We took the red trail Its well maintained and very manageable for the beginner. This is a quiet woods walk, you hear the many birds and catch glimpses. There are a few openings to expansive fields and some panoramic views. The red trail makers are not clear at some turns because of the unmarked maintenance trails. So bring the trail map. Also my step app clocked this walk closer to 3 miles than one and half. You should not get lost.

Me and my husband have been visiting Buckley for a few years now and have always loved the walking trails. Its never overcrowded and typically a peaceful place to spend the afternoon. BUT when we went back on 06/07/2020 all of the walking trails were overgrown, poorly taken care of and some of the trails were almost unrecognizable. Not to mention we were both INFESTED with ticks! The ticks had to be because of all the overgrow around the walking trails. And I dont mean we had a tick or 2 on us by the time we left, no we were covered in the 30 min we were there. Instantly drove home when we noticed and pulled off about 20 ticks off the 2 of us. My pants had another 20 crawling out of them to the point that I just ended up throwing them away. Im so glad I didnt take my dogs with us or they would have been covered as well. I have never seen this many ticks in my life! So beware if you, your family or if you take your pets out there. Im not sure that we will be returning after this.

!Warning! This was a nice place for a short hike and the trails were well maintained and marked but we encountered lots of ticks. My friend found 9 ticks on herself and I found 4 on myself. I would reconsider going unless I had plenty of repellent and clothing covering all skin.

This is a nice place to come for a walk. There are very few visitors most days. Today there were only three cars when I arrived. I only saw two people on the trails. I hiked the Red Trail today, which is a nice 2 mile walk when combined with the yellow Trail. For a Wildlife Preserve though you see very little wildlife. I saw evidence of owls and heard a woodpecker and heard a few wild birds, but that was it. There is no entrance fee though they suggest a donation of $4. Also the Buckley Wildlife Sanctuary is now run by Life Adventure Center of Woodford County. Basically this is a good place to come if you want to get away from it all for a little while and just have some solitude in nature.EDIT: Definitely more wildlife now, as Whitetail Deer have come back. I see a few every time Im out there!

This is a nice, quiet place. It has, however, seen better days. When I was there it was in need of maintenance and mowing.

Wonderful, a refuge not only for the wildlife, but also for you. No endless housing sprawl, traffic, noise, and asphalt. Dont get me wrong, I like living in Lexington; but access to this place is priceless. I couldnt stop watching the precious little creatures flitting about sipping water and looking for seeds. Good that its a bit out of the way; I rather prefer it. Well done, Audubon!

Awesome get away for an easy hike through forest preserve. Outdoor pavilion with bathroom perfect for a picnic lunch. Other trails amble around picturesque pond. Cool bird blind to get up close to wild critters that visit feeders. No exhibits or programming but a great place to get out in the natural world. Great for birders! A little out of the way but close enough to Lexington and Frankfort to be worth the brief drive!

Nice quiet walk. It is mid March so I hate to judge the area to harshly. Lots and lots of dead and dying trees. nice bird blind. Didnt see much wildlife in our visit.

Nice place for walking and bird watching. Signs need work as many are hard to read on trails.

The great outdoors away from it all! Bird blind (heated in winter, cooled in summer), around 5 miles of hiking trails, wildlife viewing opportunities, complete with sheltered group picnic area and flush toilets.

Rarely have we seen other people on these trails. Very peaceful. On several visits weve seen deer and a wide variety of birds. Quite a few snakes as well.

Breathtakingly beautiful! Took a group of 4th graders to Buckley recently for a science focused field trip. The staff did an amazing job with our big group of energetic 9-10 year olds. The led groups through geology, bird study, food chain, gardening, and engineering demonstrations. After our sack lunches in their pavilion we went on a very nice hike. By the end of the day the students (and adults) were worn out. It was a great experience and way to connect classroom learning with the real world.

The bird blind is great as is the Pavilion. Beyond that there are trails in a park like setting., it is quite beautiful there.

Badly in need of preservation lessons. Lots of cutting and destruction. Good bird viewing. But one of the least of the preservations in KY, and I would know I have been to 415 locations and ranked them. Score: C
