This place is a historic giant! If youre looking for a place to have a killer party or a fabulous wedding look no further. Very decadent and fantastic views of lake Michigan from multiple rooms. You also have access to the lake. Imagine your wedding starting near the lake and finish the reception in a magnificent room viewing that same lake were you said I do! The lobby is spectacular and ginormous! They also have golfing not that this has anything to do with the facility itself. I will post pictures at a later date. This is the wedding facility for the Obamas!

Beautiful place. My fiancé and I went here today and walked along the trail, sat on the ocean rocks to view ocean up close, we sat on a bench to view the pond and walked along the beach barefoot and it was so romantic and beautiful.

Nice place to congregate and do outdoor activities with family and friends

Great beach. Nice shallow water are so it is great for kids. Chicago day camps use it frequently so you can get a large group of kids on a weekday but that adds to the fun.

Beautiful lakeside course in the fall.

My first time there it was awesome, and watching the waves roll in from the lake Michigan was beautiful! God is amazing in all His splendor!

Nice place to visit all year round but especially during this covid season. The place is peaceful. Very well kept buildings.

Before our event it has been quite awhile since we were last there. I was quickly reminded of the breath taking beauty.

I’ve lived in Chicago my entire life and just ventured to this gem last weekend. I was taken aback by the majesty of the entryway, the proximity to Lake Michigan crashing to the shore, the wildlife sanctuary, it was beautiful. This was a poetic stroll and friends I was just dropping my daughter off at Golf Camp!! Yup, it’s also a public golf course. Highly recommend this location for strolling, golfing, or just a nature photo shoot. The actual building would make a magnificent backdrop for a wedding. The interior was a scene from The Great Gatsby.

Great hidden beach spot on the south end of Lake Shore Drive. Beach is tucked behind 9 hole golf course. Metered city parking but you can walk in for free if near by. Besides the sand, there is a large grass area with picnic benches and grilling spots. Also has public restrooms with showers and an adjacent nature walk.

Lots of clean green space and a great beach , nature walk and an amazing indoor huge sitting area with historic chandeliers. all FREE and safe.

I learned how to play golf here about 12 years ago. Im still learning. Cant beat the price, the service, and the views. Its much tougher than its official rating. Hole two is a long long par 4.

Although the club is close for now, the scenic view of the lake is beautiful!

This place is historic and beautiful. The architecture alone is something to marvel at. Walking in you can imagine the old timey galas that took place here. Currently it is used for a variety of events. Rooms can be rented out for private events and decorated to suit your event. Catering can be brought in, if it is from the city of Chicagos approved list. The backyard of the cultural center is lake Michigan! All of this is park district property and free for anyone to enjoy. There is also golf here. Parking however is not free anymore. There are paid meter boxes.

Its a beautiful place, and I sis a project on it.If you ever visit South Shore neighborhood dont hesitate to make a stop here.

Beach was actually closed but the lifeguard was courteous and friendly and he he informed us that we couldnt use the beach because we didnt want to endanger the people with the spread of the virus. But we still had fun in the open space the outdoors walking along the golf course.

Beautiful historic wedding venue! Ceiling moldings, black & white floor tiles, floor to ceiling windows ... gorgeous.

Beautiful place. Well maintenance up keep. The staff were hospitable and professional. Parking could be better. As big as this place is, there is not enough parking to accommodate a big crowd. And as much as you pay to rent the facility I dont understand why there is meter parking , parking accommodations would make this a plus.

Attended a fundraiser for the Dusable Museum. It was a 5-star event for worthy cause. The facility is right smack on the lakefront and beautiful. It has all the architectural details with 30 foot soaring ceilings, massive windows with a lake view from every vantage point. It is well maintained and organized and could comfortably support any affair or event. Simply beautiful.

Gorgeous! Incredible for events or just a stroll. Small cafe open for brunch on the weekends.

Great place to play golf 18holes...!!!

Fascinating location with a lot of beauty, right on the lake. The solarium was particularly cool. Id love to come here one day for an event and get a chance to explore more than the ground floor.

Finally went around the back to the nature sanctuary for the amazing view back north towards downtown and the city. Great spot to also look for beautiful birds.

Its nice over here chill spot. One have the lake the golf course. Nice walking and biking areas. Nice location for picnics, family reunions, taking your partner out and more. The location is by buses, Metra train, and apartments. Little bit of more diversity would not hurt this neighborhood.

An amazing find. Happened to stumble upon this gem quite by chance as a play I was interested in was to be staged here. The building is magnificant. Step out and onto an almost private beach and a lovely nature trail that affords a clear view of the city skyline

Grounds and building that probably have seen better years but are still pretty darn good. Great place to bring the family for beach or park. I dont know much about the programming, which may change my rating. Wife has visited a few events, though, and seemed to enjoy herself.

If you have lived in Chicago then you must go here . The ballrooms are spectacular. The golf course perfectly manicured. Really an institution unto itself.

