Lovely park! Theres a boat launch and off leash dog area. Theres the incredible Homestead buildings. Chickens, duck, geese. Very well kept facilities and nice trails. You can easily take a quick or long walk. Theres beach access to the Nooksack. Just a really nice place. The boat launch parking does require a discovery pass, but the parking lot at the homestead is free. Boat launch parking opens early. Homestead opens at 8am.

Hovander Homestead Park is an excellent public park in Ferndale. Theres plenty of parking and much to do once on property. Theres a playground, an old barn, a historic home, gardens, a lookout tower, and several farm animals like chickens and rabbits. Our toddler LOVED visiting this park and so did we!

One of my favorite places! A great place to spend outdoors with family and have a picnic. During the Spring and Summer there are farm animals to see. There is an old barn with vintage farm equipment, a beautiful garden and the original house in which you can have a guided tour and learn about the place.

Beautiful spring day. I wanted to go out on the boardwalk with my dog but unfortunately that is a no pets allowed area which makes sense since it is a wildlife refuge. The other password quite pleasant its very flat. Theres a good off leash area for dogs.

Such a beautiful park! The county keeps it so nicely maintained and puts a lot of work into the trails. Trail goes partially along the river and also Tennant Lake. There is a historical home here and farm animals that kids and adults really enjoy. Also an interpretive center for the lake along the trail with lots of great information and a couple of wooden towers to climb for nice views. I highly recommend visiting this park!

Nice park with varied attractions. They have live farm animals including ducks, fees and rabbits to interact with, exhibits including a blacksmith shop and antique farm equipment, a fragrance garden and boardwalk through the swamp, and plenty of kids playground stuff. Probably the most interesting thing to do in Ferndale.

Love this spot! Great step back in time, with lovely views of Mount Baker. My girlfriend wanted to stop here on our way back from Seattle. She had visited the park a long time ago, I honestly had never heard of it. Its very nice, free, with lots of parking. All of the barns and buildings were locked up tight when we were there, I believe its seasonal. Well be stopping in again next summer to see it then.

This is a very special park for a few reasons: the animals during the warmer seasons, the beautiful trees all year round, the lily pads, the fragrance garden, the interpretive center, the towers, but the real crowning glory is the boardwalk. If its the rainy season, the trail will flood. Wear rain boots. You can get to the shore of the Nooksack river if you go thru some trodden trails in the woods. Its gorgeous back there, but be sure to wear bug spray for the mosquitos. It is a wetlands reclamation park so this is their home.

Great place to take kids on a nice or cloudy day. Has long trails, play ground, lots of picnic benches that are clumped and spread out. Also has some animals to look at (not pet) like chickens, geese, bunnies and sometimes cows. Great open area for kids to run around in and I feel safe hey won’t go far or get harmed anywhere. Also, good venue for lots of different large or small events! All around wonderful park

I love this park however their bunnies need to be released. Two of them look super depressed. I just wish at they gave them a better scenery and fresh greens. Also, all the goats bully the sheep for food and space all the time. They need to be separated! Otherwise, this is a good space for kids. Master Garden is absolutely an inspiring place for novices like myself. Thank you gardeners for educating the public about all kinds of plants that you can grow here!

There is a cool old tower that once you climb you can see a beautiful view of a small lake and marsh area. Also there is an amazing garden full of THE most aromatic herbs. Any herb you can think of and ones you never thought of is growing there. Lean over and smell fresh curry leaves, lavendar, rosemary and many variations of mint including chocolate. I LOVED that part. Reason Im giving the place 3 stars is because those stars belong to the landscapists/gardeners. Id give it zero stars if it werent for that. Im not at all impressed that this is supposed to be a sanctuary for wildfowl that inhabits the area and is supposed to have a nice boardwalk for visitors to see the various birds that make their home there. Instead there was a barricade to keep visitors from walking the boardwalk so that hunters could shoot the wildfowl. You would never see a wildlife sanctuary doubling as a hunting ground in Canada where I live. Sickening. Shame on whoever gave the go ahead for hunters to ruin such a nice place!

This is a great park for multiple reasons: there is a trail going from Slater Rd to Main St in Ferndale- not a bad jog. There is an off leash dog area in a field for your furry friends to romp. There is a lovely fragrance garden that I like to visit year round, but is obviously at its best in late spring, a watchtower over looking tennant lake can also be found there. You can find plenty of picnic space and the farm and garden is a nice place to view and stroll. Its pretty alright.

Its a great park to walk in. You can definitely find a lot of land to walk. If you have a dog, you should take it there. I also like the small lighthouse. You get to see chickens and bunnies too. They have swings and slides for kids too if you like going on them. Its a nice environment when the weather is good. If you go in winter then make sure to wear something warm because youd have to walk a long distance before reaching the sidewalk or your car.

One of our all-time favorite parks. My only problem is with the folks who dont pay attention to the on-leash vs. off-leash signs for the puppers.Dont get me wrong, I love a happy dog running around freely, but I have a family who depend on their service dog, and a lot of casual dog owners dont understand that an off leash dog coming over to say hi or play can create a huge problem. There are fantastic off-leash areas at this park, but the main picnic and playground areas are NOT included.
