Even though the parking lot will be full usually on weekends, youll still feel seclusion on this trail, especially on the Abineau section. Great view of Humphreys Peak from Abinesu, almost making it worth going up that side, but the Bear Jaw side is definitely more gradual if you want the easiest way. Beautiful area with dense aspen groves no matter how you slice it.

Be careful to not miss the signs. We totally missed a signed and went of trail 2 miles. All trail app helped us to navigate back and find exactly where the sign was.

Beautiful trail! Be prepared for sudden thunderstorms! Beware of utv side-by-sides going too fast on the forest road to the trail head parking lot, one collided into my truck full of boy scouts (no injuries).

Off the beaten path! Low crowds, stunning views, solitude all wrap this amazing loop hike like a present to your senses.

One of the best hikes to do in flagstaff during the end of summer or fall! It’s really easy to miss and not see the sign for the turn off of 151. Just have directions with you. Best to avoid this trail during heavy rain storms as it is very steep. I always bring my hiking poles for this hike. The views are worth it!

Fun 6.8 mile loop with nice scenery and nice shade! The trail has three parts, a uphill section, a flat section, and then a downhill section! All three are pretty easy and fun and are a blast! I would recommend that you start early at around 8:00 to get done at around 1:00 in the afternoon and bring at least 64 oz of water per person. If you aren’t a hiker or aren’t used to the altitude bring more but 64 oz is my starting point and I’m a pretty good hiker! The trail has some long steep parts but they only go for about a mile combined. I suggest going up bear jaw first and coming down abenieu because abenieu is slightly steeper and less gradual than bear jaw is! This hike is great in the summer at around July 1 through august 12! This hike is great for those kids that are adventurous and love being in new places! Keep in mind that it is 7 miles and you do get the hard part over first. When doing this hike wear shorts, socks, a loose t shirt, a hat, HIKING SHOES, and sunscreen! I stress the hiking shoes part because if you don’t wear them your feet will be miserable for a few days and coming down the mountain will hurt so bad! Trust me, I’ve had it happen. If you plan on taking lunch with you, pack something small and encourage your children (if you have any) to bring their own bag to carry stuff in and pack lightly! Your pack should have water, food, sunscreen, a raincoat, and some first aid supplies! What ever else you need is your business but pack lightly! If you have those teenagers that never seem to get off their phones, this is great for them because you can tell them ahead of time that there is no cell service on the hike and that you should absorb the forest and it’s beauty because it’s something so special that no matter what social media you put it on, it’ll never compare to being their in person! So what are you waiting for? Get outside and hike the trails of Arizona!

Amazing variety of trees. Dense old mossy growth. Lots of deadfalls. Steep up hill on bowth sides of trail. It was like walking through a green tunnel. The trail log is not being maintained.

Wonderful trail with plenty of surrounding aspens. Highly recommended alternative to Lockett Meadow if it is at full capacity.

Beautiful hike. Light in difficulty to start, but the last 45 min or so is pretty steep, narrow and more difficult, but had the beat views of aspen trees mixed in with pine trees. Didn’t continue to the Abineau trail, as the connecting bear jaw trail took us 1.5 hours and it was getting later and colder, but will be going back to finish all 7 miles!
