Just a little ways away, nice little day trip to see the sights. The historical and cultural importance of sites like these cant really be put into words. States need to provide more funding to keep these going.

This was initially a side trip on our way home from visiting Columbus, but it became a favourite spot and we are looking forward to our next visit! The museum was fantastic, my son enjoyed their Junior Ranger activities, and the site was amazing! It was very hot and we had to get home so we could not explore the trails or related sites, but hope to make a trip for that purpose!

Free! Unfortunately the museum and building are closed. I was met by a ranger standing in a doorway answering questions and distributing literature. Most of the mounds here have been rebuilt as they were worn down by farmers and a WWII Camp Sherman. The mounds are not huge but the site is interesting to walk around.

Great stop through Ohio. The park rangers were really nice, but it’s located next to a prison so as you walk through the mounds you might hear a klaxon. Don’t worry though as there probably isn’t a breakout. There was a small gift shop, lots of sites to walk around, a movie, and a museum with 2000 year old artifacts.

This is an amazing place! I can see how this a National Historic Park. The history of this place is incredible, and theres lots of artifacts from Hopewell People displayed here. Seeing the mounds is something else, and when I was walking around I kept thinking about what it mightve felt like living as these people did.

I visited the center after 9 hours of driving cross-country. My goal was just to sleep in their parking lot. They allowed me to do that with absolutely no disturbance, and when I get out of my car to stretch I heard a deer clumping around in the woods. That is my complete extent of awareness of this place

This Native site is an important one for Eastern North America. The mounds are beautiful and we should really know more about them than we do. It is really sad that the US Government built a military base on top of them during WWI.

This is a very interesting place. There are a bunch of local mounds right next to the visitor center that are very interesting to walk around and see. The visitor center itself has a very interesting Museum attached to it, and it has bathrooms if you need those. Everything is very well maintained the field with the mounds is mowed and kept clean. The staff at The Visitor Center seems to be very friendly, and they were very helpful and explaining everything that you were looking at. The gift shop actually has quite a few very interesting souvenirs if you want to buy them too.

Lovely place. Beautiful museum. The walk is easy and pleasant. Well kept and the river close by. Nice for quiet meditation. Dogs are welcome on a leash. Quite a bit can be seen in an hour but plenty to keep one occupied for 2-3 easily. Would make a good picnic site with tables and benches scattered around.

Some times these Culture stops can be incredibly boring. However, this one was surprisingly fun and informative. Watch the movie before going out to the Earthworks. It really makes it worth exploring. The Park Rangers are very helpful and ready to assist. As we left, the conversation had totally changed from the mundane everyday stuff to how cool this experience was and what we learned about the Hopewell Culture.

The museum is full of astounding finds from the Hopewell culture which shows how much they traded and the skill of their artists. It is a great insight into the lives of those who were here before us. The mound ground itself is well upkept and impressive in its scope and size; its almost hard to really get an understanding of how large the complex is.

Wonderful place to learn about Ohios ancient heritage. The museum is cool and full of neat artifacts. The 20 minute intro movie is one of the best Ive seen at the National Parks. The rangers are always friendly and happy to answer any questions. The nature walk through the woods, by the river, and through the mounds is very peaceful and there are very informative signs around to give you a better idea of how the people of Ohio lived 2,000 years ago.Dont forget about the other sites that make up the park. Each are unique and worth a visit. Most are within a 15 minute drive of the visitor center at Mound City.

Small NPS site. Great junior ranger program (swag for the kiddos) and very friendly and helpful rangers.Theres a small area with actual artifacts recovered from some of the area and the 17 minute video helps you understand the Hopewell. I wish the video had gone a little into how the significance of the area was recognized (much of the area has been farmed and built over). But a nice side stop on our drive to another NPS Park.

A Park Ranger leads a guided tour of the Park each morning at 10:00 am. If you opt to wander the grounds on your own, there are several information plaques telling about the construction and purpose of the different mounds. Beyond the mound wall perimeter, there is a short trail through a wooded area, and a pathway going down to and along the Scioto River. There are several benches to sit, relax and ponder; there are a few picnic tables if you care to bring a snack or lunch.

This is a cite rich with history thats easy to overlook. My wife and I started with the visitors center where we met with a U.S. National Park Ranger who gave us a wonderful and enthusiastic overview. We also watched the 18 minute video. Then after an enjoyable walk around the area, we returned to the visitors center and chatted with a newly assigned Ranger. He gave us an additional perspective of the area, including information about an active dig where we could observe archaeologists in action. How much you enjoy your visit here will greatly depend on your effort to uncover the history.
