Only 3 stars because it was closed. It should have been open when we arrived, Thursday at 1015 am, and we waited for 30 minutes. It looked cool from the outside. Next time we are in the area we will try again.

If youre coming to Muscle Shoals to tour FAME studios, you must also come here. Any music geeks should educate themselves with the work of W.C. Handy, critical to brining African American music to the masses.

Interesting facts presented by the hostess of Mr. Handys life and career, while viewing memorabilia. Original boyhood home is attached to the museum (moved from its original location elsewhere in town)

My wife has been running at this event for years. I love the atmosphere and especially the car shows. We both enjoy the music. Handy week is a good time for people to get and enjoy the Shoals area.

If it werent for the fact that a portion of WC Handys childhood home is attached, this wouldnt be much of a museum. Even with that feature, it still isnt a lot. A few display cases and pictures on the wall is pretty much the whole show. But standing in a portion of the preserved shack says plenty about his childhood. And the display cases do a remarkably good job of telling the mans story of achievement. Not to mention that its nice to see a permanent tribute to a Shoals native son who made a major mark on the world of music.

The Curator needs a raise. $5 to get in,cheap. Being from a place where W.C. Handy visited and now has a week festival, i learned so much more. Worth the visit,if nothing else, just go talk with yhe curator.
