Nice theater, nice play... I found The Canadians good, and Id say great if they didnt use expletives a lot near the start and end, mostly, of the play. (I cant see Canadians from a small town in Manitoba to be that seasoned on expletives so much... Toronto, maybe.)We were in the Argos theater there, the small one, so you didnt need binoculars to see the actors well.(If anyone knows how to contact the guy playing the shy guy in the play, send me his info, please... Hes gorgeous!)

Got to enjoy a presentation of A Christmas Carol starring Hal Landon as Scrooge in his 40th straight year in the starring role. There were some minor new twists to make it slightly different from previous years, but have no fear, Hal hit the top hat trick again. Bring your red scarf.

South Coast Repertory consistently puts on insightful, challenging, and humorous plays. We started going consistently over the past several years and have loved our time at the theater. They get skillful actors. It ends up being an immersive experience once you sit down and turn off your cellphone.

An excellent concert hall for any kind of performance you want to see. Gives you a very wide-open feeling, and the seats are comfortable as well. For a guy that is six-foot-five, there is also plenty of legroom no matter where you are in the theater. No matter what show comes through town, I would always recommend using this venue

I love this dang theather. I was impressed to see how fancy it was and I was suprised that it was very well kept. The actors were great and I had a good chuckle here and there. I think this place is absolutely fantastic and would highly reccomend it to anyone who likes live entertainment. This is my first time at a theather and I just love how good it is. Though I have 1 question for you South Coast peeps, How much do these people get paid?

Foul language is no place in a respectable theatre. It is not only repulsive, but diminishes the message of the play. I am referring of course to the latest play by Qui Nguyen, Poor Yella Rednecks. I was looking hard for a lofty or uplifting message as was described in Kimberly Golburns article. It is not progressive or modern or uniting humans. I felt attacked and belittled as an American (I am not White). Perhaps a play like this will find a place in Vietnam. As far as I recall, I left Vietgone before the end. However, the acting was good and the choreography was smart. The play by the three Hispanics found too many faults and racism in the American society. If America is so racist, why stay here? I assume in their home countries life is so much better. I left in the intermission.I prefer the good old plays of years ago.

We were incredibly disappointed with our experience yesterday at South Coast Rep. My parents (season ticket holders for 25+ years) purchased A Christmas Carol tickets over the phone for the whole family, including my two kids age 6 and 4.5. No one on the phone stated there was an age restriction for the show, even when my mother informed them that the two kids tickets we were purchasing were for a four and a six-year old. Imagine our incredible disappointment when we arrived with the family and were turned away at the door.Had they been kind, empathetic or the slightest bit apologetic, we would have been disappointed but understanding. However, the House Manager David Nguyen was beyond rude to us. He clearly did not care about our plight and shouted, I wont make exceptions for you or anyone else! That was when my daughter started crying. When we asked him if they would refund our money, his curt reply was, I dont know- that is not my department. One would think that a person with manager in his title would be well-versed in customer service, particularly when the venue made the mistake in the first place by selling us tickets even though they were told the ages of our children. Sadly, this manager was rude, surly, inappropriate and he had a complete lack of empathy or customer service. They never once said they were sorry. We left with two crying children in tow because they denied us admittance to a childrens play. My season ticket holder parents are cancelling their tickets and we are looking into supporting other venues. SCR should be totally ashamed of themselves. And their uncaring, ill-mannered manager, David Nguyen should get some serious customer service skills training. We will not be back.

I been attending and photographing the plays at South Coast Repertory Theater since the mid 80s, and though Ive enjoyed plays at various venues throughout Southern CA (as well as New York and London), none compare to the remarkable productions of SCR. For ambiance, intimacy, comfort, superior acting, acoustics, play selection, and aesthetic excellence to the nth degree, Ill take South Coast Rep over any other every time.

We attended last nights performance of Chinglish (2/21/2013). We sat in Row F, seats 15 & 17. The performance was good - from what I could hear of it. This was the first performance I have been where the actors did not have a mic or audio system of some type. When the actors turned their backs to us, it was difficult and sometimes impossible to understand what they were saying, especially when they spoke in hushed tones. Even high school plays have an audio system or microphone for the performers. I was very, very disappointed that last nights performers did not. I felt sorry for the audience in the back rows.
