The museum is quite impressive. Not only does it provide a detailed account of the African American experience from the days of slavery, but it has an in-depth view into Detroit’s own rich and diverse history. I’m very happy my family and I came during our time in Detroit. We left with a level of knowledge we did not have before and a renewed sense of the importance of allyship between marginalized communities to ensure equity for all.

My sister and I had time for one museum. We were so happy we choose right. It was a free day, so no admission. The entrance is breathtaking and set the stage. We saw an exhibit on hair and one on black seamstresses/fashion creators through history (mindblowing). The Still We Rise piece was humbling and eye opening. To experience that history on your own, the way it was designed really put things together (Im a visual learner). Great for all ages, whether your fully knowledgeable or not. They also had an event downstairs and I was able to purchase from local artists and jewelry makers. Cannot wait to visit again.

An architectural wonder of a building. The grand entry hall is an acoustic master piece. I had no idea that it could take a soft voice and amplify it into the round of this huge space. And when it happened to me - the next voice I heard was that of MLK and his presence - I have a dream...The Queen art work is colorful, creative, beautiful, happy, sad and wide ranging in its representation of different art forms. A wonderful gift from CC Pounder to any art patron that gets to see it.
