This is a really great local zoo, well maintained, and clean. Great spot if you have younger kids because it’s not huge so it’s just the right amount of time for your little ones to walk around. I would also recommend the train ride it’s really fun again for the little ones.

Such a great little urban city find that teaches the kids alot about responsibility we have to not just wild but domestic animals as well along with how to better keep the distance and maintain their environment. however for all the mid day goers... 12 to 2ish seems like nap time so be prepared to see lots of snoozing fuzzy bums .

The zoo could use some work and or some more exotic animals. We had a good experience but I feel like the animals we saw were the same that we see on the local nature trail aside from the condors and the monkeys. The price is more then affordable but not necessarily a destination for tourists.

I was recently violently thrown from my house (see my edh wells fargo review) which was quite embarassing to my fabled local guide status. nevertheless, i was homeless and was looking for a place to live. During the night, i snuck in and made fast friends with the grizzly bear. (our friendship began in a violent brawl, but was soon resolved when i pulled out a pack of twizzlers.) the next day, many families came and i made some faces at little kids through the glass, before an employee decided that my stay was over and dragged me out. I would like to thank your establishment for a wonderful one day resting place and for having such a kind bear.

Great place to take the kids. I even remember going there when I was little. Lots of well taken care of animals; they have tigers, monkeys, and even bears.Whats cool about the Folsom Zoo is that its a sanctuary, so they only take in animals that cannot remain independent in the wild due to injuries, becoming orphaned, or unfortunately past abuse. The staff is very informative and kind. They truly care about the animals well being and educating the public. The facilities are as clean as a zoo can be, and the layout is playful yet organized. Its been a Folsom treasure for years, and will continue to be for years to come.

The zoo is not too big but the animals are worth seeing. It was amazing just to see the bear. He was walking around and eating and that was early in the morning and after that he was not awake. In order to see the bear I believe you should try and see him before it hits afternoon time. It was really cool to see deer walking around. The parking was free and it costs about $6-7 to get in. They had a barn which had goats and a horse and a few other animals. Overall it is a very nice zoo to visit and has some animals that they do not have at sac zoo.

Way better than the Sacramento Zoo! They rescue animals and include a little blurb near their habitat that tells that story of where the aninal came from and why they are there. All of the animals seem to actually enjoy being there. They all come out and come near the fence to see us and love to play! Its a smaller zoo but its not like typical zoos that take animals from the wild and stick them in a small cage. They have tons of volunteers that love caring for the animals. We saw an older gentleman that was feeding the deer salad and they loved it! Admission for adults is $7 on weekends and $6 on weekdays.

We’re new to the area and checked this place out a few weeks ago and really enjoyed ourselves. It was very budget friendly and a breeze to get in and out of for admission. Its not a huge zoo like San Diego or anything, but its a great way to spend some time we spent about 2 1/2 hours exploring the sanctuary, and we were able to walk back to some spots and re-see some animals. It wasn’t crowded at all, nothing felt cramped or uncomfortable. The animals seemed like they were really taken care of, cozy and clean! We did encounter some employees of the sanctuary and they were so friendly and knowledgeable, it was nice to talk to them and learn about the newcomer in the deer family. It was really sweet! We would definitely come back fo visit once or twice a year, we had a blast! Thanks for the fun time :)

Its a cute little zoo, perfect for taking the little ones. Theres a train ride nearby and a really nice park. They have little signs on all of the cages that tell you about the individual animals and how they acquired them and the peacocks just roam free! So watch out for peacock poo! We liked the bears the best, probably because they were eating snacks right near the edge of their enclosure so everyone got a good look at them.

Small town feel at the sanctuary. I recommend going during the winter, when the zoo is open at night and decorated with dozens of Christmas trees and thousands of lights. Parking has never been an issue, and there are nearby fun and educational things to do. There arent a lot of animals, but thats not really the point here. The highlight is definitely the bears or tiger. Good for kids.

