I grew up in this amazing part of Ohio and am fortunate to be able to get back to it several times a week. There is such a vast amount of areas that Woodberry covers and the best part is that most is pristine wilderness. Teaming with almost every species of wildlife that Ohio offers, Woodberry is a great place to Hike, Fish, Camp, and Hunt. Do not miss an opportunity to enjoy one of the best wildlife reserves in the United States.....
Beautiful area..not to happy How about the fact that my son had set up his blind in an area where he wanted to hunt which is public property...Sadly I guess he was too trusting of other hunters but he left the blind and we came back a week later and somebody stole it along with a seat I guess they didn’t have enough arms because they left one seat behind have to teach my son you cannot trust anybody
Nice place to hunt not a lot of deer. Nothing like it used to be but its outside
Woodbury is a great place to just drive through, watch the birds, fish, hunt ect. Or just to get away and run endless dirt roads.
Severely over hunted unless your willing to go miles in. Beautiful area but very pressured
Well it could be better if they would keep the weeds and brush cut down around the ponds so you could fish
We camped at Woodbury only once, several years ago. We had a fun time fishing then later enjoyed a nice quiet meal over a campfire. We settled in our tent for a peaceful night’s sleep. About 10pm two car loads of drunken adults and screaming kids pulled in next to a camper a few sites from us. The arguments between the adults got louder, the kids were running around yelling. After someone shouted “who’s going for a beer run”, we packed up and left. It was nearly 2am. We’ve never been back. Nor will we. Too long of a drive to chance a spoiled weekend.
Very nice place to have all your outdoor activitys at. love it
Always a pleasure to enjoy there
Love hunting there
Saw deer no horns let em walk
Love the scenery
Not very detailed maps or signs to navigate the area.
Beautiful place!
Calm peaceful place. Clean and pretty views
Great place for a lot of outdoor activities. They have a shooting range as well as lots of ponds. These ponds are great for fishing.
We started out off of township rd 400. Walked back and down the hill a bit, once we had some flat land looking over the woods bottom we set up our blind, chairs, unloaded blabkets, food, and began our wait. By this time its about 645-7 am. Started to flurry, heard some branches snapping through the day, but no luck. 1130, we packed up and went into town for lunch at Warsaw Ohio, the same town we are camping in, which is only 5 miles from the wildlife area to hunt. After lunch it was time to head out again, by 2pm we went to a different location still on township rd 400. This location was located on the corner of a field uphill sitting on top of the woods in closed with a pond down bellow. Set up the blind with our backs facing the brush so we could see the two paths that go into the field clearly. Wait begins. We heard a lot more action around us, about 5pm we heard a branch snap right behind our blind. Quietly and carefully we peaked out the wide window and seen a large doe standing right behind us, with no shot for us to try and make. Got our guns ready, one on both sides of the window, still with no safe shot, we had to let her walk. Packed up about 545pm temps at 30 degrees and went back to camp.Day 3 second morning of the hunt we decided to hunt off of township rd 70 before reaching TR 403. It was an uphill hike, we got settled in, not even an hour after we heard some gun shots, after 2 hours of not seeing anything we decided to move around by foot. Needless to say, we thought the location was around a funnel, but turned out to be thick brush and a lot of walking to make it around the huge circle. During the hike, we lost the muzzloder stick. It must have got caught or stuck and fell out with out us even noticing. After an hour hike, many thorns and rips, we made it back to the blind, packed up and headed out. We strongly suggest not this location due to the thick brush, however thats how we learn by exploring a new area.Night 2, we decided to scout loctions off of 17 near a campground that a local suggested. My husband set up his tree stand while I took off about 100 yards to the right of him and set my blind up. We were ready to go at 230pm for the night hunt.Plenty of nearby shots were fired, the location was a great spot. During the hunt we seen more squirrels then anything until about 515, to my right I heard a loud blow noise from a deer. Quietly peaked out my blind, seen it 20 yards to my right, but couldnt get a good shot since it was getting dark and she was standing behind two trees. Then she took off like something spooked her. 530 the husband showed up to help pack me up, Im guessing she heard him coming.Overall the location was great, many opportunities in that area. Even if four other trucks are parking by you, plenty of room to spread out and be plenty apart in a safe respect.Last morning of the hunt, its 430am 30 degrees out. Made some eggs and toast to hold off until lunch. Heading back to the same location as Last night however going to hunt the funnel off to the left of where I was yesterday.Got everything all set up, now its waiting time. No movement much and its 8am. No shots nearby either. 10am, still no movement or luck. Time to head out back to camp.Packing up camp, no deer shot this trip, however the enviroment, lands and area was beautiful and we plan to return yearly. Next year we plan to camp for free by our favorite hunting location off of 17. Plenty of hunters were camping their and seem to be all keeping each other company and talking up game. I highly recommend this area for advanced and new hunters like myself!
Nice little hidden away spot to catch some decent fish. Definitely recommend taking a kayak to fish out of the seaweed.
Tried my new kayak out in the pond since the river is high. Always good to get back to nature!
First time hunting Ohio. The Woodbury Wildlife Area is a very scenic place to visit and the snow made it that much more picturesque. I enjoyed my visit immensely.
Lots of wildlife fishing ponds great hunting an hiking
Well run place
Beautiful area, Glad there will ALWAYS be a forever home for the Wildlife
Excellent quiet area for hunting, fishing and under used shooting range.
This is a good place to camp and hunt . They also have a shooting range. On a state route.
This is a great place for anyone who enjoys the outdoors.
The lake is absolutely beautiful. The forest is pretty dense and full of squirrel. Not a hot spot for deer but the people who stay there are usually super friendly. Its a nice relaxing place to hunt or fish.
Largest public hunting area in Ohio
Did not expect a wet land on top of a hilly area. Was hoping for pine trees and boulders, got scrub and ponds. Lots of birds. Lots of gun shots from the range. Area gave me a creepy feeling, like this is where the bodies are dumped. Pretty sure I heard banjos.
Beautiful! is the only word to describe my experience.
Very peaceful and happy places to get back with nature
Not as good as it was years ago
Food sucked and workers yelled the whole time! Manager was nice and gave me my meal free . We was in there e for a hour and a half.

Thank you for opening up the old campgrounds its been a long time coming
I have been hunting woodbury for 30 years and could always cut firewood that was down .now we are told we can no longer cut downed wood or even pick up sticks for a fire if we do we get a ticket.when I called to ask why I got the runaround .was told they had had trouble about this.also was told to bring my own wood.I thought you could not move wood to another area.so the wood can lay there and rot .also there is a story going around that they may close woodbury campground.if they do no one I know will go there to hunt.what is up with all this? Thanks,Gary Pauley

Recently ODNR closed the campsites at woodbury. Their reasons dont add up. Majority of campers demonstrated true respect in keeping the area clean and did not cause trouble. Now hunting season rolls around. .. cant wait to see how this week goes...SAVE WOODBURY CAMPSITE-fb
