Such a lovely and spacious studio! We attended their date night program, which we thought was one of our funnest dates in the city. A great option for total beginners. We worked with our awesome instructor Sarah who was phenomenally helpful and kind. She helped us perfect our pieces and salvage the ones that weren’t the best. Though it was sort of pricy, I think it’s ultimately a fairly priced process since we each left with three pieces and they had to glaze and kiln our pottery for a few weeks after our visit. Absolutely loved our experience here!

Came here for my mom’s birthday surprise. Our instructor Christina was very and helpful especially with my little sister. We were told to wait 4-6 weeks for everything to be finished. The 6 week mark came and I didn’t hear anything about the pieces being ready. I called and couldn’t get a straight answer and was told they had to check with the instructor. I got an email from Christina saying she was waiting on a few more pieces to finish up. The next day I received another email saying everything was finished. I went to pick up everything & when I got my bag I tried to check it before I left. The receptionist asked me to move from the front desk to the couches. Not a big deal, but it really rubbed me the wrong way. I would have check the bag & left within 2 minutes.

My husband, in-laws, and I signed up for a date night and had a great time! Our instructor, Alana, was super helpful, funny, and kind. We’re really excited to see our finished pieces and can’t wait to go back to MudFire for another date night.

Great if you have experience and are looking for community and not instruction - as a beginner I didn’t feel very supported and the trial membership is tricky, be sure to read the fine print and cancel far in advance. I tried to cancel on the last day of my trial and was told it was too late, I needed to cancel 2 weeks prior (one week into the trial) frankly I was sent a rude email telling me that no one else has issue with cancellation policy. Supplies and resources are great, just not for beginners!

Best clay studio Ive seen yet! It works like a gym membership and is a bit pricey for me because I dont live close enough to use it often. But, the facility is roomy, clean, has a huge variety of clays and glazes and fires all the time. The staff (volunteers?) went above and beyond in helping us get acclimated and we were throwing right away. Everyone there was peaceful, productive, and helpful.Clay Zen. Love it here

My wife and I did the date night - Molly was fantastic! She showed us the ropes, helped us out when we struggled (we struggled a lot...), and was an overall awesome person! The studio seemed like a tight knit family, which was awesome to see in the hustle and bustle of Atlanta. We will definitely be coming back!

I took my wife here for a class to celebrate our anniversary. We had a thrilling time, although I probably dont have a career as a potter in my future :-) My wife loved it. Our instructor Nadya was a lot of fun and informative. We just picked up our creations---theyll make fun mementos. Hope to see you all next year.

We did the date night and had a really great time. Our instructor Caroline made it look easy and we didnt think we would be able to do it. She taught so well that we really enjoyed the learning process and walked away feeling like we achieved something pretty amazing. I will be recommending this to friends :)

We scheduled a date night via email. Responses were quick and pleasant. After a tour of the shop and a quick demonstration, Meredith guided us through the creation of a few bowls and cups, and helped us pick out glazes for each piece. We cant wait to come back in a few weeks to pick up the finished pieces. Very pleased with the experience. Highly recommended!

We had a couples date night with some friends of ours and came here. We had no idea what we would be getting ourselves into or what we would be doing. We arrived and were greeted by the staff immediately and were told our instructor would be with us shortly. We met with our instructor and got a brief tour/history of the building. Zipporah was really great. She was very clear and patient with us. We did the best we could and I think we will come out with a couple winners. Looking forward to picking up our pieces. Thanks!

It actually makes me really sad to leave such a low star review. My fiancé took me here as a surprise for my birthday and we had an absolute blast and the woman who was helping us was really great. We were told 4-6 weeks until we could come collect our pieces, it wasn’t until over two months later that we were notified they were ready. While it was sad to have to wait for them, i could understand the delay. However, when we picked them up all but one of my pieces were colored incorrectly, i only chose two colors. Everything but the mug was a non food safe color and the mug was something obviously i could use to drink out of. Well, i now have a useless mug because all the colors were mucked up and the non food safe color ended up on it. Aside from the colors it looked like they were dipped in wax haphazardly as well as the actual glaze. I was actually surprisingly upset and annoyed at the carelessness of finishing our pieces. I won’t be back.

Went here for the first time today with my coworkers for our company quarterly event. We had two instructors who gave us a tour of the facility and gallery (which was super cool). They were very hands-on and detailed when giving us instructions. Cannot wait to see how our products turn out!

