Visited Carnton with my 10 year old son yesterday. We both absolutely loved the tour. Our guide, Carrie was so great! She really knows the history and story or Carnton so well. My 10 year old was fascinated. We had just spent a week on the beach in FL, but Carnton was his favorite stop of our trip. Go, ask for Carrie! All of Franklin was beautiful as well.

Did the slave tour of the Carnton House and could not have been more pleasantly surprised. Our Guide was remarkable, and answered every possible question we had. This particular tour brought a unique perspective to what life was like for both the plantation owners and the slaves that labored there. The sights and scenes are not extensive, but your ticket brings the expertise of the guide who made all the difference for second to none experience. At $18 to $25 its on the expensive side, but these funds help keep historical sights like these around for future generations to visualize the growing pains that our country went through.Thank you!

We recently visited Carnton and absolutely loved it!! We were traveling home from Michigan to Texas and thought a plantation would be nice to tour while traveling. The tour guide we had was so good!!! I really wish we could remember her name! My 13 and 15 year old daughters even said this was their favorite stop! The tour guide kept us intrigued the entire hour. This should be an absolute must for anyone considering. Well worth the money (it’s really not expensive) and I really hope you get the same tour guide we had! The tour was so fascinating and there were multiple times I got chills from feeling so connected to American history. More than worth it!

Great perspective of the battle of Franklin, TN. The house was used as a Confederate hospital following the clash in 1864. There is a fee to tour the house. The tour lasts approximately one hour. A Confederate cemetery and 19th century garden are also available to explore. Most of the items in the house are not original due to the fact that the house was passed into private hands after the original family moved out.

Interesting sympathetic tour of th original home & stories of just what th family was forced to endure during that horrific time. We visited the Franklin Battlefield. The Carnton house tour covered one of the last large battles of the civil war. The story was told from the prospective of the plantation and its familys selfless service to the south and its soldiers. The house tour takes 1 hour and about 30 mins to see the grounds. We recommend this as a quick and informative visit for those interested in the history of middle Tennessee.

I read The Orphan Mother (it’s an amazing novel) so I had to visit the plantation. The tour guide was nice, knowledgeable, and politically correct. The grounds were well maintained and the plantation, cemetery, and it’s history is amazing. I took a moment to imagine the soldiers marching toward the Carnton house. I imagined the wounded soldiers in every corner of the house crying out. I imagined Mariah‘a twins being laid to rest in the McGavock’s cemetery. So I gave it a four because you arrive at the back of the house and the tour starts in the back of the home. After the tour you can walk around to the front but I would have preferred to start the tour in the front of the house so you can see just how large and magnificent the home is and was in the 1800s.

Let me preface this by saying that I’m not a history lover or buff, but I appreciate it and love to learn about our nation’s history. $18 for the basic 1-hr guided tour of the house was pretty good, but we were with a man who guided our tour, and I was pretty bored. I couldn’t even finish the tour, so I sat by the front door downstairs while he finished the tour of the upstairs and I wrote some google reviews. My boyfriend finished the tour, and he loves history so he stuck it out the whole time, but he said our tour guide drug it out a little bit too much as well. It was difficult for me to remain intrigued because the man was so boring. :(

Warning to all brides-to-be: Do not have your event here. Carnton is a beautiful place, but our experience was completely ruined with the rude, disrespectful, & unprofessional Event Coordinator, Hannah Jacobs. I never once felt welcome here because of her. My family & I received countless nasty emails from Hannah after we expressed interest in the venue. Their contract states they have the right to ALL of your wedding photos -- beginning to end. Their social channels are filled with false advertising, as their contract excludes practically everything in the book. This was a very disappointing part of my journey, but Im happy we dodged that bullet.

