I always love visiting the History Colorado Museum! I was last there around 2017, so they have new exhibits and art installations, including one about the history ans culture of the Ute Nation, Hecho en Colorado (pieces created by Chicano/a/x, latino/a/x artists), and an exhibit with hundred items celebrating the centennial state. They even had some great art installations by Gregg Deal and Adri Norris. So Powerful. And even though some of the interactive stuff was closed down or required styluses to interact with, it was still a good time, and many powerful moments.Dont want to spoil the whole museum for you, so here are only a few pictures to hopefully convince you how worthwhile it is to go right now!

Timed entry was great, the museum was not very crowded and I definitely felt safe. Styluses were provided for the touch screen interactive exhibits which was really nice, and staff were keeping things clean and regularly wiping down surfaces. Amazing and comprehensive museum that covers the history of Colorado in great detail. Quite a large museum that can easily take more than 1-2 hours if you like to visit exhibits and check every detail. Wide ranging exhibits and artifacts and quite a few interactive ones which are fantastic for kids and interesting for adults.Went during Denver arts week which happens during the first Saturday of November where multiple art museums graciously open up their doors for free between 5-10pm.Museum admission is not expensive on most other days and it’s a fantastic way to get a comprehensive view of Denver is an extremely short period of time. Great for tourists who have the time to learn about the city and locals with families who want to start giving kids great knowledge about the history all around them.

During our weekday visit there were lots of school groups so be prepared for that.I loved the exhibit about beer, especially the vintage Coors ads. My family has worked at and distributed Coors beer so I have a bit of a personal tie but even if I didnt I think I would have gotten a kick out of the 1970s era mountain man & woman (this aint no flat lander beer) ads

We had already been on the Coors Brewery tour and found that info helpful in viewing their Beer Here exhibit. We enjoyed all the old saloon pictures in the beginning. The museum building is very nice and easy to get around. We went on a Sunday as meter street parking is free. It was not crowded on the day we went. A wonderful and very underappreciated look at Colorado history in this museum. They make an effort to offer a more inclusive picture and tell a variety of different stores to illustrate the diversity of this state. They try to show some of the cool, current things as well as take a look some tougher subjects in a fair, respectful light. Overall, its a great way to learn about the history of Colorado.

It has mini town area complete with a general store, old fashioned car, prairie house, & barn (with fun slide & chicken coup to collect eggs). We also saw the mining exhibit (no detail excluded), the Colorado pop culture exhibit (don’t know the official name), and the dust bowl exhibit (complete with a theater room to recreate living through the dust storm inside a prairie house). The group lunch room in the basement is gorgeous! It recreates camping in the Colorado mountains! I know we only saw a smidge if this medium. Three stories of static and interactive exhibits in a well thought out museum. There is a giant game board on the first floor and a walk-through silver mine that you are taken to by way of a faux mine shaft elevator that shakes and rattles on its way down. There is also a virtual old car ride and a ski jump. Not everything is happy times, however. The tone turns darker as there are plenty of exhibits of the more unseemly side of Colorados history such as the KKK and a walk-through Japanese internment camp. All together this is a well balanced museum with plenty of hands on exhibits to keep all ages intellectually stimulated and yearning to know more. A big plus is the connected small dining shop that sells soups, sandwiches, salads and drinks so you can stay focused on all the Center has to offer without a growling stomach getting in the way!

I generally enjoyed my recent visit to the museum with a school group. Our guide was top-notch, and the students found the exhibits interesting and fun. They particularly enjoyed the recreations: the Dust Bowl cabin, the old motorcar, the trading post, the mining elevator. As with many museums, adult interests were gratified by other objects nearby, longer texts or smaller artifacts. I noticed, but did not have time to view, a more sophisticated exhibit related to the Chicano Freedom Movement. I hope to return soon for that, and to see if there are other presentations beyond the range of our elementary social studies program. History belongs to everyone... even adults!
