One of my favorite local trails and a perfect intensity level for those with younger kids or older folks who arent quite up to the task of the more challenging hikes in the area. Go in the spring and hear the peepers from the overlook platform.

With few exceptions, this conservation area being an important one, the Manhan River cannot be easily approached or navigated. It winds through roadless bottom land with few crossings. Dont even think of paddling it from Southampton to Easthampton. It is a maze of deadfalls and strainers only suitable for nimble muskrats. You get the idea. From Ranch Avenue, the Stuart Beckley Trail takes you to the waterside after passing through a variety of habitats. The trail is named for the longtime Easthampton town planner who went east to become a town administrator a few years ago. The trek, maybe 25 minutes each way, meets my minimum criteria for a hike rather than a walk. It seems pleasant enough to me and my dear wife, so I dont understand the other review.Beyond one side trail, further explorations are impossible in this dense wilderness unless you happen to be a smaller mammal. Its a jungle. Look for mushrooms.Near trails end, there is a viewing platform above an oxbow. If your timing is right the resident beaver may perform for your further enjoyment.