MudFire Studio and Gallery is a hidden gem in the rough located in Decatur. My wife and sister-in-law attended a date night here, totaling $150 or $50 a person. We were greeted by our individual instructor for hands on instructions on the studio, a tour of the gallery, and a quick how-to on clay throwing.A few things I learnt, firstly clay throwing is messy! You will get clay all over your hands and arms and areas of your pants, shirt, and shoes. Buyer beware and definitely only wear clothing you’re comfortable with getting dirty.Secondly, this is not an easy art expression. YouTube and instructor tutorials do not give justice to the difficulty in setting and creating your piece. Your instructor will definitely assist you where needed, but don’t expect a perfect piece your first few times.Lastly, this is an extremely fun date night idea. You are given free reign on what you would like to create and what color scheme your instructor sets once you complete. The ability to set and mold your piece is extremely cathartic and a great stress reliever.Once you complete your date night, it takes approximately 4-6 weeks for the clay to settle and be painted (not the correct word for this but I forget what exactly it is called)Overall, highly recommended here and a great place to bring friends and family for some easy fun.

This is a great studio and gallery! I love the holiday sale. They invite members of the studio as well as artists from across the country to put pots in the sale. The variety is so amazing the have Christmas ornaments from $5 to amazing vases and sculpture s that might get up into the hundreds ( not sure what the most expensive piece is) but there are great gifts for everyone. The owners and staff are really amazing and helpful! Also they even had some brownies to snack on as you shopped on small business Saturday! If you havent been by you really need to check it out!

Popped in to see what the studio was about, was given a personal tour by the ranger on duty as she explained the membership system of the studio (vs. offering classes). Ended my time by perusing the extensive pieces for purchase in the gallery space and walked out with my now favorite mug. :)

I took my girlfriend here for something fun to do. It was a good experience and we both had fun. You get your items about 2 weeks after you make them as they have to go in the fire. We got a phone cal saying our things were ready. However, when it was time for us to pick up our things no-one answered the door or the telephone. I tried back 2 days later and again no one answered the door or telephone although I went during business hours. After a third time of basically being ignored I said forget it. It costs too much money( $109) to not receive our things and we never got to see our finished product. We will not be going back.

Last year we did the 6 week summer special. This is the only place I found close enough (45+ mins away) that allowed full acess to a pottery studio with freedom to make just about anything we wanted. We began in June so that it ended right before we went on vacation. There are 8-10 wheels available for throwing and 3 long tables for building. You have access to just about any tool you would need including a slab roller and assigned shelves for your work. The rangers were somewhat helpful but some didnt seem very knowledgable (some of the bowls they demonstrated for my boyfriend ended up cracking & splitting due to poor construction). I couldnt demonstrate for him very well based on my past experience (2 years) because I learned to throw with long nails. Koko one of the studio residents was the most helpful with helping him learn. We went in just about 2x a week to get the most of our experience, sometimes we went in & our things hadnt been fired so we started calling ahead. The first week of July came along & we had about 12 items that still hadnt bisque fired because they said it was too hot (understandable but our time was running out). We then spoke to Dathney (owner)& told her we were going on vacation the next week & our session would be expired but our things hadnt been fired so we could glaze them. She told us not to worry about it, they would fire them by the time we got back & put them to the side so we could glaze them then, we just werent allowed to make anything new after the experiation date... 2 weeks later we get back from vacation to glaze our things. The ranger on duty was Clay, we asked him where our pots had been stored & help helped us find them. As we were getting ready to glaze them he started questioning us on what we were doing, so we told him what Dathney was allowing us to do. He basically told us we were liars & needed to leave or he was going to CALL THE POLICE, without even speaking to Dathney about it. My boyfriend & Clay got into a heated argument in the middle of the studio still threatening to call the police, even knowing how far we drove. We eventually ignored him & continued to glaze our work. The police didnt show so we placed them out on the shelves with a note for Dathney. A week later we came to get our things, a flower from my pitcher had fallen off and been lost, the fish I made strategically placed on stilts with a note & a large cookie, came out &it was obviously displaced so the glaze stuck to the cookie and broke my fish, a ranger left a note saying I owed them money for the ruined cookie. Once your items go into the keln room you just have to hope they make it out alive or dont get eaten by the keln. Sign all or your work AND take pictures of them, small items may never be seen again. If it wasnt for our AWFUL EXPERIENCE WITH CLAY we would have been back again this year, despite lost items we had fun.
