Just a blast, and absolutely free. Remember that, because its not very large. But the exhibit itself is VERY impressive, with some truly memorable pieces and fossils. With an excellent array of gulf coast marine fossils, this is really a neat place to take the kiddos. Stick around for a show at the planetarium, too!

Recently moved here and didnt even know they had a museum. We went there expecting to have a mediocre experience. There is much more there than i could have possibly anticipated. Highly recommended.

Eclectic collections and its free. Kids love it, just enough of one topic and zip, if to dinosaurs, then shells. Helpful docents, then an art gallery. Go to Sea Center next for free.

The staff and volunteers are great. We liked this place better than the HMNS for younger kiddos because its much, much less overwhelming. We were able to spend just 1.5 hours (and see basically everything) but still get home in time for lunch and nap. Perfect outing for our 1-5 year olds. Definitely recommend!

This is a free museum with a wonderful collection of shells and fascinating exhibits. Not limited to the Gulf of Mexico, the large shell collection has featured exhibits along with dozens of drawers full of additional specimens. They have butterflies, fossils, minerals, mammals, birds, and other artifacts as well. There are numerous kids activities. Everything is pretty self-guided and very relaxed. The gift shop is small but has some very cool stuff that is VERY affordable. They do not take credit cards, so bring some cash. Also on display when we visited were some of the greatest dioramas I have seen. Pair this with a trip to see live critters at Sea Center Texas and you have a really fun (FREE) day!

It is a nice little free museum with lots of things in it. My wife and I cant wait to bring our little one next time. There is quite a bit to do in it. For one thing, it has one of the best shell collections i have ever seen. Second, take a picture by the dimetrodon statue, it is way cool. Finally, check out the flourescent rocks behind the curtain, you wont be disappointed. This is a nice, old school museum with not a lot of glitz and glamour but has a lot of heart. This museum is very reminiscent of museums of past, where you just went to learn. The gift shop is very affordable and has things from ornaments and necklaces to plastic toy animals. It was very nice neat interesting place i will definetly be back.
