Super posh renovated bank building in downtown Durham, converted into a museum, restaurant, and hotel. The hotel staff were very accommodating during my stay, and really went above and beyond! Super comfortable King size bed, and amazing views from my corner room! I highly recommend checking it out whether you are a local, or just visiting the area. It was fun riding the electric scooters around downtown, and made it easy to get back and forth from the hotel. Definitely plan to come back again!

Our stay at the 21C Museum Hotel in Durham was great! Donald greeted us at the front door and was always happy to see us when we were coming and going. And Travis, the bartender, gave us great service and even better drinks ( highly recommend the pretty in pink). The hotel was very dog friendly which worked out in our favor since we try to bring our dog everywhere with us. Our room was very well kept and had a great view and we even got a chance to use the gym which had more than enough equipment that looked pretty much brand new. Highly recommend staying here!

We stayed at this hotel for four days, front desk are not friendly, valet parking is way too expensive $25 per night, but the gentleman’s that helps you are very polite and nice. They dont offer room service that is mean you are responsible to do you own bed, pick up the trash and towels in a bag and put outside of the door, I understand is Covid precautions, but this is too much for the rate that charges per night.Do not take anything from the small area at the entrance that is said “ Complementary “ they will charge you.Location, history and decoration are ok

Though Ive never stayed at the 21C, Ive had lots of experiences with it—it is one of my favorite photo locations in Durham! Weve photographed one gorgeous wedding here, and Ive had several other sessions here over the years, from wedding day First Looks to engagement session to bridal sessions. The basement vault is one of the most visually striking spots, and Ive made some of my all-time favorite photos in it. Staff are always helpful and kind when booking session times. The terrace suites are perfect for getting ready; the food courtesy of Counting House was excellent; the ballroom drips with art deco elegance to striking effect; and the staff managed guest flow perfectly in order to execute the flip from ceremony to reception space. Absolutely love it here—cannot recommend 21C, its staff and environs enough!(On a separate, personal note, we have taken advantage of massage services at the spa—why not, with such great luxury amenities so close to home?—and found both the massage therapists and the spa atmosphere calm and rejuvenating. Thanks, yall!)

Very trendy hotel with slow check in service. Its interesting and has a gallery inside. It is a converted bank building but for me it just didnt work well. I felt like I was staying in a bank and not a hotel. The vibe is just a bit off. The lighting made our room seem dark and unwelcoming. The phone didnt work. Some of the original floors are office feeling. It seems too trendy for comfort. But it is very artistic and interesting.

There are so many great things to share about this boutique hotel. Im going back as a retreat! You must see the art exhibits and installations, if you enjoy art, history, and architecture. The amenities are very good. If you are looking for a pool, stay elsewhere. This is an old bank building where the below ground vault has been preserved! Enjoy the downtown location, with music, food, shopping, and parks within walking distance. Staff members are professional, be sure to tip the doorman! Valet parking and laundry services are available. Did I mention the on-site restaurant, the Counting House is amazing!

I was very disappointed with this hotel. I booked a a two night stay on 30 Oct - 1 Nov, but when I got there and checked in I was stunned and shocked because the pictures I saw on the internet did not match my expectations in person. The room smell like sewage so I cancel the second night and booked into the Washington Duke and Golf Club Hotel which is a Five Star☆☆☆☆☆. We normally stay at the Umstead Resort and Spa a Forbes ☆☆☆☆☆, but my wife wanted to give this hotel a try because the pictures looked nice on the internet but looks can be very deceptive!!I asked and never received a print out of my bill when I checked out instead the receptionist told me, I would receive it through my email, and I still never got a copy of the bill. When I looked at my American Express Platinum card it showed a separate charge for $7.54 that is why that hotel should print and give you a copy of your bill to view right there so there are no surprises.I would not recommend nor stay there again! Accor should drop this hotel from its portfolio because 21c Museum Hotels around the world would put this particular property in the basement.