Great place to visit with children. entrance about $ 7. Parking is free. You can ride the train for an extra $ 5. Why not 5 stars - We were there in the evening - came to a meeting with Santa, so it was already dark and some of the animals were poorly lit in the cages because of what they were not clearly visible, but this did not spoil the general impression and our mood.

This zoo isnt the largest, but its a fun place to visit. The animals that are here are rescued from a fire or something else. Theres a large playground outside, a cute gift shop, a train ride that takes you around twice & it gives you a great view of the area. Youre also right next to the Folsom library which has a little cafe in the same building. Theres peacocks, tigers, bears, skunks, cougars & lots more. Check it out.

Great sanctuary to visit. All the animals are rescue. The have everything from peafowl and racoons to tigers, wolves and bears. It is best to go in the morning if you want to see the animals out. During the holidays, they decorate the entire zoo site with an impressive number of lights and open the zoo at night. You can walk through all the lights and donated decorated Christmas trees, meet Santa and maybe even Santa Paws and ride the tiny train through more lights. The train cost in addition to the tickets, but you can be content knowing the money is going to help rescue animals that would often have no other place to go.

I was surprised just how well cared for the animals are, they are all healthy, hooves are trimmed, enclosures are clean, and they even gave all the animals little grass pads (real grass). All the enclosures have signs with facts about the animals, biographies about where the animal was rescued or acquired from, etc. Seems like tons of fun for kids, and they host birthday parties too. Overall very happy with the experience even having visited in a cold season

Love this Zoo. The fact that all the animals here are rescued from environments that would harm them and all the profits go toward helping other animals like them keeps me coming back to support them. Folsom City Zoo is a great place to visit. Here what to know before you go: Its small, and thats a good thing. You can get through the entire sanctuary in about an hour and see every animal. That means your kiddos can walk it comfortably. Its also fairly shaded making it a great place to visit, even on got days. Its more of a sanctuary, than a zoo. Meaning most of the animals have been rescued from bad situations, but unfortunately cant be returned to the wild. So when you visit this zoo, youre paying to give threatened animals a place to live peacefully. That being said, dont expect super exotic animals here. They have monkeys, mountain lions, tigers, and bears...oh my. (Couldnt resist, but probably shouldve ). Plus other animals native to California...oh, and wolves too! Finally, its a great for your budget. My wife, son, baby, and I got in for $20 bucks. Yes, $20 bucks total. If nothing else, visit this place for their mission to save mistreated animals who wouldnt survive without the support of the sanctuary.

It is a very nice place my grandson enjoyed it. One thing I think that could be improved is the train. It is an enjoyable ride but as a senior citizen who was with my grandson it would be nice if you could have a step stool for people who need it to get on the train. We come here every weekend with our now 2 year old. Obviously this is a small town Zoo, but always growing and improving. There are so many friendly employees, working hard all day to make this place what it is. The negatives Ive read and discussed with others are that it is a small zoo with barely any animals. It is a small town zoo, cmon. If youre expecting San Diego or even SF, go there instead. This is an incredible family place with more than enough to satisfy the little ones. The nearby train is great too. Im sure our little ones will outgrow it at some point, but we are enjoying it while it lasts. The annual membership is the way to go if youre planning on going more than once. Keep up the good work!

I cant believe I got scammed by a petting zoo. I paid all the admission for our group. Immediately afterwards we noticed there were no animals anywhere to be seen. None. Zero. The employee told me there are no animals that day because of the heat and they are not available to see or pet that day....then she told me no refunds....That is dishonest and is THEFT. You stole my money knowing I was paying for something that you could not provide. How is that a fair exchange? I basically drove there and paid a bunch of money for nothing. So upsetting.

What a great sanctuary zoo! Lovingly cared for habitats in beautiful natural surroundings. Because it is a sanctuary all the animals have stories, many of which are posted to read. The animals are those who could not be released back into the wild for one reason or another. Although small, the Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary is a wonderful place to visit, and is providing a great service to the animals and the community.
