc. There is a lot of history regarding the development of gaming and computers. There interactive games and demos throughout, even a photo op set up of an old video game store going out of business. The price of admission is $12, which I didnt think was too bad. You also receive 4 tokens with the price to play 4 games at their mini arcade set up at the end of the tour. If you want to play more games, they do have the option to purchase more tokens via an old school change machine or with a card in the gift shop. The gift shop is very small but it does have some cute items. I really liked their T-shirts and purchased two.

Fantastic place. I was in video game heaven. Very well done. I didnt expect such a great display of games and history. Game consoles were out to play and descriptions of all the consoles were available to read. To top off the amazing trip down video game history, there is an arcade room with classics video games. 80s music played in there to make you feel like youre actually in the 1980s. What a trip. I also love the way they set up a late 1970s/early 1980s living room with a video game console on the coffee table. Theres also a replica of a 1985 teens bedroom with a super Nintendo connected to a TV along with a bed with Pac man bedsheets. I also love the 80s movie posters on the wall to add to it. Great place, highly recommended. I will have to go back to finish the museum since I was only there for an hour and a half.

Who would have though such a place existed?!?!? A history of video games from beginning to end. Some of the legendary rare consoles that Ive only seen in magazines were in glass cases. Never thought Id actually see developers gaming consoles in person. The 90s kids bedroom examples really reminded me of my childhood and there was a fun connection while looking at everything.I guess the only gripe is the fun arcade in the end. Maybe a mechanic should take a look at the cabinets. Some of the joysticks were beat to hell like the 90s. So the games were not very playable due to faulty controls. Not sure if that was intentional to fit the age theme or if they were actually worn down and no one looked at them.

Their mission is fairly straightforward and simple: To preserve the history of the videogame industry by archiving not only the physical artifacts, but also the information and stories behind its creation. Videogames have been around in one form or another since the 1950s and many of the people who first decided to combine interactive entertainment with a graphical display such as a monitor or a TV set have passed-away. In some cases, the stories these people had to tell are lost forever or only live on in second or third-hand renditions. Rescuing the physical artifacts left behind can be difficult enough - making sense of passed-on stories can be next to impossible. The goal of the National Videogame Museum is to document, FIRST HAND, as much information about the creation and evolution of the videogame industry as possible and preserve as many physical artifacts as possible for generations to come. The vast majority of the people who created the videogame industry had no idea how enormous it would become and therefore never really saw much importance in what they were doing. The founder of Atari, Nolan Bushnell, felt he was creating something huge and saw videogames as having the potential to become a “billion dollar business”. There are individual GAMES that make that much today. Lastly, they will present the information and as many of the physical artifacts as possible to the public in an entertaining and informative way. Videogames are meant to be played and that is the underlying thought behind each and every exhibit in the museum. This means that they will do everything in theirs power to allow museum patrons the opportunity to actually PLAY as many games as possible during visit to the National Videogame Museum.