I wish Id known the beauty of this place prior to checking in. If I had, Id have spent more time there exploring rather than literally showing up to bathe and sleep. It is a little gem right in the midst of Durham excitement and nightlife and what little I did see of it was spectacular. I would absolutely stay here again, especially with friends to hang out and socialize and take what Im sure would be really beautiful pics. Sorry for the low quality ones Im posting... I was tired and it was late lol. I forget names, but both people I spoke to (and the lady I spoke to during the day, assisted me with check in, and also with check out) were magnificent in regards to their professionalism and customer service. Interesting Boutique hotel in downtown Durham. The deluxe room has a generous size with a separate living area and bedroom. Both rooms are equipped with a big flat screen tv. The room also has a mini bar and Nespresso coffee machine. The bathroom has a good size, I especially liked the large shower with great water pressure. Downstairs is a restaurant and bar where they serve between 6:00 am - 10:00 am breakfast ala cart. The hotel also offer valet parking for $25 per night. Or you park by your self in one of the parking garages near by.

Wonderfully eclectic hotel in downtown Durham. There is an art museum on floors 1 and 2, and the entire space is decorated in a trendy, hip way. On the bottom floor, you can visit the old bank vault which has couches inside for relaxation, and they host private functions there from time to time. The rooms were nice, comfortable and well appointed. I only knocked one star off due to the lack of a fridge to store your own food or beverages. Im not a big eater when I travel and had no place to stash leftovers. Instead you get a minibar. Overall, I enjoyed my stay and would return again!

My goal now is to visit each 21c Museum Hotel! I loved my time in Durham. Staff were incredible, room was gorgeous, location perfect, art museum and bank vault fascinating. Very cool adaptive reuse of an old building and bank. But the elevators were pretty janky and there seemed to be a lack of information about the hotel. There was yoga on Sunday and it wasnt advertised? Weird. The biggest problem was the room wasnt clean when we got in (hadnt been vacuumed) and they failed to clean our room on the next day. We had to call for extra towels and coffee pods. Cheap behavior for a hotel that is trying to be fancy and is pretty expensive for what you get. Finally, the lighting is odd. The euro-style light switches are fine, but add some better lighting...either too dark or bright in the rooms.

If youre ever looking for a restaurant + hotel + art museum, 21C Museum Hotel Durham has it all. Thoughtfully designed, this building has unique surprises at every corner inside. Make sure to take a selfie with one of the iconic pink penguins. Their restaurant, the Counting House has knowledgeable staff that understands the food fare. The menu is different every week and artistic. Gender neutral bathrooms are a plus! One of my favorite gems in Durham! Parking can be found on the street or in the parking deck nearby. The valet service at the front door is always friendly. Check out the old bank vault downstairs before you leave. Note that admission to the art gallery is free.

This hotel caters to adult guests, and is not, under 12, child friendly. Very little to do for kids inside the hotel, no pool, luckily the weather was nice during our stay. We booked the room due to a wedding block discount. The king bed was nice, but not enough room for 2 adults and 2 children. We had room for one roll away bed, and one slept on the floor. The bathroom sink was clogged and drained very slowly. The valets were very friendly, but service was costly. We didnt your the museum much but it seem to have some unique pieces. The hotel is located in the heart of Durham and within walking distance of many restaurants, bars and shops.

I think Im just not a boutique hotel person, so the things I didnt like might not be an issue for others, but the lighting in the room was inadequate and hard to figure out how to turn on, some didnt seem to work, the shade was broken - just the odd little stuff thats often an issue in boutique hotels. I was there for work, but the only place to sit were odd benches and a round table, hard to type/use a laptop at. The halls are not carpeted so the sound in the hallway echoes a great deal and the downtown location means drunk people being loud in the echo-y hallways just often enough to make sleep elusive. This all said, the staff is very nice, the place is overall classy, and the art gallery and restaurant were excellent. It seemed a perfect place to stay if on a kid-free vacation if you planned to really take in their lovely downtown. If you need to work/sleep, I might pick somewhere else.

I babysat at this hotel once. I considered staying here for my anniversary prior to babysitting here. All I can say is I would not get a standard room here. It is not worth the money. It reminds me of a cheap NYC apartment with a minibar, flat screen and purple lit mirror in the bathroom. The pictures definitely looked better than the actual room. You can tell this building was pretty old and they just did a few minor upgrades to make it a hotel. I will say the museum part of it was BEAUTIFUL. So if that is all youre coming for then its perfect for you. We love museums and wanted to stay there because of it. But I dont want to pay that kind of money if the room accommodations are not met with the same integrity the museum has.
