Hello all I visited the Massachusetts Audubon Society Arcadia Sanctuary for the first time today. I very much enjoyed my walk out to visit the observation tower while I was there. This Sanctuary is a precious little gem of nature found just south of the historic Connecticut River Oxbow near Hadley Massachusetts. Though my visit was off season in terms of most bird enters the most migratory bird patterns I still very much enjoyed the opportunity to see the New England Classics like a redheaded woodpecker a Canada Goose and Downy woodpeckers and it was just a lot of fun to just get out and then nature into a place Id never explored before. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who was even remotely outdoorsy or likes wildlife conservation and and the other great part is its super super super kid friendly so if youre youre working parent and you have a week free free time during the weekend or something this is a great place just go for a walk with the kids and help me raise them to be the next major hero or whatever and its just a really friendly place to go I have a lot of fun.
I love nature and wildlife. Its a great way to decompress after a stressful week and get away from the scum of the city. Not that everyone in the city is scum, but hey its rough out there...so this place is for you if your having blood pressure problems and you need to do some relaxation breathing and get back down to earth.
Easy hiking trails through the woods and along the river. Lots of wildlife if you like that kind of thing. There is a visitor center and bathrooms for convenience. A field for kids to run around in and places for picnic lunches. A good place for a few hou r s or afternoon with the family.
Magnificent place, have over 4 miles of trails. Can spend all day there, so much to see. The trails are well maintained and clear. One thing come prepared, some water, snacks, sunscreen and bug spray. The time I went May the MOSQUITOS were eaten me like crazy. Could not stand still for a minute. I had to leave earlier than I wanted to . Next visit, bug spray.
This wildlife refuge offers interconnecting trails in a peaceful setting, partially along an oxbow and partially nestled in a gently hilly forest. It is part of Mass Audubon but is also free to Northampton and Easthampton residents, EBT cardholders, and veterans in the summer. Otherwise, a $4 donation is suggested to access the trails. There are benches here and there along the trails for a break or a picnic, and there is a visitor center that offers programs for adults and children across the seasons.
A very nice place for short, easy walks in the beautiful woods. I take my daughter here all the time. Its incredibly peaceful, and an absolutely great way to kill an hour or two.
Tom and I went up to listen to some good music
This is a very good place to go hiking, I would definitely recommend checking this place out!
I visited this place in April and saw bald eagle nests, a great blue heron rookery and great horned owl nests. Very worth going.
Many trails, canoe or kayak , great place to explore nature and exercise. Close to N. Hampton
Disappointed! Does not allow pets. Said it will disturbe the wildlife. Well, news flash, my husky is wildlife. He is also my son and should be allowed here to enjoy it like all humans do.
Its a beautiful wildlife sanctuary, truly a treat to wander around during the early fall
Very nice peacful place to relax and reflecr
This is a wonderful nature site with well marked trials to observe birds and nature. Free for residents of Northampton and Easthampton.
Best nature sanctuary for a hundred miles around.
A bit on the small size, but perhaps thats a feature and not a fault. Buggy, to be expected; great easy hikes with a beautiful river begging to be paddled. Right on the bike path, and this is a winning spot!
A great place to come for walks, interesting floodplain forest, plants, birds, etc.
