Good afternoon for a walk through the woods. Paths are set up well. The river was great to walk next to.
Awesome secluded park with a nice stream running thru it. Great scenery of fall colors. I like these hidden gems theres a lot to discover right in home state of Wisconsin, which seems to go somewhat underappreciated
What should be a near 5 star review is reduced to a 3 by an utterly shameful amount of TLC from the Fond du Lac County Parks Department. Hobbs Woods is an outstanding example of not only Hardwoods, but also the effects of glaciation and rock formation, of which theres a particularly informative sample of from most likely the Canadian Shield, if you happen to find it... The Parks Department, it would seem from the perspective of someone whos visited four times a week for the past 11 plus years, does more harm than actual good for Hobbs Woods. They are too lazy to walk the paths like the rest of us and so use a four wheeler to get around doing immense devastation to the paths, of which Ive included picture evidence of. What compounds this is that they dont actually do much of anything to maintain the paths, let alone improve them. Ive included a weed infested picture of this years (too limited for a park this big) supply of woods chips. This is reflective of how much actual labor is put into the park each year. Ive seen massive trees block off the main path for over three months (last year) despite informing park employees of the downed trees. Others off the path they 4 wheel on are left even longer. Americorps did more for this park with a small group of volunteers from out of state (embarrassing!) than the Fond du Lac County Parks department has done in the last ten years. This is NOT hyperbole, just look at my pictures....Its not stretch to say theyve done more damage than all the visitors combined. I watch their tracks turn into rivers which erode paths at a phenomenal rate. Even the parts of the path they put structures to allow water to flow across the path are completely undermined by their own 4 wheel ruts! Today I saw them put an obnoxious amount of signage into the parking lot area. As if saying the same thing more than once is necessary? Someone should seriously reevaluate the people tasked with maintaining this gem of a park!
Beautiful hike, only problem is its too short.I like to frequent this trail if Im in the mood to get out into nature and am rewarded with some gorgeous trails that snake through and around a little creek. Its never overcrowded (at least when Im there) which gives the feel that youre just exploring a woods in your backyard. My only issues are that its not a terribly long hike around 30 minutes so Ill usually do two passes, and the parking lot is across the street from a farm so it smells a little, but those are just minor gripes in an otherwise worthwhile experience.
Beautiful hiking trails and (mostly) quiet solitude.
Beautiful trail quiet and serene
Great place to walk. We take the dog for a walk every week here. Nice wilderness trail!
Great family nature trail (but buggy)
Parking can be a problem on really nice days. Try to car pool if going with friends. If you bring a dog, keep it leashed and clean up messes. It gets very muddy with just about any amount of rain, so wear or bring boots. Nice to walk in the Winter too if youre familiar with the trails. Id like to see them dig out an area and let it fill with more water, somewhere to fish. You can catch suckers occasionally in a few deep spots. Toads come out but I forgot when. There used to be more wood benches around But im guessing they rotted out.
Really beautiful walking trail! This is a great place for pictures or taking your pet for a walk :) Its in the middle of nowhere though so dont expect flush toilets or anything! Also, it is by a river so the mosquitoes are horrendous sometimes and if it rained within the last seven days it will be very muddy so bring bug repellent and hiking boots.
Large area, clean and beautiful trees/plantlife. Its always nice to hike here.
Like some other people have said can get some mud in spots. But overall nice trails. Multiple spots to cross the creek. Wear some decent shoes and bug spray. Looking forward to bringing the dogs with next time
The woods are nice, but the bugs were bad.
Fantastic nature walks near a beautiful stream. Porty potty at entrance which in convenient.
Gorgeous creek and hiking trails
Beautiful and serene. a short hike but relaxing
Beautiful natural area!
Love taking the kids here, its a great place to take your pups too! Also, PLEASE DONT LITTER!
Can get really muddy at times. But really peaceful and never too crowded. An excellent place to get out of the city and take the dogs for a walk.
First time going and it was towards the end of the day. I didnt walk out too far down the trails (I was trying to find a spot for pictures) when I found my first(?) bridge and a small creek.I got eaten alive, pretty sure I sweated 10 lbs due to the heat, didnt get various pictures (I was focused on the super cute model..Ms. Ribbit) but was gifted a small dance of lightning bugs.******The parking area isnt anything huge, nor paved but easily accessible for larger vehicles. there is a portable bathroom near the parking area as well. For a seemingly primitive park, it appears to be very well kept (no seen litter, trails appeared to be free of most debris.)I cant wait to go back and explore more.
Small , peaceful area ! Lots of room to adventure though ! My family and I love it here.
Best nature place near fondulac woods river hills all that
Plenty of trails nice outdoor free adventure for the family or whoever
Needs a little updating on the trails. Dog owners need to clean up after there pets. Otherwise nice park
Great walk with lots of winding trails around a creek that runs through the park. Not very a long hike around the perimeter and the parking lot isnt large either.
I live how peaceful it is out there. The trails are great, the people out there hiking with their pets are all so friendly. Has been a favorite quiet spot since the 70s.
Nice trails , a great place to mountain bike.
Beautiful place. The creek is really cool, the kids like looking for frogs.
My only complaint was all the mosquitos.... But thats just part of being out in nature where a river flows! My favorite hiking place by far
Great place to do some mild hikeing. Its a beautiful place. A Bathroom and water bubbler would be nice. But just remember to bring water and a roll or tp.
Ive been going here since I was a kid. I have spent so many days here and it means so much to the community. Something so small and wonderful has been a big part of growing up for me. I never want to see this place close down! Its gorgeous for a leisurely outdoor walk just a few miles away from town. Everything is so quiet and humbling.
Absolutely love this place
My brother got married there today it was beautiful
Been going here for years, nice little nature trails in the middle of farm country
Great place to walk, take in nature, bird watch, and/walk with your dog. Beautifully maintained, clean outhouse, and lots of little extra trails.
Beautiful, well kept trails.
Needs trimming on the trails
Its vast and amazing always had cool people to meet randomly which Ive met quite a few. Hard to explain but its just a surreal genuinely beautiful environment just hidden outside of town like another world. Love it
This place is mesmerizing! Its a beautiful, deciduous forest surrounding a steam. Lots of little bridges and logs for people of all ages to climb on.
Great place for a hike any time of year.
Very beautiful woods and nice hike. Lots too see!
Very pleasant, easy trails, babbling brook along one set of the trails. Perfect for a Sunday afternoon walk. Dogs are allowed. Trails are hard packed dirt (or mud, depending on season), so hiking boots are a good choice.
Hobbs woods is even better than Lakeside park !!!!! Its more like wilderness trails and you can even bring your dogs along with you to have fun with you !!!!!!!
Just bring bug spray! Beautiful woods and trails.
It was very muddy but the bugs arent out yet.
Very beautiful trails. Great experience.
What a great and tranquil park. The rippling creek is so sublime...
A mess, immature kids and adults littering and knocking down trees. Needs some sort of enforcement out there. I bring a trash bag every time Im out there and fill it. Dont come if you want to look at nature covered in human filth
Such a beautiful trail, great for pictures as well
Great for going for a walk in the woods, wear waterproof shoes and you can walk in the creek as well
Very nice place to hike
One of my favorite places for a walk, the fall colors are really awesome here too!
A great place to go to unwind and relax.
Great trial for the family and for your dogs
Gorgeous short trails along a creek. Beware of the mosquitoes!
I love to walk here peaceful.
Brings back memories
Always great to visit, just plan for mosquitoes.
