A good place for different hiking purposes. When weather is good, sunset is very beautiful and can watch sunset across bay. The only attention required is there is no much shadows along the way up to the peak.

This is not an easy hike be warned! The first half a mile to 3/4s of a mile is one of the toughest and most strenuous parts of a hike I have ever experienced, as it is constant elevation gain. Going to the peak is about 95% uphill and 5% flat or straighter areas, so bring lots of water and be prepared to take a lot of breaks in between the hike. There is a constant breeze that you feel throughout the hike and especially on a warmer day it makes the hikes bearable. There is not much to see at first but as the trail opens up and gets wider, you will begin to see a lot more of the nice scenery. The final stretch of the hike features a rocky climb to the top so make sure you have sturdier shoes for the end to be able to get to the top. The peak is awesome because it really does feel as if youre on top of the world and looking down at everything. In addition, going back down is extremely satisfying because all the hard work of you getting to the top will have final paid off. Overall, this is a very good hike for those who have the experience or want the challenge but may not be suitable for casual hikers.

Mission Peak Regional Preserve Loop. The trail is about 6 miles and has over 2,000 ft of elevation gain.It is quite steep and offers a good workout. You will be rewarded with beautiful views of the Bay Areas natural scenery.I started at 4:00 pm on 3/16/2020 and completed the hike in 2 hours 45 minutes. On the way down I met a lot of people who had hiked up to enjoy the sunset, which looks very beautiful from the top of the peak. The trail was somewhat muddy and wet, made it a bit harder to hike. I took some pictures of a few mountains on the south side of the peak, which looked spectacular covered in a thin layer of snow. I felt really lucky to be hiking down while watching the sunset, which was so lovely. It was as pretty as a picture, easy on the eye. Please do visit, hike and adore the breathtaking nature views. I too will be back here around the same time to say goodbye to the Sun again and not worry about parking.

Very challenging hike. Best to go in the morning! Also please make sure you wear layers as the more you go up - it gets really chilly. I went in summer and still I had to ask for a jacket. The wide roads are good as you want to maintain enough distance from others. Parking is a bit of an issue but if you wander around in the neighborhood- you should be able to find a good spot.

A must hiking nature reserve for locals in Bay Area. Enjoy hiking here twice and it’s almost challenges but after all an amazing trip. Straight forward grind. I ride my bike up the Ohlone side and love the nature, open trails, and friendly people. Its up hill, and it will get you in shape if you walk, run or ride. This park has a very good view of the Bay Area but it is way to overrated and I feel like they should go to different parks around the area. I hope that there are less cows and more shades. First u start the hike in flat lands. The landscaping is pretty boring, but there are great views. Then u go near a cow pasture and arrive In little shades. This is my second favorite part of this hike behind the view of course. Then u keep climbing until there is a restroom. After that, just climb to the top and see a phenomenal few of the Bay Area. Last, just repeat the process and arrive back to the parking lot. Anyways, it is okay to like mission peak, this is just my opinion.

Great hiking trail. It is well paced so that a first timer wouldnt over exert themselves with steep ascents in some areas and plateaus in others. There are quite a few animals to see on the trail if you are lucky. I caught an eagle, squirrel and some cows grazing. There are conveniently placed stops to rest and catch your breath and a bathroom some ways to the top. It is important that newbies and first timers come with their own water and snacks to stay refreshed. Making it to the top can be a challenge but very good for a solo hike or with family. The view is of course breath taking.

Should take a little over an hour to get to the top if you are in good shape. If not, get ready for some tough stretches that will really work them leg muscles. Breath taking view from the top. The distance to reach top of Mission Peaks is about 4 miles. I walk at normal speed and I took 3 hours to reach to the top. Height at top of the hill is about 2300 feet. The trail is Dog friendly. No water fountains in the way, so bring water. Washroom is available only at start of trail. The trail was slippery at some points, because of stones. The view was spectacular with a 360 degree view from top of the hill. There are tables for every half mile to take rest. Awesome sunset. Busy during weekends.

The hike was easy (although it did test some endurance), there wasnt much on the peak, the hills were covered with yellow grass (which got boring very fast). So there is not much entertainment offered by this hiking trail. Although it will be a fun outing with friends and you can catch-up with each others lives through this experience. Also finding a parking was a nightmare.I hiked on July 4, 2019 and took around 2 hours to climb and 1 hour to descend.

Rode my bike from San Jose Google maps said one hour but the old man kicked in (Im 64) and it took 2 hours. The last 3-4 miles are pretty hilly and the gears were not as helpful as I had hoped so there was one stretch I had to walk with the bike. Walked 1 mile up the hiking trail pushing bike but I started late and I did not want to ride all the way back in the dark so I left and did not summit. Next time Ill leave earlier. I feel great about the ride 3 hours 50 minutes total. Riding back was much easier some downhill coasting immediately leaving the park was helpful. Great ride even though head wind made ride longer and more grueling. Feels good to have ride under my belt.

This is the best way to get to Mission Peak by far. That said, this path is not recommended for first time hikers. The distance of this hike is what separates the experienced and non-experienced hikers. From the visitors center, the hike out and back is about 11-miles. The views are beautiful and the experience is worth the time it takes to make the trip. The best part about this hike is that it is very lightly traveled route. We saw foxes, deer, squirrels, birds, cows, turkeys, and raccoons. My favorite way to see Mission Peak.

For Mission Peak FIRST TIMERS: The earlier the better. Itll get hot around 9-10.. PARKING is a super hard to find(even by 8-9am). So Id advise for you to be there early! Dont park where you arent suppose to park! You will be Cited! $300 and possible arrest. I read the regulation. So just Google it. Alot of ppl did get ticketed when we were leaving. Unless u have that $300 or more then pay attention to the signs. Theres alot of ppl so dont be surprise. Also, bring a Hiking Stick or Cane.itll really help, Im a bit big and out of shape, but even the skinny ones and those that seem fit had a tough time as well. So no judgements there. Sizes doesnt matter. If youre fit then youll be fine. Pace yourself. Rest. Dont carry a big backpack! I made that mistake and I was dying! My camo-pack was est.10-15lbs.so yea. Theres porta potty at the beginning, water fountains, and water to fill your bottles. NO Portapotty going up so use the rest room. No shade on the trail.unless u walk to the side when youre going up. Theres a warning sign at the beginning as well, of Moutain Lion, and to stay off the grass because theres alot of Ticks, etc. There are rest spots as you go up. The view is beautiful. Amazing. Of course going down is easier but still steep. I find it easier for me if I jog a little as Im going back down rather than going slow. Take your time, youll get there. Sucks to have to go back down if u need to use the restroom, that happened to us. Missing one star is that reason! Itd be great if they do put some portapotty up there. There are garbage and recycling bins. Dont litter.