I had a beautiful wedding here, the grounds are well kept and the mansion was gorgeous. We spent a lot of money on this venue with a lot of promises made from our original venue planner savannah who was very sweet and helpful. Unfortunately the woman who took over our rental, her name was Hannah, was extremely rude and hard to work with.We went for the walk through two weeks before the wedding to solidify all of our plans and she refused to allow us to do a lot of the things we had been planning. We had already cleared all of these things with our original planner, savannah. So it was extremely frustrating for us to have to replan the wedding we had taken a year to plan. She wasnt kind about it either, she was very rude and short with us, her attitude was not my problem. Additionally they were having a summer camp going on while we were walking through that they didnt tell us about, so we had to rush through the walk through while gettin a lot of bad information. She called the police on our groomsmen for drinking outside before 5 pm, they didnt know they werent allowed to drink in that location before 5pm. So police showed up on my wedding day, causing a lot of drama and adding stress to the already stressful day. She was extremely rude to my father, who is a very kind person. My father on my wedding day had to talk to the cops and try to ensure that they didnt ruin my day.She then came to my wedding in a tydye shirt and cut off jeans to break everything down way earlier than we were told that we needed to be out. She was rude to my vendors, my planner, my family, and my guests. Im very disappointed in my experience with carnton, but had a beautiful wedding there despite the fact that this happened. It rained on my wedding day, so my aunt used a wash cloth from the bridal suite to wipe off the chairs for the ceremony and it got misplaced. Hannah was very upset over this one washcloth, yelling at my bridal party and mother that if she didnt find the wash cloth she would be charging us for the entire set. Eventually it was found, thank god. Must have been a golden wash cloth. Also, be aware that if you leave any trash bags anywhere that isnt the dumpster (in our case on the ground near the dumpster) the venue will charge you 100$ PER BAG. My mom was hit with more fees the day after the wedding, when she had already payed over 4000$ for the use of the venue.I feel that Hannah doesnt have the personality to work with brides, she didnt seem to be happy for us and honestly just acted like she wanted to go home the whole day. I had hoped she was just not going to be there for it, but sadly she was. Unfortunately I had to give a 3 star review because of this, I hope other brides see this and know not to work with Hannah, even though carnton is beautiful. We have emailed the owner of the business, her boss, weeks ago and have still not heard anything back. Its very unprofessional and rude. Hope to hear back so we can know that, at the very least, hes aware of her attitude problem and can coach her on this. I sincerely hope another bride doesnt have to go through this on her wedding day.

This was a wonderful and very historical/informative tour. I think that the thought and care they put into restoring the house was awesome. They worked so hard to bring it to its former glory and it’s a very interesting story. This was the last of the three important historical houses in the tour, and the guide understood that we had heard the same story twice. He gave us some new information about the battle that we wouldn’t have known otherwise, as well as some stories about the family that lived at the house. He even pointed out the furniture that was original (in all three houses they had to make replicas because they were passed on to descendants or ruined in the battle) and it’s importance. I loved this tour very much and it was a fantastic experience. Definitely recommend it if you are in Nashville or the area!

We just had our wedding there on June 4th. Morgan and Megan held our hand through it and the security guard that night was wonderful. He helped my family and crew clean and pack things up when it wasnt his job and he wished us congratulations. We looked at venue after venue and Carnton was literally the only one that I felt was prepared to host such an event. They greeted us with a full packet and explained everything in detail. The grounds were sprayed for and manicured perfectly. I met so many venues that told ME (the bride) that I was more prepared than me, and Ive only been to two weddings (one of them I was a baby!). The home has a special place in my heart because my brother had volunteered here and we have southern roots. Its a remarkable home, with an outstanding staff. Every time we came for anything, they always knew why we were there or helped us if they werent totally sure. Such a wonderful place for a tour, the park, and a wedding. Great landmark, beautiful house and grounds. We visited a lot of historical places and unfortunately this was probably one of the worst guides we had. The location has such great history but she must have been having a bad day or something...did not seem very passionate at all, and seemed like she was taking a little too many liberties with her historical facts, but Im no expert. Crazy to see the blood stains still present on the floor, all the old surgical instruments, and the cemetery the family made for all the poor soldiers that died. I should have written this review last year after visiting the plantation, but since I recently told friends about it, I will write my review now. This was one of the highlights of a 3 month road trip my husband and I took. We tried to take in as many Civil War sites as we could. The day we visited the Carnton Plantation, we arrived late in the day. The docent that gave the tour was a lady and very knowledgeable about the plantations history. She truly brought the place and events surrounding it, to life! In the course of the tour, we also heard about the Carter House. After our tour was over, we hurried over to the Carter House, just in time to catch the last tour. We were the only two on it...which gave us a one on one tour with the docent there. Because we had to hurry over to the Carter House, we missed walking the cemetery at the Carnton Plantation. We plan to make a stop there again, next time we visit the area. Since both my husband and my family were Union, it was quite a lesson and good view of the Confederate side of the war. Robert Hicks has written a fictional novel about Carrie McGavock, called The Widow of the South. While it is fiction, it does give the story of her life and the Confederate cemetery that is part of the plantation. I would highly recommend this tour to any one visiting the Nashville area. It is worth the drive down to Franklin to see it!
