Great recreation center. Great staff and clean facilities. They overhauled some areas during the last year, great improvement. I have coached for their youth leagues for many years. This is a place our family visits often. Recommend you join.

Very well maintained Rec center and the staff was very inviting and helpful. I attended a rock wall birthday party with my 10 year old and everyone had a blast. I was impressed enough to ask about other amenities offered there. I would definitely recommend this facility to other people.

I like the day pass option. I travel a lot so a year membership didnt immediately make sense. Doing the math though it is extremely affordable even for a non resident (you pay a higher price is you live outside the township) great pace to stay active not recommended for competitive lifters. Multiple courts and Olympic swimming pool. Honestly five stars if they had more weekend hours.

I have been a long good standing member at Washington Township rec center. I am a resident . I use the facilities as do my children. I have been very pleased until today.I have a legitimate ailment that is covered in the ada guidelines that holds me back from wearing a mask. This is especially a hindering issue when I use the fitness room. I workout regularly to help combat this issue and maintain good health so I can have a better quality of life.Today- August 8,2020 8:36 am -I was denied access because I was unable to wear a mask. When I explained and was asked specifically what my condition was I did not wish to disclose that information citing to the manager that ada and hippa laws apply to disclosure. The gentleman blatantly told me hippa and ada do not matter. This was also addressed by governor Dewine to be understanding in this situation as he addressed Ohio recently.I left and after called and talked to this person who I, because I need to maintain myself, told them my condition and he said that was all he needed to know for next time. Completely felt discriminated against and violated to have to share my personal information to be able use a facility that my taxes contribute to paying for. Also my funds help support with membership and many other programs my family optionally use there to help in our community because we are proud of it.I am extremely disappointed, was discriminated against, and violated for having a medical condition today at OUR facility for wanting to maintain my health and support OUR community. Please correct this as I do not wish to withdraw my contributions as a good standing citizen to this facility but definitely will if this continues. Sad day.

Overall great rec center except for willingness to accommodate folks with special needs. The pool is wonderful, the staff are great for the most part and they really try their best to be helpful. But there is only a dinghy place for handicapped folks to shower and change and despite requests there is little improvement over the years.Today my special needs handicapped daughter tried to bounce the ball AROUND the basketball court, far away from folks playing pickleball. I asked the folks playing BEFORE I let her bounce and no one complained. I tried other courts but none were available. But turns out one of the players complained to the supervisor. What a heartless individual! My issue was that the supervisor, instead of trying to reason with this individual and at least try to be accommodating, they kicked out my handicapped daughter. And a whole bunch of folks just watched as my daughter cried all the way out. Dont folks have a heart for the differently abled? For Gods sake this is a recreation center not the center court at Wimbledon!

I went to the park it was lovely. Lots of shade. Beautiful place to enjoy nature and the kids had a great time on the playground. One playground was closed...not sure why... but it was lovely. Not sure if there are public restrooms at the park...i just saw portable toilets. I didnt go in the rec center, but I was told there was a pool and that there are swimming lessons offered.

This place is great. We were guests for a birthday party but all the different options for parties had all of the adults amazed. We joked we all wanted birthday parties there, but are grateful we got to see it. The pool has 2 water slides that you can race, a standard diving board and deep end and the main pool is large enough to leave lane lines in for 3 lanes and still have a good bit left for recreation. Theres also a smaller pool that is shallow and has a frog and turtle for smaller children to play on. The lifeguards were alert and attentive and professional. The staff at the desk was helpful and friendly. It was a great experience.

I already updated this review months ago, I dont understand why it still showed as negative!? Anyhow, the issue was resolved, thank you very much! :)Original review:I went to the pool yesterday for the first time since I moved here. Love the cleanliness, the patrons, the whole thing but the water was intolerably cold. I couldnt swim for more than 15 minutes as my muscles tensed up and my ears hurt from the icy temperature. Its a shame as the place and staff are very nice.

Great programs, great facilities and great staff - It is a great place! Wide variety of activities - indoor and outdoor, multiple facilities (clean & modern/updated), offer a wide variety of classes and programs for all age groups. Plus, facilities and many programs are available all year (every season is covered). WiFi, clean, ample parking, easy access in person and online, knowledgeable and friendly staff, plus AMAZINGLY affordable - even for non-residents. Fun for all ages![Updated - our household (family) recently became complete pass members - for less than it would cost for an individual membership at many of the other options available in our area....so I wanted to add a great deal to the list of what makes this place great!]

I know this text will fall on deaf ears, but I want my perspective to be aired before the levy goes to a vote on May 8th over increasing the funds to the rec center. I hope you can empathize with my story, being someone who has spent a great deal of time at the facility. Ive enjoyed a diverse breadth of activities over the years, however, the allure of the place has faded and I’m left with dissatisfaction with the entire facility’s management and the subsequent culture that manifested from the top down..The recent actions at the rec center I disagree with include: the addition of advertising in Woodland Lights without a decrease in the price of admission, allowing Dayton Ballet to practice at Rec West without a discount on tickets for Township residents, reduction of pool hours on Friday for movie night without letting pass holder’s know, removal of Employee of the Month plaques out of the hall leading to the administrative offices in order to put them out of sight in the human resources area, removal of the pictures of the recreational teams from the main hall, spending on superficial things such as big screen tvs, new coats of paint, and a double sided slide that requires another employee present at the top without increasing pool hours. The rec center has a very small workout room, limited hours on availability for the pool, and a lack of opportune times to go there. The first part of the levy advertising on the WTRC website speaks to “Funds the township’s expansion of services for senior adults” which right away let’s you know who the primary demographic the rec caters to and historically are most likely to vote on issue 16. I have seen the same people there day in, day out yet the rec center seems indisposed to change and expand its services towards all 56,000+ residents in the Washington Township. The fact that one has to sign their name in order to make a suggestion or comment speaks to the reality that the rec would rather know who the information is coming from rather than what the idea is.I’ve always wondered why there are so few people there until I discovered LA Fitness down the road. The place is open 7 days a week 5 - 11pm and has a pool half the size of the recs and a workout facility that trumps anything the rec can hope to aspire to. The pool is open as long as the facility. The admission price per year is actually better than the recs when you consider the hours it is open. The Recreation Levy talks about how little the Township spends per capita, but if you understand that per capita takes into account the number of people, the Township is actually overpaying. It’s laughable that the graph includes affluent areas near Columbus without considering how large the Township is and the affluence of its own population. If you want to be comparable when it comes to recreation centers, Vandalia’s Recreation Center is not only new, but also available for longer hours for all the activities it offers and the area contains 15,000 residents from the 2010 census. The availability includes the weekends when people have the most time for leisure activities. If none of this information makes you think twice about passing a levy giving more money to the rec center here in the Washington Township then perhaps I should explain that the administrator of the rec makes $85K a year as of 2016. The senior recreation supervisor makes $74K, and the township administrator of Washington Township makes over $150K a year. All this data from the Dayton Daily New’s I-Team Payroll Project. This amount of money spent on administrative expense is ridiculous given how little effort these people make at improving the areas they reside in and seeking feedback from the populous. So I ask anyone reading this to understand that the role of government and the services is not what you can do for them, but what they can do for you. This levy should not pass without first trying to maximize the efficiency of the rec’s services and take an account for the activities its administrators conduct on a day to day basis to justify expense.

I told the main lady at the rec center that my daughter knows how to swim so all they needed to do was test her and move her into the next class. That lady just stared at me like I was stupid and wouldnt even consider giving me my money back! Lesson learned - do not sign for lessons at the rec center - its a complete wreck!!