Gorgeous, historic venue. Saw the Civic Orchestra here and the sound was magnificent. For best seating, plan to arrive at least a half hour early ... And even earlier, to park on site in the first lot (which exits much earlier). Coming out of the NE lot after the show is SO slow (nearly 40 min) that I may take the bus next time.

Very Historic. It transformed me into another time and place. It needs a little TLC though. I noticed in all the chandeliers throughout the place, that there were lightbulbs that were out. Also in the main room, there were wooden tiles missing from the top of the beautiful ceiling. Those little details go a long way in the preservation of the place. The main entrance had a beautiful Christmas tree, but it wasnt on. We had over 500+ ppl in attendance that day. First impressions are important.

I want to a Budget Town Hall meeting hosted by the Mayor there. It has various spaces to entertain and a fantastic view of the river if you are interested in having a fancy event there. Lots of parking although extended parking was on meter.

This was my first time on a golf course. A 9-hole golf course, this is a very pretty place off of Lake Michigan. The breeze from off the water id everything. Although I wasnt playing, I enjoyed the beautiful natural setting. The trees were almost in full bloom, and so beautiful. The clubhouse is gorgeou, and is great place for any soiree. A jewel!

My favorite place in all of Chicago.First, the building is just gorgeous and filled with so much history! Previously a country club, it’s now home to all sorts of activities. I like to go in just to meander the halls and look at the incredibly ornate architecture. Plus there’s some Obama history on the 2nd floor :)Second, the beach: my favorite in the entire city. It’s often quiet when I’ve gone, and it has the best view of the skyline (view from the south is the best), feels tucked away and kinda hidden, and there’s walking paths to the south with all sorts of native plants.Plus the police horses are kept here in the stables.Definitely go here if you get the chance!!

I went here for my granddaughters kindergarten graduation ceremony and it was beautiful! The scenery and atmosphere was breathtaking! Im not sure if prices, but this could definitely be put on radar for weddings, upscale events, or dances. My phone died so I could not take pictures.

Love this grand venue located in South Shore on the beautiful lakefront. Have attended many community events here and always enjoy being in this space. Not the best photo, but you get the idea!

Theres a beach with lifeguards ..Sometimes. You can walk along the lake. Theres a area for lawn chairs and grilling.Good place to relax. Down side is the meters to park.

Hello l want to a concert 8/18/2019 to see Ribbon thick. The concert was great. Your workers are rude one young girl with a rag on her head does not know how to respect people. I have never been here before. Maybe you should have them take some classes on how to talk, how to explain things when adults ask question. She has a nasty attitude...

Attended a vendor fair there today. Beautiful surroundings. I hope to get the chance to visit again. Makes me wish I knew how to golf.

Nice place. We went to a concert put on by the grant park music festival. A little older but very nice lake front view.

The ground of South Shore Cultural Center are beautiful in the summer and the beach is a sight ro behold. Clean, fresh, lovely!

Every visit, every time, the splendor and beauty of this place never disappoints. While sitting in a conference room, I could see people in lake Michigan, playing in the water. It was so refreshing and wonderful.

Hadnt attended anything at the Center in over 20 years. Still beautiful, accessible. However, have to pay for parking now...

I used to pass by this place and thought about getting married in such a beautiful place, well I wasnt the one getting married yesterday but the wedding I witnessed was beautiful. This is the perfect place for a wedding and Im so grateful to have witnessed such a blessed event

I remember when it was call south shore country club, Its was wonderful then and now. Great beach, good food, excellent music, marvelous gulf course.

Beautiful place.

The inside of the cultural center is so pretty! The cultural center is surrounded by golf courses and the beach. The women who give golf lessons to the special recreation summer camps always do a great job. They are very inviting and patient. The beach isn’t the best thing they have to offer, but for the most part in the summer it isn’t too crowded unless there are field trips from different camps taking place. It’s a very small beach but does have accessible bathrooms. Call days ahead to let lifeguard know if you will need help with a water wheelchair.

One of Chicagos best south side beach and events area. Parking is decent, ample picnic area, and of course the sandy beach everyone can enjoy!

Great space.

Very beautiful and expansive architecture. Nice and quiet inside; a lovely place to explore not to mention that there is a cute beach behind it. You may even be lucky to catch cop trainees practicing horse-back.Security is pretty tight here; dont be surprised if they ask you about your precise whereabouts or if they tell you to stop doing something (ex: eating.) It is a historic sight.

Its a hidden gem on the East Side with environmental and historical relevance.

One of those places that is unassuming from the outside , but is a place to enjoy the open space, the charming architecture and feel the history of the place. The place has elegance and Grace, but you also notice how some parts feel old. Like the older carpet, the older looking windows and doors.

The Golf Course is in poor shape due to planned conversion. The view is still Wonderful. The Center itself is well maintained.

Bathrooms need attention. Staff needs customer relations course. Personalities r lacking. Generally a clean & tidy drill need b put in place.

Beautiful location on the south lakefront, extravagant late 19th century interior design. Multiple event spaces, 9 hole golf course, beach,picnic area, gardens ,all open to the public. Do not miss this amazing public space.

I did not know Barak Obama had his wedding reception here! Its a great place, right at the Southshore!
