Wonderful place to visit and explore on campus. As a student, I find myself searching for meaningful distractions all the time and I have enjoyed the museum as my home during those times. My only wish is that there be more interactive features for kids and adults since that seems to be an issue with people visiting (people keep trying to touch things even though that is prohibited). Love the staff and the atmosphere. Would go again.
Our first time here and what a wonderful experience. Everyone was so kind and hey it was a free exhibit. They rotate their art out, I believe they said, every three months. So theres always something to see. Parking is by a $10 for a 2 hour pass or coin machines where 25 cents gets you 10 minutes. Overall a fantastic place to visit.
Friendly staff, some great exhibits and great price.
Took them long enough to build this place but now that its up and running definitely a great museum. Worth a visit if youre in Davis and showcases some wide ranging art pieces. Also great for current students if youre tired of looking at the upside down heads on campus all day.
This beautiful, well designed modern art museum is on the Davis campus. The opening reception of the new show was fun. There was a large area set up outside for kids to make things and explore their creativity. Food, desserts, and drinks, in the form of flavored water, was available. A musician provided entertainment. And the art exhibits were extensive and informational. Its always enlightening to see a show here because its something you dont see anywhere else.
Super spacious and welcoming environment. The art museum is free for the public and honestly was very fun to look at the different art pieces that was offered at the museum. There’s no photography allowed.
As always, one of the best contemporary art museums I have ever been to. The staff are incredibly helpful and kind. The exhibits are always good; I especially liked the clay pot exhibit (I don’t remember the name of the artist, though).
The Kaltenbach exhibit (opening today) was a refreshing look at this conceptual artist turned traditionalist. The exhibit spans from the late 60s to now. Since Ive only experienced his recent work, it was good to see/understand his earlier conceptual period...it provided new insight into his more recent pieces- the docents and staff were very friendly and wanted to help you get immersed into the exhibit. The museum itself is surprisingly first rate. All in all (docents/staff, exhibit presentation, and the museum itself), this UC Davis museum gave me a great, thoughtful experience...wish I could have stayed longer today to actually meet Stephen Kaltenback!
Check it out. Laid back atmosphere, no pretense. Kids activities every weekend from 2-4.
Beautiful space, nice exhibit currently being displayed, friendly staff.Free lockers to use to store personal items while browsing museum.Free admission. Enjoyed the visit.
Great space. I heard a writer (Linda Sue Park) speak here.
Great art show. The speaker was okay. Took time for that part to start.
Open, airy. Staff are...well, there are a LOT of staff. Always a couple exhibits of contemporary art by California artists.
Nice new clean gallery. They also have community projects weekly
This museum is wonderful! I especially love the new era installation
Situated on the UC Davis campus, just off Highway 80, the Minetti Shrem museum is a stylish oasis. And its always free to enter, which I appreciate.I enjoyed the approach and easy parking, the big gong is fun and resonant, the entry way is dramatic, and the museum is welcoming, stylish, and feels good. The museum itself, as well as its artistic contents, provokes thought, just as any good art should. The museum is well worth stopping into and then wander around the campus for a while...
Ive only seen 2 exhibits so far, but they were well curated. Im interested in whats next. There is free admission, which is always nice. The staff was friendly, but not over-bearing. A good experience overall.
Excellent museum, with space for classes and talks.
Very educational! Excellent guides (students)
A lot of nice modern art with introspective pieces.
A great little art gallery/museum with some stylish architectural features - lovely sweeping roof/front porch, glass-walled inside courtyard, artists studio.Recently saw the Thiebaud exhibition there. Well worth seeing! No sign of any place to have a coffee/cake, but maybe I havent explored enough. Parking is easy - very accessible and FREE!
Nice space. Nice size. Beautiful entry. Only complaint: this is on a college campus and they dont allow visitors wearing backpacks (??). They provide free locker to store but the lockers are too tiny to accommodate. Annoying rules but otherwise decent visit, currently underutilized but hopefully in the future....
Free art museum with cute art studio workshops and anniversary celebrations! Ive seen several amazing art exhibits shown in the gallery last year. Hopefully I can visit more often this year!
Beautifully designed facility. I love that its free to the public. The wishing tree feature is my favorite part. If you love to take pictures and although photography is allowed here, beware of the No Photography labels that are sometimes unnoticeable around the installations. Great place to spend an hour or two looking at art, whether for a quick day trip or date.
Amazing, worth taking the time to see. Love the simple design with its captivating art.
Highly recommended. This great modern art museum is FREE, and has wonderful exhibitions of California art. They have a lot of works by the incomparable Wayne Thiebaud. The architecture is impressive as well.
Beautiful design inside and outside. Check it out if you have time.
Decent museum. Basically a place with walls to hang art. Nice but not super fantastic. Was excited about the giant gong outside but it sounded dull
Nice museum and oddly some of the best damn coffee Ive had in a long time.
I like the museum but the art exhibit was just OK.
Im a guest. And Id say this place was quite educational and very entertaining
Nice and helpful staff...unique exhibits that show the critical role UC Davis progressive art dependent has played... free to the public...Also good place to relax...
Really well designed and aesthetically developed. Exhibits can be hit or miss but the workspace is great and the curators/staff are informative and friendly
With always changing exhibits and free activities on the weekends, this is a great place to spend time with friends!
Small space but well-curated. Most of the docents are college students from UC Davis and are very happy to answer questions that you might have. The galleries are well maintained, like a slice of an art museum you might find in a larger city.
Super interesting spot. Free. People are super helpful.
Cool displays and friendly staff
Wow I took my parents here too see the display and they loved it, lots of interesting people too, would come again!
The building is beautiful and unique. You almost need to touch the concrete walls to believe theyre actually concrete! The interior is well designed as well. On my last visit, the exhibit was not particularly interesting,. It the museum is free and they have no permenant collection that Im aware of. So visit once a season and see whats in there!
Interesting architecture and awe inspiring exhibition at the time..
O.M.G. this place is amazing. They have a walk in art studio where you can make your own crafts. The perfect place to destress for university students! In addition, they have a big gallery where you can indulge yourself in the art you like.Various coffee drinks and other beverages are provided at a small charge.Come visit it before you graduate from UC Davis!!
Good place for pictures.
Fun, Interesting and free!
Beautiful building, but even if you purchase a valid parking permit, the meter-maid may still issue a parking ticket hoping to collect. Be sure to keep your parking permit so you can protest!
Good architecture, nice art. The chairs are a bit wonky, though.
Gist of all there is $0 admission fee. I saw a most re.arable show there 2 weeks ago of Susan Swartz. Keep an eye out on the upcoming shows.
Seemed like a nice museum. Wayne Thiebaud exhibit was especially nice.
One of the three or four best museums in the Bay Area
Beautifully designed museum with contemporary shows with work from UC Davis students as well as their private collection and guest artists. Ive been to a couple receptions there as well and they usually have interdisciplinary things such as music from the music department and poetry readings, etc.
The studio was fun to attend, but the exhibit was somewhat scanty
I felt at peace here.
Beautiful museum and great art making opportunities in the art studio.
I drove to Davis from SF today July 1, 2017 from SF after checking the website for hours open. It read open 11AM-5PM however, on arrival I learned it is closed July 1-Sept17. You need to UPDATE your WEBSITE!
Great Gallery/Museum. Loved loved the Thiebaud Show!!
The building is so beautiful, I cant wait for it to open on November 13!
Small, but enjoyed the Wayne T exhibit.
Lovely boutique museum focused on work coming out of UC Davis.
