COOL PLACE! Started 75 years ago as a neighborhood bar, it hosted shows by rock and blues musicians for decades under various names such as Sign Of The Zodiac, Mr. Lous, The Blue Rose, etc. and was eventually closed. The conversion to a church never happened and the original management of Bookies Club 870 took it over in 2013. Bookies was a punk-New Wave concert nightclub from 1978 to 1982 presenting concerts by The Police, Ultravox, The Dead Boys, The Damned, and many other British and American recording artists. The new Bookies Club 870 will continue in that tradition. This is NOT to be confused with Bookies Sports Bar downtown, which has no connection with the original.
