Such a wonderful time in a place that seems like a little bit of ‘nature heaven’ in the middle of chaos. This place is like the quiet in the middle of a storm. A hidden gem in the busy City Of Chicago.Loved being able to take a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday Chicago life. For a mere donation, you’re able to see beautiful rare flowers and other green growing things; all with very interesting names. On this trip the greenhouse was closed because of Covid-19, but the time it took for us to see all the sights seems like it went on for hours; I can only imagine.I found this place to be quite serene and enveloping. I found myself getting lost in the sights and often times pictured myself having an outdoor gathering in this lovely space. Apparently, this is also what the locals do. And the folks that live across the street, oh my, how lovely.I plan to return and visit when the greenhouse is open for tours. I saw a cactus and a few other trees that are almost scraping the A-frame of the greenhouse.

In partnership with the Art Institute of Chicago, the Garfield Park Conservatory & Gardens presents The Flowers of Monet.Inspired by Claude Monet’s paintings, horticulturists will bring his canvases to life with asters, dahlias, nasturtiums, rose standards, and many other blooms. A living wall inspired by the Water Lilies series will provide an unusual interpretation of his work. The Flowers of Monet is a special display in the Artist’s Garden and will feature key examples of the plant life that captured Monet’s imagination and inspired his vision and technique. The Flowers of Monet is seasonal exhibit that runs from late summer – fall. It will remain open as long as the weather permits.

Our visit to Garfield Park Conservatory was initially to see the Monets Garden show. But, we were quickly drawn in. The flowers and the descriptions of their connection to Monets art were captivating. We especially loved the carefully trained fruit trees, pruned to wrap around a fence - as well as the Fairytale Pumpkin, a species new to me. Cinderella and her fairy godmother would be proud! The intimacy of the space quickly drew us in - to the point that we became members as soon as we got home. We look forward to returning again especially once the indoor area opens once again.

Beautiful place in every season. Amazing that they allow this place to be free (suggested donation of $10/person). In times of COVID they are doing timed entry online and only outdoor exhibits but still worthwhile to see! What a gorgeous piece of scenery amidst the city.It was very easy to book online last minute, guests are very good at spacing out (and there’s lots of space to do so). Parking is free! And it’s right on the Green line if you’re taking CTA.It can get quite warm if you’re visiting on a hot day and there’s not much shade. Bring water!

Really wish I went a bit earlier in the year. (Went a few weeks into Fall so not as many plants were still out.) Although the plants are beautiful and interesting. It was a really cool experience and could see myself going back several times just to enjoy the space.Sad we werent able to go into the greenhouse due to Covid. They have some tropical plants in there that just look so neat. The Monet Garden is really neat as well. (Based on his own gardens in Europe that he painted.) Really beautiful flowers and could only imagine what itll look like in a few years when the plants grow in more.

The glass covered building was closed . We were restricted to the outside garden. Nice place to come down for an evening walk . They have a vegetable garden which is nice. Garden had peppers, tomatoes, carrots, key lime, beets and few other stuff. They are also looking to start a dwarf apple orchard. The area had pretty flowers and probably take 3 hours at the max if you also get to visit the glass building . Otherwise a max of 1.5 hours would be enough. Dont forget to make reservations before you go there - during these pandemic times. The entrance is free.

A nice place to bring your kids/family. You can bring some lunch with you & use the outside patio to sit down and eat. If you love plants, exotic plants, flowers, trees, palm trees, cute gold fish ponds, this is the place for you! Its right of the Green line stop. (conservatory /Central Park) Maybe a 100 feet from the platform.

I have visited the Chicago Botanic many times, but an event brought me to the Garfield Park Conservatory and I am so glad it did. This place has amazing flora inside and out. They have kids from the high school across the street that serve as docents who educated us on the many plants as we toured the facility. What an amazing program! I have a list of future events and hope to go back soon.

A beautiful way to spend an afternoon in downtown Chicago. There are several houses to wander through, each with its own theme to enjoy. The place is free, but they ask for a donation. My favorite was the fern house. The childrens space was a lot of fun too. All in all a very fun/enjoyable time spent at the conservatory.

Truly one of the gems of the west side. Now, during the pandemic, the greenhouses are closed to the public but the outside gardens are still open. There are lots of lovely pollinators too! During September (2020), they are doing an exhibit featuring flowers like what Monet had painted. Only $5 dollars and you can reserve online. Worth a look!

Built between 1890-1895 the conservatory was calleda paradise under glass and this description is perfectly fitting. We visited the conservatory in Feb. on a Monday at 1:00. It was wonderful to go inside a warm tropical jungle and escape the cold winter air! This was an ideal time to visit , as the free parking was ample and we shared the space with few people! The conservatory is also free, with a suggested donation box.The fern rooms entrance is flanked with two beautiful statues, and has waterfalls that become little creeks with stepping stone bridges. Keep your eyes open for turtles! We did not visit any of the exterior gardens since it was winter, however there was plenty to see in the interior rooms. If you have children there is even a room with a place structure for them to run around! There is a gift shop with snacks that happen to be closed on the day we visited.

This place is magical! I love coming here. I always thought that being placed in the seedy Garfield park would cause it to be a lesser place than it is. It’s seriously better than the Lincoln park conservatory to me. I’m really in love with coming here in the winter time because just seeing the greenery really does something for the psyche. Definitely would recommend coming here especially in the winter time. Everything about this place is so warm, inviting, and safe. Thanks!!

This is a world-class conservatory. It is expansive, and filled with lush greenery, fun plants, and huge palm trees, all while being indoors. It is open year-round, and it is a surreal place to be when outside it is snowy and cold, and inside it feels like Florida in the summer. While this conservatory is technically free as it is part of Chicago park district, donations are asked for. The childrens area is very good for little kids to hang out and play in. During the warmer months, the outside area is open, providing an even larger expanse of planting and gardening. I totally recommend this conservatory, and it is one of many hidden gems around the city of Chicago.

This place was completely mind blowing. It is very huge and filled with amazing wonders to explore. This place has many different sections of plants types and its specific environment. For example they had a cactus section which I personally thought was the coolest. They had plants from all over the world like Africa, Asia, Europe and much more. They also had endangered species of plants which is really cool that they are very thoughtful of protecting it. The place is also very spacious while it is filled with many amazing plants. Also if you are wondering if the area is safe or dangerous. I honestly can’t explain how safe this area is. This place has many nice people and there are kids having fun running around at the place. Going back to the topic. This place also has many kid friendly places like slides, seating areas, cool little walkways, and cool sculptures they can look at and explore. Another thing is that this place is filled with cool figurines if you can find them for example a dinosaur with army soldiers which is honestly pretty cool and creative. Also this place has lots of fish and turtles which is very adorable. Another thing this place is completely free to visit. You can just walk in look around and leave which very amazing and I am very happy for. This place also has an outside garden which is as cool as the outside one. Also near the end of the inside part there are old pictures from when this place was built. Like a little history story. But it is really cool and interesting.
