Quick stop because the spring is right next to the highway. The colors make it seem fake, but it appears to natural up close. The water was cold though when touching it in a tub on the back side. Its worth stopping since it takes almost no time to get to it...but dont drive out of your way

We were looking for hot springs where you can actually dip yourself into the water. But insted found this. We visited it in November, the water was barely warm, it comes from the top and goes down, so yoh cannot dip your body into it . It is very beautiful though, located right next to the road.

Easy to miss. Turn out on the side of the road at the top of the hill. Large parking area. Warm, mineral filled waters. You cannot climb on it. Not too much to do other than spend a few minutes enjoying. Still neat to experience it.

We just happened to see this hot spring off the side of the highway.... Its really right there on the side of the highway. Theres not too much to it, but my kids thought it was really neat. I liked that they had a plaque with the history of it and some general info about hot springs. They could touch the water and walk around it. Oh, and its all free too!

Right off the highway, free, and pretty cool to see a natural spring giving off hot/warm water. You arent supposed to climb on it, but people were anyway ️. The yellows and mineral deposits are very captivating. A quick and interesting stop for anyone.

The water is nice & warm. No trash littered around. Most people pay attention to the sign to NOT climb on the mineral rock. Would be nice if the little tub was cleaned out & maintained, but not sure if that is supposed to be there. (It looks like it has been there at least a few years!) Great place to enjoy a bit of nature. The large plaque is fading, but the history is still readable.

Such a nice little drive and place to pull over right off the road. There kids had a good time getting out to stretch and see an amazing natural site. The info board is nice but I wish it had a little more about the spring including water temp and more recent history. We will bring family to visit next time they are in town!

You can easily it from your car if you dont want to get out. There is a small primitive trail that goes down the side for a better view. Also a historical info plaque.

I was looking for and expecting a hot springs... If I had just found it off the side of the road I would have been excited but it was a bit underwhelming to be honest. Its not hot, it seems somewhat man-made. Im sure the calcium deposit is legit but there are pipes sticking out of it here and there... Its a nice little road side distraction if you need to get out and stretch your legs. Im fairly certain all the hot water is pumped to the nearby KOA camps pool.

Review №77

Its a bubbling hot spring literally next to the side of the road. Worth the short 15-20 minute drive from Durango to wander around and touch the water. Not the type of hot spring for bathing, though. Stay on Highway 550 and just look for a big rock pile on the right side of the road (if coming from Durango).

Re
Review №78

Stopped here for the 1st time and it was ok. Not really exciting just a volcano looking pile of rocks with hot water oozing out. There was a bath tub under one of the edges. Im assuming someone put it there to be able to catch some water and soak in. It did smell like sulfer and be careful cause the red coloring from the rocks stains clothes and gets on the soles of your shoes and you will track it into your vehicle. Pretty cool for just a quick stop.

This is a great road side pull off spot. Very easy to find with a wonderfully done historically sign to fill in any passer by on the importance of the spot. The water is warm but be careful if you plan on climbing around on this rock water formation it is slick. If you would enjoy a soke you will even find a bath tub. So make it a point to see pinkerton hot springs you will be happy you did.

Worth the stop! We shot a 360 image of this roadside attraction and were curious to learn more. After some research, this is what we learned:In the early 1800s, Jame Pinkerton built a resort centered around hot springs that touted miraculous healing properties. Located along the Million Dollar Highway just 13 miles north of Durango, tourists would travel to the famous Pinkerton Resort to drink and swim in the water for health and relaxation. The lodge also served as a speakeasy during the prohibition in the 1920s. Sadly, the resort burned down three times. Marilyn Monroe apparently visited just before the last and final fire. The hot spring water at this roadside attraction is natural, but the rock formation was built by the Colorado Department of Transportation to help divert the springs from the opposite side of the road. Natural Hot Springs are formed from water seeping into deep fractures thousands of feet in the earth, where its heated up then returns to the top, creating hot springs up to 105 degrees.
